RE: The Big Sky and Summit schedule a crossover challenge series with select schools
UND Football, Olympics
2017 Big Sky, Big Sky
2018 Big Sky, Summit
2019 Big Sky, Summit
2020 MVFC, Summit
Contracts signed. End of story. Why 2020 instead of 2019 (the announcement was 1/26/2017)? Most likely it had something to do with contracts and Big Sky schedules set up for the 2016-19 period ( http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbm...09494583), as they do it in four year blocks, and schools committing to those. Mind you they had to revise the last two years for Idaho (not reflected in that old article). The two year exit notice would have allowed leaving in 2019, but that would have left UND owing road games to four Big Sky schools they hosted in 2016-18 period and there is undoubtedly some financial penalty for backing out of those.
Yeah, sorry I can't produce a conspiracy like NoDak. Just boring things like finance and contracts.

To be fair, the conspiracy theory is pretty boring too.

Like conference move are not silent conspiracies. Was the Maryland move to the Big 10 lacking in silent motives? Did Maryland preannounce to the ACC that they were leaving??
NDSU had a home game scheduled with UND in 2019, so it's not in their interest to get UND into the MVFC until 2020. Can't believe you are that stupid.
2020 will be the season that the Montanas and Idaho can get out of the Big Sky fb season with exit fee if they annnouce leaviing by June 26, 2018.

It's all about reducing expenses, which is why they have dropped Baseball and Women's Hockey recently as well. The increasing costs of playing at D-I level, combined with flat revenue (student growth spurt is over ... their primary funding is via tuition and fees not gate) has led to several cost cutting measures.
Paying an exit fee (don't remember how much exactly but somewhere between $250K and $500k) would run counter to reducing expenses. The math must work out such that the travel cost differential of playing 4 road games in the Big Sky for two years is considerably less than paying an exit fee. Hence the wait until 2020 for Football.
Sure, that's the "logical" explanation, but doesn't it make more sense to come up with an outlandish conspiracy theory?
There has been documented political blocking of schools all over, but you reject that when you have absolutely no clue about the local politics. Makes zero sense, but all righty then. The Fargo media is the only one that matters in the state for college sports and some have their interview privileges blocked by Ndue when they ask questions that the NDSU President doesnt want asked. He delated emails against the law after all in violation of the FOIA.
As I said before, you're seeing things that aren't there. You seem unable or unwilling to view the situation objectively due to your emotional investment in the schools in question. You also appear to be ignoring or discounting out of hand the simple and reasonable explanations people here are giving for innocuous happenings such as the delay in UND joining the MVFC. There's zero actual evidence for the imminent formation of an FCS conference consisting of the Montana and Dakota schools (let alone an FBS version of it). Wild conjecture is insufficient to support your claim.
The one reputable sportswriter in Fargo has serious questions about the future of the Summit League.
bisonmedia.areavoices.com/now-what-for-the-summit-league/
Every decision, including cost cutting ones, our current President has made has been done with a plan to build up UND. E .g The swimming facility and old basketball arena are scheduled to be demolished and a new STEM facility built in its place, hence M&W Swimming was cut. A new business school will also be built, even though the old medical school lies mostly vacant. The Summit League won't be the same as our President has a grand plan (his words) to build up the finest U in the northern plains. We are not joining the Summit only to see it fail and low academic schools like W Illinois and IPFW won't be part of it.
When a $110 million hockey arena was donated and built, it came under heavy fire from SJW for not being academically focused. The plan is already in place for a new football stadium on nearby UND owned but now closed golf course as well as other buildings that will be paid for with one massive donation. There is too much remodeling, demolition, and current plans for something grander not to happen. Our President is not reckless, as he was treasurer at a Fortune 500 company before getting into politics and education.
Can you post a link discussing the plan for your new FB stadium and this big donation? As for remodeling, demolition and current plans, I don't even recognize South Dakota State's campus any longer. The entire campus has been rebuilt, much of it in the past decade. That doesn't mean something bigger is just around the corner. What it does mean is that we have had great leadership who saw the issues and have addressed those issues. Will something bigger happen? Possibly, but it won't occur for another 5-10 years minimum.
And I agree with you in regards to your President. His financial acumen is the reason he is waving goodbye to the BSC and moving his school into the Summit/MVFC.

The 13000 seat arena next door can be used. Surprised they didn't have the NDSU M&W double header BB games there, as there was no hockey series that weekend. When it first opened, they staged some big games like that and drew 10k. A Kansas game was sold out.
But BB has been sliding in popularity all along, even though we have arguably the most BB tradition of Dakota schools. But hockey recruits are such high level. For example, Brock Boeser stayed for only two years, and he was recently the MVP of the NHL All Star game. Brock has only played in Tampa's arena twice, once for the All Star game and once ( actually two games) when we won a National Championship.

If USD announced OOC games other than Iowa State and Kansas, you might be on to something. Teams switching conferences don't announce a new conference schedule before the actual conference switch. The OOC games only show two FBS games. If USD did more than that, it would be news.
You posters are so erroneous in your logic, like Maryland, Rutgers, West Virginia, and TCU announced their new conferences by detailing their new schedule. That thinking is so full of crap.

Conversely, then, if a team is not switching conferences, they would indeed be inclined to release conference schedules in advance, as USD just did. So USD seems to be under the assumption that the MVFC will still exist as is in 2020, just with UND added. That suggests that either the Great North will not form in 2020 or, perhaps more likely, there is in fact a secret plan, but USD is just not in on it.
What we need to figure out, then, is (1) why UND and its allies would deliberately keep USD in the dark, and (2) how they managed to convince the MVFC schools that are being left behind to pretend to schedule games against USD. These -- these are the questions.

An interesting article from a childhood UND hockey fan:

I'd be more then happy to argue over your BB tradition, I'd put your program 3rd over the decades, behind SDSU and USD. Maybe you meant the most in North Dakota.

Renovations are beginning this year. The first phase, which some work has begun, is to add new Men's and Women's practice facilities, the second phase, rebuilding the arena will begin after next season and be complete in time for the 2019-20 season. The third phase will be adding a 15,000 square foot wresting facility. A sport that has become big at SDSU. We average over 2,000 per wrestling match, including a school record 4,300 against Iowa last year.
