I don’t believe that to be the case. In March 2015, Colorado State was 27-6 with an RPI of 29. They were not selected for the Big Dance. Their KenPom was 68. KenPom and other non-RPI rankings likely played a factor is the committee’s decision not to select Colorado State.
Colorado State played South Dakota State in the NIT (I believe) and lost by 10. Their final KenPom ranking was 72.
That’s just one example of when the committee considered more than just the RPI. I suspect that is increasingly the case as coaches make the case that the RPI is too primitive, and with the availability of more robust ranking systems.
Yeah because it was Colorado State. Well known fact that the committee goes back and forth betwweeen RPI and other factors to justify leaving non power conference schools out. There needs to be one set of criteria instead of multiple lists, so the committee can be held accountable.
If there was one system, we wouldn’t need a committee.
I do wonder if they look at the Massey Composite.
https://www.mratings.com/cb/compare.htm
A week ago UAB’s ranking varied from 77 to 226.
Exactly. If there was a set system, there would be no need for a committee (see BCS). A committee allows for non-statistical factors to come into play (injuries, locale, time of year/season, ejections leading to a loss, etc.)

RE: KenPom.com Update
If CUSA sucks before conference play then CUSA teams playing other CUSA teams would cause increased suckage in any overall ratings system.

WKU jumped ahead of MTSU and with their top 100 guy now eligible (he had 16 sat.) they might be considered a favorite to win the league.
UAB should be in the conversation. It would help if William Lee would start producing.
I think I saw a tweet that had kenpom predicting WKU & MTSU & ODU all going 14-4 and UAB 12-6.
I would hope we can get by with no more than 4-5 losses. Not 6. I see 3 more likely losses with a possible 4th. But we often have 1-2 WTF losses.
There is absolutely no reason for us to not be in the top 4.

I agree on everything you posted. Also I am glad that Coach Ehsan is playing Lavender, Gueye, and Smallwood more in order to lessen the chances of Cokley or Lee getting into foul trouble and to provide more manpower for defense down the stretch.

It’s easier to play those guys in blowouts. I’m willing to bet you will be herb harrisoning about Gueye after the next close game we play in.

Yes, KenPom now has the top three going 14-4 and UAB at 12-6.

I agree with you, MB. He is not forcing anything. He lets the game come to him. In the FAU game, Lee led the team in blocks and steals. In the FIU game, in which he only played 15 minutes, he had another block, steal, and 5 rebounds.

I have a feeling he is hurt the same way Davis said Beas was when he was a senior.
Its nicer to say than he just isn't any good.
Or in HaHa's case, admitting he has regressed.
Fewer shots is fine. But I don't see him rebounding or blocking shots as well as he used to either. But, I missed the last game and I have not been watching HaHa all game for the rest of the games.
Some of Nicks points & assists went to Scootie but I still think Nick should be scoring/shooting more. Maybe he will later in conference play.
As far as Smallwood & Gueye, if those guys play material minutes in a close game when nobody is in foul trouble, I'm probably going to have a duck over it. You cant tell me we don't give up a LOT when those guys are in. Gueye needs 15-40 pounds and he will improve. Thomas, well, he is maxed out and its just not good enough unless they think he helps in practice and with morale. But we cant afford 4 year practice players on scholarship.

Who does he have 5th, 6th and 7th and their projected records?
Id guess Marshall might be 5th now since Tech has been stinking up the conference.
But Tech will still be tough enough to beat us when we visit there unless we come to play. Pretty much ANY road game is the same. Think any game is easy and we will lose.

And as for Lavender, I agree he needs to play some but not a lot unless someone is in foul trouble because he just cant shoot from outside. And, its all but certain he wont return next year where Nate and Jalen will. (in all likelihood)

Lee had surgery this summer. I don't think he has fully recovered.

David Crane discussed Lee being hurt with both Eshan and Murry in the pregame. Eshan said him has been hurt and battling through. Talked about stretching and what not, but mainly that he needed rest. Murry talked about seeing him slow in practice and not being himself.

Ah yes! Herb Harrison! He was a freshman the year UAB finished 15-16 for the season, the second worst win/loss record in UAB history. They might as well have played Herb. It would not have mattered. They needed all the help they could get. Mike Davis did everything he could with Cameron Moore and Jordan Swing as his star players that season to win fifteen games and cough up sixteen losses. Did Mike Davis resign that year, or was he fired? Or did he go on to greener pastures? I forgot.
