It’s the associated press story. The Pilot probably doesn’t have the money to send their ODU writer on a three-day trip to Mississippi and Louisiana. It’s not ideal but when you’re in the process of outsourcing your page design (something for which the Pilot has gotten international acclaim), spending money for trips like this isn’t a great look.

Not a fan of these Instagram broadcasts. Very annoying girly girly chatter.Split screen sucks. Of course I'm old so maybe the kids like it.
I'm not that old. I'm under 30 and it was annoying

Yeah, it was not that bad for the mtsu game. They went a bit overboard. That might have had to do with the game being a blow out.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.
I was at that game so didn't get a chance to see the broadcast.

I agree with bit. MT game not so bad, last night was obnoxious. Great feed but they need to reign in the social media aspect of it a bit. I get what they're trying to do but save the dog pics till at least a deadball

Yeah, but the gnome was awesome!

I have been most impressed with BeIN. Reminds me of ESPN 30 years ago. Great production and announcing

The Pilot has not sent a reporter on our away game trips for a while now. They did not even bother to send one to the UNCC game which would not have cost that much as it was a single game and a drivable distance. I guess we are lucky ODU is in Norfolk or they probably would not cover the home games (insert sarcasm emoticon here).

the one I'm seeing (online) is not a story, it's a stat sheet summary...it could have been written by any of the 10K people that live in Tavalu (and might have been)...

I don't know what the situation is there these days, but they've been dialing back the travel for a few years now. My suspicion is that if ODU were ranked, they'd try to find a way to get to some of the games they're not going to now, or at least hire a local freelancer. I know some places will have the reporter write a game story off the radio, but nobody liked that arrangement.

They don't have as many writers as they used to, so I guess they have to pick and choose what they can cover, and three to four days in the Gulf Coast may be a luxury they can ill afford. And it's not just them; newspapers across the country are cutting back on the content because they're low on money and headcount, and falling with every day.

This is what I saw, a four-paragraph AP story: https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/o...f3dea.html

Not sure what the print version looked like since I don't live there anymore.

How about they just have Ed watch the game from home and have a phone call interview with the team after the game?

Yes, this is nearly a free option. In the case of the most recent game on Facebook, it is a totally free option.

Please help me, the cyber helpless! I heard the tail end a couple of times the announcer saying that you can watch Stadium on Firestick. Anyone know how?? After attempting to use my IPad and an HDMI cord to project on a friend's big screen we gave up. I finally got it to work with a PC.

Good Gawd those female announcers were so annoying. We (old people I'll admit) kept yelling when they were "social media-ing...."We don't care...get back to the game!!"

They've done that before, though I'm not sure if they have with ODU. And other newspapers do it too. But there's usually something lost by not being there. Sort of like when ESPN does PBP of a football game from their studios instead of on-site. Plus the Pilot, like most newspapers, have early deadlines on Saturday night because of the time it takes for the printing press folks to put together the Sunday edition. So logistics becomes an issue. Finally, and I have no way of knowing if this is the case, they may have had him doing something else this weekend. With fewer hands on deck than they had even five years ago, much less 10 and 20, beat-exclusive writers are becoming rarer. Sometimes they have to help on the high school beat, or do a desk shift, or something else.

It's not ideal, and my guess is if you asked anyone in a position of authority there, they'd also say that it's not ideal. In a perfect world, they'd cover all ODU football and men's basketball games with a staff reporter (and a columnist for big home games), as well as have someone at all ODU women's home games and whatever drivable road games they have. And not all that long ago, they did. But after a few rounds of layoffs, well, you do the best you can with what you've got.

It'd be nice if newspapers could hire freelancers to cover those games again, but for selfish reasons because I'm available for freelancing on Saturdays.

You can go to the app store on your fire stick and download the Facebook Video app (it may be listed simply as Facebook. That's how it shows up on my android TV.) once you download the app just search for stadium sports after the game start time and scroll down until you see the game.

And to back up one more step, you can get a firestick from Amazon here if you don't have one: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-TV-St...B00ZV9RDKK

RE: ODU @ La Tech
What a great league we are in. On Saturday in the paper there was game after game after game listed as being on TV. Teams with losing records, top teams, in between teams and even Virginia teams. By ODU was listed 94.1 FM. The only one in their giant list that just had radio listed.

So now there is page after page in the game thread about all the steps you have to go through to watch the Monarchs, on a flipping phone or laptop or iPad. Why should we even have to do this at all? CUSA sucks and the folks at ODU sure don't help much. Used to be able to watch at least some of the games on local stations.

Weak sauce.

Btw, congrats to the team for playing a great game, on the road no less. One of the best they have played in awhile. Haven't lost a league game on the road.19-5 record. You almost wouldn't know that from this now turned into techie thread.

I will agree wholeheartedly with the weak sauce television coverage. However, the options we have to watch the games that are televised, are not very complex though. The ESPN3 and Facebook options are actually super easy and take about 30 seconds for most folks to get tuned in. CUSAtv is pretty spotty though.

I have an older IPAD, Apple TV, ROKU, and a desktop computer. I could access the web page and select the game against LA Tech Saturday night, but the game would not load. The indication was that my Media Player needed to be something other than it is.

I am able to watch ESPN3 streaming via my Apple TV.

Is there something that I can go out and purchase - Firestick maybe - that won't cost an arm and a leg that will allow me to watch these games on my big screen 4K TV? Can someone please take the time to list the other things that you have to do - and how - in order to make said new device work for getting the games?

I've never been to the webpage, I just went to facebook and played the game from their (which streams to the TV using a firestick).

You can certainly use the firestick for the espn3 games as long as you have some type of cable subscription. Just good streaming from computer to firestick.

Im sure there is a way for the others as well, but I haven't used them.
