Teams to never have made the NCAA tourney
We started Championship week with 43 teams never having been to the NCAA tourney.
Lipscomb made that 42 by winning the Atlantic Sun.
Of those 42, 33 have already been eliminated.
The remaining 9:
UC-Riverside - 8th Seed in Big West Tourney, plays tomorrow
Bethune-Cookman - 2nd Seed in MEAC Tourney, plays today
Savannah State - 3rd Seed in MEAC Tourney, plays tomorrow
Central Arkansas - 7th Seed in Southland Tourney, plays today
And the WAC 5:
Utah Valley, UMKC, GCU, Chicago State and UTRGV. WAC Tourney starts tomorrow.

Those are "newer" D1 teams. What about the ones that are older? Army, William & Mary, what other schools were like Northwestern?

Army, William & Mary, The Citadel and St. Francis NY are the four teams that were around in DI in 1939 that have never gone - all are already eliminated this year.

Not that it would ever ever eeeeeeeever happen, but let's suppose that Savannah State went on a wild-ass run that made VCU in 2011 look like Gonzaga in any WCC tournament. They get to the Sweet 16 or even Elite 8 somehow.
If that happens, would they rethink their drop-down decision? Especially if they get earn units that they never get (I presume) because they would be in D2 for most of the life of the payout? Would three (four, if they're in the play-in) wins get them enough benefit, directly and indirectly, to make D1 viable again?

I take it you guys are considering the NIT for the older programs?

I'm rooting for Savannah State, who sadly one way or another isn't D-I material. Can't afford it and can't compete.
If not, I'd love to see Bethune-Cookman sneak in.

IIRC, Centenary actually got ranked or at least was receiving votes in some basketball polls in the early 70's
Edit...yes 14 weeks

Well Savannah St. will be off that list either way next year when they drop to D-II.
We will need to add. N.Alabama, Cal Baptist, UCSD who won't be eligible for a few years.
Of the 42 left 22 have lost the conference championship game that would have got them in. B.-Cookman, UMES, Stetson, Chicago St., Denver, Omaha, PUFW, S.Dakota, W.Illinois, Maine, Hartford, St.Francis(NY), Sacred Heart, UT-Martin, Gardner-Webb, High Point, USC-Upstate, Elon, William & Mary, Quinnipiac, Citadel, Grambling.
all missed by 1 gm.

I told you I only see 1 this year. Sucks
I was thinking Loyola-Chi going for the 1sty time since 85 was as good as it was gonna get but luckily Lipscomb pulled it off.

RE: Teams to never have made the NCAA tourney
Loyola Chicago is 8-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, 9-4 if you include the consolation bracket. That might be the best winning percentage among teams that have played at least 10 NCAA Tournament games.

WAC Tourney Games:
GCU vs UMKC
CSU-Bakersfield vs UVU
Chicago State vs NMSU
Seattle vs UTRGV
GCU/UMKC is only game that is guaranteed a never to advance

When I update the Bids by conference on the wiki page it looks so bad when the Summit, A-Sun, WAC lists have less than half when most of the other conferences have 10-14 teams on the list

Surprised UTRGV hasn't made the tourney. They had some pretty good teams in the 70s& 80s under Abe Lemons and later Lon Kruger.
