A10 Question
I may regret asking but here is goes.
There is a rumor that Lasalle is looking at the MAAC?
The question, if you were JMU, would you be happy A10 all sports and CAA/fcs football?
I am asking because you have experienced CUSA/G5...I/we have not.
I could better stomach fcs football playing A10 basketball/new arena.

Interesting question because football is the stronger sport for you but you'd be making the big jump in basketball. Having the new arena will help you become more competitive but it'd take a pretty big upswing to be A-10 competitive — George Mason started A-10 play from a better position and have largely been a non-entity since.
I suspect it's moot for two reasons: 1. The A-10 is resistant to schools with FBS or potential FBS programs outside of the grandfathered UMass, and 2. If LaSalle left, they'd still have 13 schools which is more than enough for a upper-mid basketball conference. I can't see them hurrying to get back to 14 unless, I don't know, one of the Big East programs got expelled or something wacky like that.

RE: A10 Question
Not sure it makes sense. A10 would add a weak basketball school and the moneymaker (football) remains in FCS.
They should look out for whats beat for football program.

No way A10 would consider even ask the PUKES. Stop dreaming and you are stuck where you are so get used to it.

You could make the same statement concerning ODU.

I have....I agree we are stuck but at least we are FBS. I have also said if CUSA Football and Basketball could strengthen a little we would start to rival AAC from a top to bottom perspective.

Since JMU, for better or for worse, is primarily a football school, I'm not sure their fans would enjoy that. ODU fans probably aren't the best to ask because, despite our move to FBS, most fans still consider us to be a basketball school. (Of course, the debacle with the "new" Stadium isn't helping change that.)
My guess is that you would be happier with a competitive G5 football team while competing for the CAA crown in basketball.

I’d take A10 everything and CAA football in a heartbeat. I wish we had that now. That’s because I like basketball better.

I was holding out hope that JMU would join CUSA. The football game would give us a great rivalry game to look forward to every year. And perhaps your basketball team would regain its former glory - although it’s not hard to finish middle of the pack in our league. With that said, no I wouldn’t be happy staying FCS in football even if able to play basketball in the A10. Although it sounds really tempting.
Your football team is too good to stay in the FCS. You belong in the FBS. And, unfortunately, your basketball team would struggle to compete in the A10 (although I’m sure your recruiting would improve due to the A10 brand). I don’t see the appeal of being another version of Fordham in the A10.

I was going to say something about half of you being so rude to this guy, but then I remembered I posted once or twice in the JMU board asking non controversial questions just wanting to get to know the teams better, which both got 0 responses. So, meh.

Purplehazed knew what he was getting into. We just funnin' with him. He's an FBS or bust guy if I remember correctly so I'm a bit surprised he'd be warm to the A10 if it means staying FCS. I'd probably have been happy with that arrangement if we had gone there instead of CUSA but there's no going back now. We got to get to the AAC or else take most of the eastern CUSA members plus UAB and work something else out. Marshall, WKU, MT, Charlotte, UAB. These schools take basketball seriously and are good at football for the most point. We're starting to gain some familiarity and form some rivalries. Fill in with maybe JMU, App St, GSU,GS. We'd have at least a couple reasonable road trips. I'd be fine with USM and LT but might spread us out too far and they might like to orient westward in a split. Overall I don't regret the move to CUSA but long term I don't know if it's viable as is.

RE: A10 Question
The biggest advantage the A10 has over CUSA is that the bottom tier is more competitive. The top is about even and this year I think the top of CUSA is better than the top of A10.

I wonder what noise the explosion will make on here when JMU passes us and goes to AAC and get funding for the other half of their stadium

RE: A10 Question
Wow, some acting like there's hardly a difference in the A10 and CUSA in basketball. I'll tell you one reason I wish we were in it. Just about every year they two three teams into the tournament. That's how VCU gets into the NCAA every year, they sure don't win the conference. That could be us, if they could figure out how to get us in.
But alas, we have football that we will never ever have enough money for. Monarx has it right.

I think there’s at least a 50/50 shot of this happening. State support and academic reputation carry a little weight. Their hoops recruiting will improve w a new arena too.

To answer your question: No. Now that I have experienced 1-A football, I would not want to go back to 1-AA football. All sports membership in the A-10 would only be an improvement for basketball and not such a great one that I would be willing to negatively impact the other sports that CUSA has helped improve like soccer and baseball. Now if you wanted to talk about some mythical Big East/CAA Football hybrid membership then I may be able to get off my 1-A football high horse.
