Washington thought so. Corporations will be the last entity to recognize the capacity and choices of the citizens. So yeah, ESPN believes we are that dumb. They've whizzed on us for three years and proclaimed it was raining!

Just rename it. Call the playoff what it really is. It’s “The Big Brand Name College Football Invitational”. Ditch the Selection Committee and use the seasons cumulative TV ratings to select the top 4.

Large corporations do a lot of consumer research. And, the broadcast media have ratings. They have proof that we really are that stupid collectively.

Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia and UCF... would love it if this happens. To see 2 P5 conferences get shut out would be awesome. If that happens then it will be guaranteed that next year we'll see an 8 team playoff where at least all the P5 champs of their conferences get a guaranteed slot.

The BCS worked just fine. The only problem with it was it needed more access for lower tiered conferences. But that could have been handled easily enough by adding the Cotton and Peach bowl. Which the did any way.

Four team playoff is better than two. The old system we would be arguing over Oklahoma and Georgia being able to play Clemson. If the 4 seed wins it all, it’s a Cinderella story.

RE: ESPN trying to validate the bogus playoff
Two things need to be done to make the CFP a static long lasting highly popular institution.

1) Expand the field to 8 teams. My preference at this point would be to make all 5 P5 conference champs AQ and the top G5 champ AQ with 2 wild cards selected by a Selection Committee.

2) The Committee needs to be revamped as its the biggest problem with the current system. The Committee needs to be a 10 man body with one representative from each FBS conference. Essentially, the Selection Committee needs to become a one-conference/one-vote council.

Those two moves would restore integrity and common sense to the current championship selection process. Effectively, it would create an avenue of access that eliminates subjective opinion--which is a HUGE problem with the current system. Any system where you can win all your games and not get into the playoff--is a system that is fundamentally flawed from the word go. By doing what I suggest, you create 6 slots of access that are ENTIRELY decided on the field of play. Additionally, in an effort to avoid the loss of the #1 and #2 ranked teams due to an upset along the way--the system still provides an avenue for deserving teams to make the playoff. In essence, its the best of both worlds. You can win your way in completely with on the field play (meaning every team holds its destiny in its own hands) and you still are guaranteed that the #1 and #2 ranked teams always make the playoff (which was how we did it for years under the BCS).

Again, the CFP will not give Autobids. The problem that will happen is someone will sue about doing a G5 championship instead of all conferences. This way it avoids that issue. Much like the NCAA committee, that helps prevent argument of anti-trust and leaving PSU at as P5 champ bolster their argument, CFP picks their top 4. For all those who want fairness, keep dreaming. Again, the Golden Rule. He has the gold makes the rules.

The G5 has never sued and isnt about to sue if they have actual legitimate access to the playoff. Besides, the G5 slot wont come to be because the CFP wants to give the G5 a slot. It will occur because P5 conferences will be tired of being left out for totally subjective reasons. More importantly, thats what the general public HATES about the system. If they make P5's AQ--they pretty much have to upgrade the G5 slot to a playoff slot. It wouldnt be that big of a deal at that point since you still end up with 3 more P5 teams making the playoff field than currently do.

If you do what I suggest--you have a great playoff system thats not to big, not too small, and not too subjective. It would be a fantastic system that the public would embrace unchanged for years.
