RE: MAC 2018 Recruiting!
EMU is doing well. Twitter indicates: Two JUCO WRs, two JUCO DTs, one very highly rated H.S. OL, and one good H.S. WR/S/KR.
EMU fans are very excited by both these recruits, plus December's, plus a grad transfer QB from Iowa, Wiegers.

RE: MAC 2018 Recruiting!
KSU fans are ecstatic! There have been recruits flipping to KSU! That's almost unheard of at KSU. According to 247 Sports, they have three of there top ten recruits since 2000.
Currently 5th in the MAC. I understand recruiting rankings may not be the best, but to see recruits flipping to KSU is a positive sign for the program.

Definitely good news for KSU. It got weird there for a while and I'm glad to see the program is seeing some upturn

All of Toledo signees are on their Twitter Page. I think Toledo is waiting on two more guys one a Defensive End from Martin Luther King HS in Detroit and a WR from Pickerington Central (Columbus area), but he may not be able to fax his paper work in because school is cancelled today.

Akron has four in so far. We're expecting 13, but a lot of schools in the area have closed due to a snow storm and so are delaying signing day activities until tomorrow.

RE: MAC 2018 Recruiting!
The Zips got a surprise signing from Abraham Alce, the #1 ranked fullback nationally by ESPN. They only have two fullbacks ranked, so it doesn't mean too much, but it still is fun to say that we got a top ranked recruit. He had offers from Wisconsin and Miami among a whole bunch of G5 programs.
Akron also pulled in a last minute signing from a 3-star OL with a solid offer sheet of G5 teams.

Toledo has the 25th rated QB in the class who picked us over about every relevant P5. The class went 64th good for 4th in the G5.

Miami had two today (small class, the rest signed on early bird day) - a QB grad transfer from U of Michigan and a TE with offers from Iowa State, Maryland, Pitt, Rutgers, Tennessee, Marshall, UCF, Toledo, and six others.

RE: MAC 2018 Recruiting!
Toledo with an amazing class. higher ranked than the best PJ Fleck class at WMU.
Top recruit according to the scouting numbers is Jaylin Williams a Florida 2 sport star who doesn't really have a position and might end up as a DB but is nearly impossible to tackle. Had his choice of SEC and ACC offers but something went south a bit and he decommitted from Florida and chose UT. Hopefully, grades are ok.
Bradley, another Florida kid, had his choice of P5 offers and is a pure passer. Wilkenson, another pocket passer with a nice arm, was the 3rd best recruit in WV.
Best part of the class is it is loaded with talented big guys. 6 or 7 on each side of the line including a 4 star (or 3 depending on the service) OT prospect from Florida and another really good Florida guard prospect plus a really good Toledo area kid who was all state in Ohio. DLine adds in Mullins from Columbus who was a highly rated Indiana DT recruit last year but didn't enroll and ended up at UT. Got a surprise late signee from JUCO who had been a 2017 Arkansas signee but had an academic issue and went back to juco.
Also added a ton of good LB prospects which is a weak position group in the program so that was helpful.
And as the joke has been going on the board the Rockets added 3 kids named Johnson to go with 2 more already on the roster, so the Rockets are long on Johnsons.
As for the MAC, biggest surprise to me was Kent St getting the 100th rated class. That may not seem great but KSU usually is among the lowest 10-15 D1 teams, but this year is rated ahead of 30. Good sign for their program. Western has another strong class with a few studs. Surprised Miami is rated so low after a few solid classes, but imagine part of that is having a very small class which means there are a lot of redshirts in the program and few guys leaving unexpectedly. The ugly is Buffalo as the next to last class in the nation behind a few FCS schools.
Of course, recruiting is only a partial predictor of success. Strong recruiting gives a program a foundation of talent but MAC champions have won with mediocre recruiting classes and kids who not among the top recruits in a school's class often emerge as their best players down the line. Toledo's Cody Thompson will play in the NFL. He was the lowest ranked recruit in his class at UT.

One could argue that WMUs class is even more impressive. It's also higher ranked than the best PJ fleck class and we only had 21 scholarships to give this year.

Debating which of these (Toledo or Western's) classes is better is about as close to a moot point as is possible. Hell you can really lump the top 3 or 4 classes in there. They are virtually identical in talent levels according to a somewhat arbitrary system of ranking 17 year old kids. I am excited about the class but at this point it's purely about the development of the players. Not the fact that one class averaged a 3.25 rating and the other a 3.26. Granted it is kind of fun to talk about.
