Great news for everyone in the ACC if the deal goes through. ACC will be promoted as an equal to the SEC since they need 12 months of inventory

Let's hope so. For as long as ESPN has had college football they have been invested in the SEC as much as if not more than the ACC. The launch of the ACC network could be the tipping point. TBD.

Was there some doubt that moving to the ACC was the right call for Syracuse? Would I rather be in the AAC or ACC?

When the checks start rolling in, I'll believe it.

ACC is the redheaded step child of ESPN. They regularly promote SEC to crazy levels, while hardly noticing ACC football.

Most recent of a million examples was when FSU couldn't afford to keep Jimbo, ESPN completely parroted Jimbo's pro SEC message that FSU didn't care about football (not FSU is poorer, but didn't care about football) and A&M was the place to when titles, not FSU. Kirk Herbstreit, let alone Paul Feinbau, repeatedly parroted this. FSU has won 3 national titles since 93 and A&M's last title was 78 years ago.

NOBODY at ESPN said, 'that narrative makes no sense and is total BS.'

ACC is sleeping with the enemy and with friends like these, who needs enemies.

That doesn't mention that # of SEC media members at ESPN. It is dozens and dozens. How many ACC media members at ESPN? ACC football media? The disparity is totally symbolic of where the ACC stands with ESPN.

Won't even begin to address the huge revenue disparity with these networks. ACC will be lucky to make half what the SEC does. And the new SEC age of $2 million DC, and $7-$10 million HC, it's gonna be an issue.

Rip away, but this board is dreaming about what ESPN is to the ACC.

You're definitely right about one thing, Nole: that whole "Jimbo Fisher went to Texas A&M to win championships" was garbage. Jimbo went for the money - pure and simple - but I don't recall ever hearing ESPN just admit that obvious fact.

Those that think ESPN gave / gives The ACC a raw deal are spoiled. You've been in the club so long you simply don't know. You didn't sit from afar and watch the blatant collective ass-kissing of The ACC by ESPN.

The Big East regularly beat The ACC in BCS games? How many BCS bowls did The ACC win?

My point is it's all about a narrative. The powers that be at Disney/ESPN decide what the talking points are going to be for that season to make them money and they stick to them. They form and shape the narrative as they go along but the central points remain the same.

Last year the narrative was about The ACC, this season it was The SEC.

The ACC is one of ESPN's fair-haired children. You want redhead stepchild, try being a member of The American. You'll change your mind real quick.

Herbstreit did repeatedly. Offered no consideration to any counterpoint.

Appreciate the reference of the ex Big East, etc schools and how they are happy to be in P5.

But at the new level, you need a new level perspective. The goal isn't "just glad to be here"......now we have to compete with these schools (really the P2 of SEC and B1G), if you can't.....you won't survive. And it is tough to compete with schools making $15-$20 million more AND with networks that back them up with dozens of talking heads to our 0.

ACC has done a fine job lately. Thanks to 2013 FSU title and the last 4 years, Clemson. But again, ACC has to consider revenue and strategy and is ESPN truly our partner.....equal partner? Again, count the SEC talking heads to ACC talking heads to try and get some perspective on that.

Let's see what the talking points are next season before worrying too much about ESPN showing its other primary product some love.

The question is not "AAC or ACC," because if Syracuse hadn't left, the American never would have been formed.

If Syracuse, Pitt, and West Virginia had stuck together, it's hard to predict the outcome. But in every scenario, Syracuse would have been in conference that indisputably dominated the most populous region of the country (i.e. more money), and would have been with all of its traditional rivals.

The Big East died when Villanova's "Duke plan" was pushed for football expansion over UCF by the basketball schools. That was the last straw in an already tenuous amalgamation being undone from both internal and external pressures. My understanding is that Cincy was on the wrong side of that debate as well. I know as a fall out, Pitt specifically notified the league presidents they would be exploring other conference membership opportunities if they arose, and Rutgers and WVU, and likely Syracuse, were exploring alternatives as well. There was no going back and each, including TCU, was going to exit given an opportunity to do so. And it is easy to predict the outcome of a hypothetical world where they stayed together because even the ESPN media deal that was turned down, or a better deal arrived from opening the rights up to network bidding, still wouldn't have made the Big East financially or perceptually competitive with the other power conferences deals with their corresponding networks, or perhaps more importantly, made the conference an iota more stable or resistant to raiding from the outside. It would only have delayed the inevitable and it would have been picked apart and slowly bled.

RE: Disney/ESPN’s acquisition of Fox underlines how Syracuse was right to move to ACC
The BIG question is: If SU, Pitt and WV had stayed together, along with Louisville, Cincy, USF, Rutgers and Uconn, would the BE have been chosen to be apart of the Power5, along with the ACC, BIG, PAC, SEC and B12? I dont think so, as the BE barely was able to stay apart of the BCS. To even be considered for P5, a conference had to be aligned with a major bowl like the Orange, Sugar or Rose etc...

SU, Pitt and WV were always playing at the top level of college fb whether they were BCS, BCA or Major Independents. So playing at the top level of college fb is not new to these schools, as the FSU fan seemed to indicate. They are not just glad to be apart of the P5, as they have always been at that level.

With the whole Power 5 concept being developed at that time, It seems to me that these schools knew that their best chance of continuing to play at the top level of college fb was to leave the BE since the BE was not able to align itself with a major anchor bowl. There were no guarantees that the BE was going to be part of the P5, unless they lured some P5 level schools from other conferences. That would have been next to impossible.

There were alot of SU and BE fans who felt that SU/Pitt/WV should have stayed in the BE and and tried to lure other schools, like TCU etc..to the league with a new tv deal up for bidding. With the dynamics of the new CFP and P5 being developed, there were just too many unknowns at the time to take such a risk.

I would have remained the BCS, at least until the BCS contract ran out. The Big East would have kept its AQ bid status based on the formula devised at the time to determine which conference qualified. Also, keep in mind this means the Big East would have taken the TV deal offered by ESPN, paying its members ~$13M a piece.
