Woohoo! Staying at 9. I agree with you about the basketball schools. I can't imagine them signing off on a 2nd dead weight basketball program just to appease football. And I can't imagine the football schools threatening the nuclear option to add a cusa school.

Maybe.

But why was Oliver Luck talking about 9 conference football games sooner than 2014?

Correct me if I am wrong, but Marinatto has the authority to go to 10, right? That's already been approved.

Great. We get 3 more months of waiting around and listening to crazy talk from expansion candidates who debate their worth. Hopefully, this time will give the Big East football schools a chance to really think about what they want their conference landscape to look like. If this just leads to 'Nova joining in June, after promising to expand PPL to 25,000 I'm going to really perturbed. And I don't even have a dog in this race.

My condolences to ECU, UCF and Houston. You are all significantly more deserving of a BCS conference spot and the fact that you have to sit through this is astonishing. You all actually may be better off in CUSA, since the Big East must be absolutely batshit retarded to still be considering a school that was handed a golden ticket and after months of planning, still doesnt have a plan that is viable enough to be accepted outright.

Phillies have already told Nova "NO"...as the Phillies will not give them any dates in August/Sept/Oct...as the Phillies do not want a football team to tear up their field during the regular or post-season play.

Only chance for Nova to ever play a game in the Phillies baseball stadium would be "sometime in November"...well after a "delayed" World Series would be over.

Correct...as months ago, Big East Presidents approved a plan for (at least) 10 Big East Football Schools and AD's were told to start preparing for 9 conf games per season (as their non-conf games would move from 5 per year to just 3).

I have to think its more than just Pitt. It has to be at least half the 8 to be in the same boat to have enough momentum to delay this vote. Pitt is the only one to have an article in the paper about it.

Staying at 9 might be good for some of you guys but it would severely hurt our TV money so you cant have it both ways unless ESPN decides to dump a ton of money into a 9 team football conference, which i doubt they will.

Exactly. There's one candidate that has pulled ahead of the pack so maybe the football schools want that school as the 10th member and wants to sit at that for now. If that's the case I would be very pleased with that. There is still talk if going to 12 so maybe that will be later with Nova? Gives us time to look over the landscape for potential other members.

RE: Uh oh...Villanova's vote delayed
The conference already voted to go to 10 teams, so that plan is already in place and voted on. The same group put a stop to Nova being the 10th yesterday. I doubt they plan on backstepping on their announcement and still plan to go to 10. The 9/17 concept won't last IMO. I have to imagine the conference want all teams in or announced by the time the new tv contract is issued. Those in favor here of 9/17, are you thinking this setup for another year or so, or all the way through the next tv contract?

My thought now is, they will continue to pick the 10th this summer, give Nova over a year, not a couple of months to come up with a more solid plan, and announce 11 and 12 next summer in time to enter tv negotiations. I understand Pitt fans in particular liking the 9/17 setup to protect your schedule, but it has to be supported by all football members.....right now I can't see 8 games as enough to move forward for a longterm plan.

So Houston gets the invite now as 10th member and Nova has a shot to come in 2014 with maybe a FB only invite or a full member ??

Only thing I do not understand about this process is the length of time it takes. If Big East knows it wants to add UH then why wait until we get closer to the dealine for UH to let CUSA know it is leaving. I know CUSA has discussed every possible scenario and has schools on a short list to replace UH, UCF and even ECU if we go FB only invite. Be nice to get all this stuff over with so Big East can move on and if need be CUSA can start rebuilding yet again.

The only ones saying Houston is first in line are a bunch of fans that know nothing. I still wouldn't count Nova out as #10. They just have to move a couple of ducks first and get them in a row. Nothing the BE does or does not do would surprise me.

Yeah I know what you mean, but it is what it is. I would just like to know for sure if ECU is getting in or not so we can just be done with it. I'd like movement to start happening towards a new eastern non-AQ conference once all the crap ends, especially if C-USA gets made even weaker by the BE.

They know that Houston, UCF, ECU, Temple and pretty much all other non AQ schools will say yes in days time, and they already know where they stand with facilities, fanbase, etc. They had to provide Nova enough time and the "exclusive" window because they are inhouse and have a unique situation of having to come up with the full plan (facilities, fanbase, etc) The other schools already have that profile layed out.

Who knows if they told Nova make it quick, or take your time, we will be picking a 10th before you have a chance at 11 or 12....but keep working because there will be a 11 or 12......It will all work itself out in the next few weeks/months.

I'm tired of the false hope. We have been a candidate for the BE for 20 years and everytime they find a new team to add instead of us. I'd be happier if the BE just came out and said there is nothing ECU could ever do that would make us interested instead of every 5 or 10 years getting our hopes up and picking someone else instead.

I guess the football teams never really thought NOVA would say yes?

I think everyone can agree that an 18,500 seat SOCCER stadium doesn't exactly scream BIG TIME BCS FOOTBALL. And Nova doesn't have the $$$$$ to expand any stadium (from what I understand).

All I know is that there are two great candidates out there that already HAVE great 45,000+ seat stadiums BUILT & READY TO GO.

No need to wait for a study, for donors, or for naming rights....

Jackson State and Tennessee State or do you mean the BE might look outside of the FCS?
