RE: MAC basketball Pomeroy rankings
NCAA now uses both systems for information. They really measure different things. RPI does not care if you won by 50 point or 1 point. Miami's 4 division 1 victories include a double over time win, an overtime win, a win where we were down a point and scored with 3 seconds to go, and a 4 point win. In RPI Miami gets full credit for winning those games, just like we had won by 20. In Pomeroy they are looking at all kinds of statistical data to measure differences between teams. Pomeroy would probably judge the 4 games that Miami won as basically 50/50 games, RPI would rank them as 100/0 games.

Miami's next game is at Missouri, which was #4 in RPI last night. We will probably get blown out, but it won't hurt our RPI (might even help it). If we do get blown out, that would be used against us in the Pomeroy rankings.

The other big factor in RPI is you are rewarded for road wins. Miami has 2 division 1 road wins and 1 neutral court win. So Yes, I think we are over rated in RPI, but probably under rated in Pomeroy. Winning away from home is tough and should be rewarded.

And today's Sagarins...

The level of agreement between these two ranking system is... 01-wingedeagle 01-wingedeagle

I just happened to note a few where the discrepancies are very dramatic : EMU, Ohio and Miami. Probably a bunch more.

RE: MAC basketball Pomeroy rankings
In comparing the conference to last season, I think the MAC is as good or better this year in teams 1 to 4, but the MAC just cannot match the depth of last year, particularly when it comes to defensive numbers. Below is a comparison of 2017 to date and 2016 final rankings for the top 12 offenses, defensives, and overall ranking. A little softer in the middle this year.

Someone with SPSS (or similar statistical package) ought to calculate the rank order correlations between the Realtime and Sagarins.

I'd guess it would be modestly positive, say .5 or .6 (in that range).

RE: MAC basketball Pomeroy rankings
Great days so far for the MAC, especially Ball State's win over Valpo.

Miami also took down Ft. Wayne, one of the better Summit teams in recent years. With NAIA Rio Grande up next we should be assured a winning record going into the MAC season (DePaul and OSU afterwards), I think every Redhawk hoops fan would take 7-6 going into conference play this year.

"Is" from over a month ago does not mean "is" now. Toledo "was" bad.

Finds quote from 1928 "the economy is booming." Reads it in 1931 and MBG " 07-coffee3 "...
