Thank you Bob. All is going well on the stadium. We are quietly fine tuning the final design and cost estimates along with the schedule. Nothing to report publicly as all continue to be moving targets at this point. Sorry I do not have more to report. Stay tuned. ws

Selig and Broderick are both mealy-bureaucrats not visionaries or leaders. We need leaders at ODU, not bean counters. Time for a change.

I know Runte ruffled some feathers up in Richmond, but the lady sure did have vision. I loved how she stated her desire to make ODU a top 100 Research institution, how she brought in football and created a sense of pride not seen before or since at ODU. Its as if she saw the great potential of the place and was determined to make it happen, in spite of the politicians in Richmond trying to smack her down and telling her to know her place in the pecking order. She fought to make ODU a top tier, high quality, desirable place for people to want to come and learn. The guys in charge now seem willing to roll over while Richmond tramples any aspirations of greatness, as if ODU and its students don't deserve nice things. Those should be reserved for the "upper class". Runte didnt put up with that crap and it showed.

+1

I happened to see Broderick interviewed at halftime of the Empty Sue game and I was very unimpressed. He was stumbling and awkward, to say the least. Not polished at all.

Now this was the only time I have ever seen him speak, so maybe it was a bad day for him. If so, I truly, sincerely, apologize. However, it wasn't a confidence builder for me.

I don't know how deep is your connection to the university, but I would have been shocked if he had told you something in an email that wasn't ready to go public on this subject. Nonetheless, nice try.

I didn’t send the email; my sole contribution is a joke about CUSA’s media deal

I was trying to edit that because I misinterpreted the tone but my phone wouldn't let me.

I'm for the plan to blow up both sides spend 90% of the money on the home side with suites and amenities and 2 to 3 years later complete the other side. I'd rather have a half awesome stadium than a complete half-assed stadium!

Me too. At least then theres hope for something good eventually. If its built lousy, it will stay that way for a long time. My expectations have been lowered so much that at this point, Id be ok with what JMU has currently on the west side and end zone. Especially if we can get rid of the east clamshell and put somewhat matching cheap construction bleachers on that side.

$50 million on the west, $5 million on the east for now. Then in 5 years drop $25 million on the east side and end zone and make it decent.

I don't really have a problem with a small size, though I think 25,000 is about right for now. But if we are going to build that small, make it awesome. High tech stuff everywhere, suites, gorgeous scoreboard, club levels, sound system, ammentites galore. Thats what will bring people coming back. Make it a show and a cool place to be as much or more so than simply a football game. It wouldnt be bad if we built the best 20,000 seat stadium in the country as long as it was expandable.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/co...story.html

"But the SEC didn’t see the biggest decline.--That honor would go to the American Athletic Conference which saw its attendance from the previous season drop nearly 3,000 fans per game from 31,611 to 28,669. It was the second straight season in which the AAC saw a decline."

a few teams are dragging down this average (Tulane, Tulsa, SMU all under 20K)--what I would refer to as OPPORTUNITY...however, if we sold out every single game at 25K we would still be under the AAC average..."but but but we can expand!...maybe"...lol, yeah ok...

In a world of 4K HD and VR just around the corner, the stadium needs to incentivize people to leave the comfort of their homes. The die hards here don't need it, but the casual fan does. And the casual fan at the game is the difference between 10k butts in seats and 20k butts in seats*

*this sentence not to be confused with actual facts
