Monday morning QB
Why did Wilder go for it on 4th down with 3 minutes left in the half.... at the 50 yard line. The lead was not bad at the time..... we don't get it and they tack on another 7 before half-time.
What is the protocol for concussions in FBC/CUSA. Was Williams really "out" he was jumping around and looked pissed when they told him he wasn't going back in. Wasn't that before half-time? Why not evaluate him at half-time?

RE: Monday morning QB
Teams should go for it on 4th down about a thousand times more than they actually do it. The math says go for it.
Im not getting into questioning the coaches decision to sit a player with a possible concussion.

Ya, that's kind of silly honestly. "Meh, he looks ok. Go back out there and we'll see if you have a concussion at half."

Well, going for it with 3 minutes left in the half at the 50 yard line seems like the risk/reward is out of whack.
As far as the concussion, he was walking around briskly, mad.
It's not like he was looking groggy. Just wondering what the determining factor is. .. I mean did he not know what down it was, or what day it was?

Shrug. I think they're very much just overly cautious now a days, right fully so. If it's head to head they have to go through the protocol.
I'm with ya on the punt though. I know statistically it makes sense to go for it but it's tough.

I am sure there is a concussion protocol like in the NFL. Maybe he didn't pass the tests given to him on the sideline?

FWIW, we were on the MTSU 43 yard line. Not even a difficult decision.

I was coaching a company softball team and one of the kids on our team took a knee to the head. We asked him all sorts of questions about who is president. If he can drink alcohol. We never thought to have him solve math questions. This was years ago before we all knew better. I got a call at midnight from the kids mom (I say kid but he was 21 years old) and she was like "wtf happened?!" She said her son just showed up at home, several hours after we all left the fields, and he didn't remember going to work that morning. Didn't remember going to softball or how he got home. Huge lesson learned. He showed zero signs of anything. We had him sit on the bench the rest of the game as a precaution but you would have never known he was that severely concussed.

I once got clipped in the helmet by a 90 mph fastball. Knocked my helmet clean off and my butt to the ground. I popped right up. Swore that the ball barely got me across the bill. Coach checked me out, the ump checked me out, everything checked out fine... I then proceeded to trot to 3rd base. I had no idea why everyone was laughing so hard. It was the 1st inning of a double header... spent the rest of the day on the bench.

Haha dang. I played lacrosse and was running around the top of the crease and a forward threw it out to reset and I waa running looking up to catch it. Long stick stuck me. I don't have any recall of the hit. Woke up on sideline. Walked it off and then went back in a few minutes later because we only had 11 players. Today I would have never gone back in.
Come to think of it I've had several events like that. Larger objects tend to win when they meet. I've been the smaller object a lot.
Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

RE: Monday morning QB
On a personal note concerning concussions. My oldest brother got his first concussion playing basketball in the eighth grade with an elbow to the temple. He was concussed twice as an artillery officer in Viet Nam. At age 60 he had a concussion / head trauma in a car accident. Five years ago he was diagnosed with early onset dementia as a result of multiple head injuries. With a strong heart and lungs, two years ago, he died in an assisted living home. Head injuries are serious, with long term effects.
Sitting SW after he took a head to head blow can in no way be second guessed, regardless of how ok he appeared on the sideline. At this point, he should be closely monitored, and if this happens to him multiple times over the next several years, he should be sat down permanently.

One of MTSU's QB's football career was ended due to too many concussions. Seeing how Williams is just a freshman and is supposed to be our QB going forward, I can understand the staff being as cautious as possible to make sure he is okay.

I believe having one concussion makes it easier to receive more in the future. Can't be too careful.

Are sure it was a concussion? On the radio at half time they said he landed awkwardly on the ball. In the replay of that play SW goes to the sidelines and yells and drops the F bombs if I'm reading his lips right. I haven't watch the second half since the game but I don't recall him standing on the sidelines during the 2nd half.

He took a helmet to helmet hit near the end of the half according to the replay I saw.

I believe the above referenced action was preceeded by the coaching staff stating, "You're done!"
