Does that 37000 already include the ones UT committed to or is it only tickets actually sold?

No, they are forecasting only around 40,000 total attendance for the game so the 37,000 would already include the Toledo tickets.

RE: Tickets Sold
What I meant, does the 37000 include the entire lot of UT's 10,000 or only those of the 10,000 that UT sold? Or did UT sell all10,000 of their allotment?

40,000 would seem a good crowd on gift return day and 10,000 from UT not bad considering a home game is maybe 17,000-20,000 butts in the seats.

I still wish there had been some fan events, something that made this seem as if it were a special occasion. Even something as simple as (DEEP) discounts to local attractions/restaurants coming with the football ticket might have made it worth a full day or two in Detroit for me. Of course, being Sunday, the attractions might not be open anyhow. An all-day party at Ford Field with some local music and reasonably priced food venders would even have been nicer than what they've offered up.

I can't see why Detroit is deserving of a "Bowl." It doesn't seem as if they did anything to attract an out-of-town crowd and they put all the burden on the teams.

Which at 40,000, would make it the second highest atttended bowl to date...

Not only do they not promote things to do, it's almost as-if they discourage visitors. At the casinos on Sunday, you'll find minimum wager at blackjack or poker tables has magically increased overnight. There will still be $5/$10 tables, just fewer of them. I also suspect (but of course can't prove) the slots are a little tighter.

I'm not much of a gambler so little of this affects me, and I understand the Detroit casinos are not a charity organization but something seems wrong for those will want to gamble but stepping up to a $50 or $100 table seems prohibitive.

You definetly don't gamble...LOL. Casinos will raise table minimums based on how busy they are. In the morning you will find $5 minimum tables and these will steadily increase throughtout the day as the crowd increases. Either way, you will most likely find at least one table with a minimum of around $15 or $25 even when they are busy, but good luck getting a seat at it.

Slot machines are all fixed rates per play ranging from penny slots to several hundred dollars a pull...and never change.

As a BG fan RWT would know this, because BG fans are gambling the roulette wheel every time their offense takes the field and calls a running play.

Yea, I wish they had some stuff/events to do before the game. I want to get up their early in the afternoon, but I don't know if my friends will want to because there probably won't be anything to do but eat.

I thought the same thing- "Nothing to do BUT eat?" What else do you need?

So the Rocket fans are hanging out at Hockeytown Cafe?

"Need?" Don't think it's about needs but I can eat at home. Detroit has things Toledo doesn't but they don't seem to be part of the Bowl program in the least.

Is there a half-time show maybe? Anything "Detroitish" about this at all or is the indoor stadium supposed to be the attraction?

Just read in the Detroit News, Toledo has sold 5K of its 10K allotment. That is pathetic for only being 60 miles away. I will never understand why the Toledo community doesn't embrace the Rockets as their home town team.

I for one bought mine through ticket master. Much cheaper for me to purchase four for the price of two than to go through the university. I don't like it but I have to look at it through an economic lens instead of a loyalty one. Not saying the university needs to lower the prices, but I have to do what is best for me.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Many people bought through other options than the UT ticket office because they could get them cheaper, so they didn't count towards UT's allotment.

From what it sounds like though, that the bowl isn't worried about empty seats with a projected 40,000 attendance. Toledo will have around 15-20,000 there but mostly from people who purchased elsewhere. Not to worry.

It's my understanding that UT must pay for tickets they were allotted and did not sell. That would be a big hit to the athletic department budget. So it does hurt when people go elsewhere to buy tickets.

Yep, that's how it works. UT must sell a certain amount of tickets to be eligible for the bowl payoff. The bowl doesn't care if they are sold to actual people, if you get what I mean.

I'm starting to, but "people" here don't want to hear, which makes this sentence circular.

Anyhow, not the least of the reasons may be because you can't turn on a tv and see a Rocket game! UT needs it's own public/sports broadcasting station.

There's nothing "Bowl" special about this game, neither from the effort of UT nor particularly from Detroit. Detroit has plenty of potential for entertainment. Their committee (headed by a UT grad) just didn't deliver.

The prices through UT were just too much for me for what amounts to just an extra in-season game and I haven't come across a less expensive option.

If 40,000 do show, it may be those that wanted to see Toledo just took a different option to buying their ticket. Through thought or ignorance I don't know. Of more importance is how many students go. If for example, they got 5000 students (no particular importance to that number), I would think that amazing support.
