Springfield’s Bryant Koback is transferring from Kentucky. Wants to be closer to family. If Mark Stoops does the right thing and grants his release to ALL teams, potential huge get for the Rockets.
Don’t follow HS ball but he didn’t have a carry for Ky this year per their web site. Injured? RS? Eligibility issues? If he takes a transfer year he’d basically lose two years. What were his HS numbers? I can see Stoops not wanting him at an SEC school but he’s likely to lose to us anyway, so....
Heard a report now that Stoops WILL release him to Toledo or EMU, even though both are on the schedule with Kentucky.
Springfield’s my HS alma mater so I followed his career there. Took over games. Really hoped he would have signed with Toledo instead of Kentucky. Wonder how much mutual interest there is now? A backfield of Seymour, Sims & Koback would look pretty good 3 years down the road.

6’1 and 230# at LB and he’s a preferred walk-on? Why not a scholarship here or somewhere? What’s the scoop here? From that picture he certainly looks the part...would be fantastic to add a another LB with size that somehow flew under the radar.
Kind of a head scratcher. His only other offer was a division II school. He only had 16 tackles last year.

Very bad injury his senior year as I recall but before that, he was considered to be all that. Page category maybe. What's left? Hopefully the hometown team will be able to give him an opportunity.

Thanks. So would he lose another year to transfer?

Looks like UT is continuing to offer 2018 JUCO defensive players. Reported on twitter offers to:
Kenny Turnier, DE from Ventura College.
https://247sports.com/Player/Kenny-Turnier-88278
Played HS ball in Miami. Originally enrolled at Oregon State, and was listed at a TE there. Transfered out to JUCO. Now bouncing back. Offers include Indiana & Buffalo.
Also:
Tre'von Gauno, CB/S from Dodge City College.
https://247sports.com/player/trevon-gauno-46043088
2015 HS grad from Louisiana. Has had a rough road to this point, according to this article.
https://www.recruitingnewsguru.com/gut-w...ion-check/
Offers include Wake Forest and Oregon State. Interestingly, 247sports shows him taking offical visits to Toledo and San Jose State on the same day. Would be one heck of a whirlwind tour.

RE: 2018 Official Football Recruiting Thread
So the former stud RB from Springfield is now considering UT. I find it really interesting the chess match between him and the Mike Warren. They were both supposed to got to Kentucky (thanks Ken Marrow), which I though was strange. Warren bails on Kentucky, comes to UT for a hot minute and then ends up in Cincinnati. Now the kid from Springfield wants to be closer to home and has UT, BG and EMU on his list and he mentioned UT as a top priority. I think we are loaded at RB for a few years, but if this kid comes even close to his pre injury HS stats, we could have another gamer in our backfield. He will have to sit out another year after RS this year. I almost hate to say this, but if he really wants to see the field, BG or EMU might be a better choice. We have Seymore, Thompson, Simms, McCrimmon and probably others. I'm not opposed to stockpiling talent, but there is only one football to hand around.

Believe me...this isn't a kid you want to take a "pass" on. I think in some respects, he was better than Warren. Plus, having him in the fold would mean we don't have to land a RB recruit in February, and from what I've heard, we have some stiff competition for the guys on our short list. I hope he ends up as a Rocket.

Definitely don't want to have to play against him every year. I can't believe he's even considering those two other schools. UT is the no-brainer choice. Want to become the next Kareem Hunt? Become a Rocket. If he's still got his mojo, he'll get his carries.

Trust me I'd take him. I'd rather he be a Rocket. I'm just saying, from a playing perspective, and getting carries, I can't imagine BG and EMU having stockpiled talent like us. Just playing devils advocate on his behalf. I followed his stats in HS and they were mind blowing.

BGSUX Freshman RB A.Clair, 3rd All MAC, had over 700 yds rushing with almost 7 yds a carry.
They also have a commit from a decent RB out of Ga, Rico Frye.

I hope this kid come back, Thompkins not a full time answer, Seymore showed he can have moments. Sims I hope is as good as advertised. Koback would be welcomed I'm sure.... our RB position not as good as once thought

Seymore is the next great back. Koback would be a nice addition, but there is no guarantee he is going to be great. He lost out to competition at Kentucky. Is he as good as he was before the injury?

Not sure he "lost out" at Kentucky, as he was a redshirt, which is becoming pretty common for incoming freshmen. We've had guys who redshirted who probably could have played and been as good or better than guys who did see the field. To me, the key question is has he recovered from the high school injury? Was THAT the reason he took a redshirt at Kentucky? Don't know. But, I would still take him if he wants to transfer here. Right thing to do & helps build community in UT's backyard.

I would definitely take him if he wants to come to Toledo. The more the merrier. Toledo has shown it can balance playing time for eveyone.

Apparently Toledo may be getting another Kentucky Transfer--QB Drew Barker who would be eligible right away.

About 10 different schools have expressed interest in his services, including Toledo. The experts are saying Cincinnati will be the likely choice.

Cincy?! They were 4-8 last year and lose a bunch of starters. Toledo returns one of the deepest WR corps in the nation, a perfect fit for a grad transfer QB like Barker. We need to schedule those bums in Cincinnati ASAP with a home-and-home.
I would also take in Wilton Speight (Michigan) as a grad transfer QB. It would be silly for one of these successful grad transfers to not take a serious look at Toledo considering all that we return for weapons for the new QB.

I think we have talent in the program and I'd like to see us groom our next record breaking QB from in house. I hope we don't go the grad transfer route. That would be a slap in the face to the guys who came here to compete.
