RE: Are we losers?
If the regular season offers no chance for an at large why would we expect anyone to care? The only reason to be invested this early in the season is to watch and see if we can build a resume strong enough for an at large. If we had beaten everyone other than Temple and VCU and then finished top 2 or 3 in CUSA (4 or 5 total losses) I think it was possible. With the WM loss we now have to run the ooc to have a chance. Otherwise, it’s somewhat meaningless. That’s why the free throw shooting loss in the burg hurts so bad.

The argument is because of our poor OOC scheduling we can't lose to the W&M's, FecesU, UMES, Richmond, part of our schedule. The Temple loss is not bad. W&M is a horrible loss and severely cripple any at large hopes we had. So...our season essentially boils down to the CUSA tournament. That doesn't mean we still should win as many games as possible.

That is not what the post above mine says. It says the loss to Wm changes nothing because we all believed we had to win the cusat to make it regardless. if we have reached the point that losing to Wm changes nothing about our season then I am out of words

You take offense at Drunkard's post (#35) because his words do not precisely track your own personal perspective. Yet you choose to ignore that it is your own preceding post (#34) that raised the issue of our now-dim prospects for making it to the NCAA tournament.

No, it is not "words" that you are out of. It is the ability to communicate in a logical and coherent fashion.

I, for one, don't agree. I like to watch for the incredible athletic prowess displayed by our extremely likable set of players. I like to watch to see how our coaching staff adjusts (or not) to the style of play of our opponents. I like to watch because a game at the Ted is far and away the best entertainment value in town.

If, at the end of the season, we somehow manage to earn ourselves a spot in the conversation for an at-large bid, all the better. But that is not why I watch this terrific team.

Does the question posed in this thread refer to our teams or our fans? Just asking.

Whatever you say. You can bold, tear apart my messageboard posts but we have still lost 4 of 5 against Wm since Jones taken over. Have not won a conference title or tourney since Jones has taken over. Have not made the NCAA tourney since Jones has taken over. All of this while playing in a bad league. I hope that was coherent enough for you.

It depends on who is a basketball fan, an ODU fan, or just want to be a fan of a winning team.

I love basketball, I sat through every game when we went 5-25. I watched every game yesterday completely ignoring the NFL because I just like basketball even though in reality, it doesn't matter who wins between Duke and Florida; they will both be in the tournament and may play again.

I'm an ODU fan. I sat through most of that 5-25 season as well, with the hope that cheering on and supporting the team would help keep them inspired enough to win more games and show my appreciation for the players. I want to see the team do well, and win championships and do well in the NCAA tournament. Watching them go down that road each season is a joy, but when an at-large bid possibility goes up in smoke so early in the season it does take some of the meaning out of the OOC part. Of course, I want to beat VCU and Richmond because of rivalry reasons, so thats interesting, but the rest just lost a lot of excitement. The entire CUSA season is basically 2 months of jockeying for position in the conference tournament that we have to win.

Id rather watch CUSA basketball than ACC basketball simply because the outcomes affect ODU, and how ODU does is what matters most to me (basketball wise) during basketball season.

That is consistent with pretty much any sport. The regular season is jockeying for position, but it doesn't matter until you get to the playoffs.

In a lot of sports, NFL, NBA and the P5 conferences the regular season is jockeying to get into and for seeding in the playoffs. Our conference season is simply for seeding in the CUSA tournament and has a minor effect on seeding and almost nothing to do with entry into the playoffs (NCAA tournament).

And it hurt more because with the win, our draft order dropped another few spots.

But it did feel good to beat the VaGiants

No. Not unless ODU stops trying which won't happen.

Losing happens., even to W&M.
