Troy Gets 4-Star OU Transfer, Eligible Immedately
https://247sports.com/Player/Will-Sunder...hool-57647
Has already graduated, will have two years to play, as he is a junior.
0.9320 on 247.
Sunderland was rated as the No. 7 safety in the country; the No. 2 player at any position in the state of Oklahoma; and the No. 155 recruit on 247Sports.com‘s composite board.
227th in the ESPN300. He is the second ESPN300 guy we've picked up in the last few weeks.
Full Disclosure: He was booted from Oklahoma on some pretty hefty legal charges. Some of you will make a stink about, but as long as Neal Brown has been head coach, we've not taken in these kind of players. Just saying, before you guys spout off about "Thug U". His academic prowess alleviates some of my concerns, but the legal proceedings appear to be ongoing. Not crazy about at all about this, but I trust Neal brown, and we'll see what happens...
On another note, two grad transfers and five JUCO transfers doesn't make he happy either, but we've done pretty well in that regard so far. Most of our roster were high school recruits.

Defensive much?
We've all taken in a guy with a past.. don't think anyone will label you with "Thug U".

Quote:Sunderland was suspended indefinitely from the OU football program June 19 and was arrested on a felony charge of second-degree burglary in Cleveland County, plus a misdemeanor charge of concealing stolen property in Oklahoma County.

Had offers from Ohio State, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Only four signees in the Sooners’ class that year were rated higher than Sunderland.

You haven't been around this board much. The first thing people usually say is "I wouldn't be taking in a guy like that, make me wonder about Neal Brown". He has a preliminary hearing on the 6th for a felony burglary charge. No weapons were mentioned. We'll know more soon, but I know how people here get when a high profile recruits comes to one of our schools.

Ehhhhh....welllll.....he did graduate I guess....high risk, high reward. If it goes south it will be ugly. I personally would not like to see GS do it but we did take Henton back in the day under a different staff, he was arrested for something dont know if it ever lead to a conviction so not quite as bad. Good luck.

Well taking kids that have been arrested and probably convicted of something is usually not a recipe for success regardless of talent level lol. If he was not talented he would not be getting the spot either lets not make this giving a kid a second chance thing either. Reps are earned I dont think taking ONE kid is going to have USA fans calling you thug U.

Don't have any problem with teams taking these players as long as they are given short leashes, which I feel sure Neal Brown will.

I would rather not be AU though and take everyone's rejects either, ONE after vetting heavily is not a big deal once an awhile, taking everyone that shows interest is just because they are talented is. Troy is fine unless the kid f's up.

He did graduate so there is a positive that he is taking academics seriously.

Quote:In July, OU coach Lincoln Riley said of Sunderland’s future with the program: “I would go as far to say if he's not exonerated, then he won't be back.”
I mean.....this isn't a good look, no matter how you try and justify it.
In another thread you've got a guy getting massacred in the court of public opinion because of a dumb comment in the heat of competition......but people aren't supposed to look at this one funny?

I have no problem with a program giving a kid a second chance depending on the attitude of the kid involved. People make mistakes...sometimes significant ones. If Brown has vetted the kid and feels he is an acceptable risk, I hope it works out. If the kid gets into more trouble, it will be an embarrassment that will have to be dealt with swiftly.

Also, he a commit, and not a signed graduate transfer. We'll see what happens. I'm sure he would count toward some kind of recruiting numbers, but I'm not sure he'd be included in 247's rankings.

Yes, CSNbbs is the only message board that throws this type of logic around. /s

LOL Bro I never said this board is the only one. All message boards behave roughly the same. It's just human nature.
"playing the victim" on a message board...OK. I'm such a "victim". No one takes this stuff that seriously bro.

RE: Troy Gets 4-Star OU Transfer, Eligible Immedately
Maybe yall can figure this out for me:
"Sunderland was charged with felony burglary in Cleveland County and turned himself in to authorities. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 6 in Cleveland County, according to court documents."
If he turned himself in, then he would be presumed guilty. If he gets convicted of the felony, I don't see how he can play for anyone as he will be serving a sentence. Are they banking on them reducing the charge to a misdemeanor because he turned himself in?
