Basketball +/- each game and season totals to date
The NBA uses the +/- stat in their box scores now. It basically shows how the team performs when a given player is on the court. It isn't something that is widely tracked at the college level. I decided to track it for each game so far.

Game #1 Mt. St. Mary's W 69-59
Wright +9
Dixon +11
Thomas E
Gates +8
Bishop +1
Kilpatrick +10
Jackson +9
Davis -2
Wilks +1
Parker +5
McClain -2

Game #2 IPFW W 65-59
Wright +4
Dixon +3
Thomas -1
Gates +8
Bishop +1
Kilpatrick +4
Jackson +4
Davis +3
Wilks +3
Parker E
McClain +1

Game #3 Florida A&M W 76-51
Wright +27
Dixon +21
Thomas +14
Gates +21
Bishop +14
Kilpatrick +17
Jackson +5
Davis -2
Wilks +10
Parker -2
McClain E

Game #4 Savannah St. W 54-41
Wright +15
Dixon +13
Thomas +12
Gates +19
Bishop +4
Kilpatrick -5
Jackson -2
Davis +2
Wilks +6
Parker +7
McClain -4

Game #5 Dayton W 68-34
Wright +31
Dixon +38
Thomas +28
Gates +19
Bishop +37
Kilpatrick -5
Jackson +14
Davis -5
Wilks +11
Parker +5
McClain -3
Tyree -2
McBride +2
Eppensteiner +2

Game #6 Wright St. W 77-69
Wright -1
Dixon -4
Thomas +3
Gates +1
Bishop -2
Kilpatrick +16
Jackson -1
Davis +24
Wilks +13
Parker +6
McClain E
**Gametracker was messing on up some substitutions very late in the second half. Tried my best.

Game #7 Toledo W 81-47
Gametracker didn't show the substitutions so it was virtually impossible to see who was on the court and when they subbed in.

Season 6 Games (minus Toledo)
Wright +85
Dixon +82
Thomas +56
Gates +76
Bishop +55
Kilpatrick +39
Jackson +29
Davis +20
Wilks +44
Parker +21
McClain -8
Tyree -2
McBride +2
Eppensteiner +2

Thanks. I have been reading this board since 2005, thought I would start to offer up something to the discussion. Wilks may not look the most coordinated at times, but he brings athleticism to the floor which helps on defense. He also can pass in high post. If he gets rid of his questionable passes. Mick calls them "Darnell Wilks Specials". He could be a solid role player the rest of the way.

Always like stuff like this. Of course who you play with is going to strongly affect these numbers. Last year there was a site that posted adjusted plus/minus numbers about half way through the year. Hopefully they do it again.

I saw some sites like that, but they weren't updated. I hope they do it over time. I was surprised to see Larry Davis +24 against Wright St. He played 20 minutes and was on the floor during the 2 big runs, so that helps.

Thank you Abe. Can you explain how the ranking is calculated?

It's as simple as it looks. It is the +/- scoring margin for the bearcats while that player is on the floor.

I was really glad to see the contributions of Eppensteiner and McBride against UD and Toledo. I knew they'd be "+".

I'm not. That was the best game of his career, even with only getting 3 points. His on the ball defense really flustered the Wright St. PG. He played a huge part in that win.

The passing by Wilks has bee a positive. For every 1 bad pass, he seems to make 3 or 4 amazing ones. You are definitely right about his high post passing. He is one of the few guys that effectively gets into the middle of a zone defense and is able to find an open man underneath.

Great information. It underscores how important guard play is in college basketball. Cash Wright and Dixon are key to UC's sucess this season.

This is very cool. Lot to be said for this stat. Do you make those around you better? Of course, I think the really interesting stat would be to divide this number by the minutes played. That would truly tell you something. Maybe I'll patent that stat.

I was going to put minutes per game as well. Wilks is averaging 12 minutes per game and is +44 for the year, not including the Toledo game in the +/-.

RE: Basketball +/- each game and season totals to date
This is one of my favorite NBA stats. Shane Battier would probably say this is the best stat because he's always very high in this despite having only mediocre pts/rbs/assists/steals/etc. Very useful stat in the NBA because on the average, there is a not a huge disparity from the best to the worst teams. But for college it absolutely needs to divided per minutes played, especially in these early games. When you're playing teams that are blowouts the number is going to be positive for just about everyone, and those players that log the most minutes will have their numbers skewed favorably. For example, when playing Toledo if you stuck me out there with 4 other UC players and let me play for 35 minutes and no other UC player logged more than 20 minutes I'd likely end up with the highest positive number even thou I added no real value.

Add another voice in support of seeing this stat divided by minutes played. Good stuff.

At the bottom of the page here http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Cincinnati you sort of get similar data. Useful to see who is contributing.

Edit: Just noticed Bishop is 15-15 on free throws this year.

It will be interesting to see how these numbers change, either in the positive or the negative, when Big East play picks up... please keep those numbers coming!!! Stats are the only reason why people like baseball...

RE: Basketball +/- each game and season totals to date
And here is the average production per minute played...

Wilks +44 pts/70 mins = .629
Wright +85 pts/158 mins= .538
Dixon +81 pts/160 mins= .506
Thomas +56 pts/117 mins= .479
Gates +76 pts/177 mins= .429
Bishop +55 pts/140 mins= .393
Jackson +29 pts/79 mins= .367
Kilpatrick +37 pts/120 mins= .308
Parker +21 pts/73 mins= .288
Davis +20 pts/77 mins= .260
Mcclain -8 pts/25 mins = -.320

I think most people will be surprised that Wilks is tops on the team so far, especially since he tends to play with the second team a lot when we have a large lead. Also a little surprising to see Kilpatrick so far down on the list. Other than those two nobody really sticks out.
