TN Coaching Search
Been reading RockyTopTalk, Football Scoop, Gridiron Now, CBSSports, etc.
Yesterday the big news was Leach was coming to TN. It sounds like he has denied that. Doesn't mean anything this time of year, but a part of the puzzle.
There is supposedly going to be announcement today or tomorrow. One fan theory is that it is Gruden after all and announcing today means he can have one last MNF, then a press conference Tuesday. I'm not high on Gruden but if he came at least we could get it out of the way for good.
Other thoughts have been Mullen or even Peterson, but at this point who knows. Currie has done much better about keeping a lid on things than last go around.
Another surprise name: Frost as a TN option.
Fall back: Greg Schiano... We like our TB Bucs here, apparently.
I'll try to post updates as I hear more, but since I am in Central time, news could come while I'm at church today. Feel free to update for me!
Also, good luck to all the other SEC schools. I think it will benefit all of us to have an infusion of good coaching. Except Florida (please hear this as good natured ribbing, not being.mean!)
Update: New names I just heard tossed in the ring: Mack Brown, Pruitt, and the old name: Petrino.

Gruden is a huge smokescreen.
I know, he was used five years ago to keep the dogs off of Bielema ‘s trail.

The word out of the those press members that cover the SEC is that Greg Schiano is now the top candidate. So strike one on Gruden. The same sources are expecting Mullen to be the new coach at Florida by the end of today. So, possibly strike two on Mullen. Look's like Tennessee is taking it's third swing at Schiano.

Schiano could prove all of us wrong, and I'm rooting for a winning team, but dang this is not an exciting hire.

I don’t feel as though Schiano is an upgrade over Butch. I wanted someone offensively minded, like Leech. I hope someone in K’ville at least asked Sumlin if he still wanted to coach next year.

I can deal football wise with not getting our top picks, and yes someone like Peterson was probably out of realistic reach, but the moral stuff is my concern. I want a clean guy. I'm sure there were some decent G5 coaches who don't have the Penn State scandal stuff attached to them.
Again, if this really is our pick, I hope he does well, and I hope the rumors are not true about the Penn State stuff.
If this true, it is going to get ugly for TN.

Tennessee fans are livid Schiano is a serious candidate.
Senators are tweeting. WWE wrestler Kane tweeted against
The rock on campus was spray painted “Schiano covered up child rape at Penn State”
It’s ugly, nasty out there

As an Alabama fan, I would love for Schiano to be in at Tennessee... I don't see him beating Saban before he retires.

RE: TN Coaching Search
Does anyone have any inside news about the Tennessee coaching search? Did they give Matt Campbell from ISU much of a look? I think he would be a much better hire than Schiano but since they are announcing a hire already I don't think Campbell had an interview. Was there no interest on Tennessee's part or did Campbell indicate he wasn't interested?

I don’t have any inside info but it seems that Currie allowed himself to be seduced by the Gruden idea and threw all his eggs into that basket. The backup would have been Mullen, but UCLA threw everything out of whack. UF’s first choice goes to Westwood, the Gators get Mullen and UT ends up SOL. In the scramble they end up in the same situation they weee in hiring Butch, desperate to have someone tell them yes. My guess is that Campbell wasn’t on the radar.

What a mess.
Tennessee should just hire Jeremy Pruitt but their ego won’t let them

How about Seth Litrell? North Texas 1-11 in 2015, this year 9-3?
Or there is a guy on here who has pushed Bill Clark, and I felt like he was trolling, but at this point, why not take a guy who has faced Alabama's wrath and won? Candle from Toledo? Frank Solich?Harsin? Tedford? Rocky Long at SDSU?
I think this is the type of coach we will have to look at.

I wouldn't expect much from Tennessee's current administration to think outside the box...

The whole thing has been botched.
Either the cost of success just got a whole hell of a lot higher or it will be a few more years of somebodies best, though ineffective, effort.

Why would anyone want Kansas State's A.D.? Currie didn't have to make a major hire at K State because Snyder was/is an institution there. Tennessee needed a veteran of many tough hires as an A.D.. So yeah, the issue is systemic at Knoxville.

It’s difficult to imagine this being worse for UT right now.

He was supposed to be part of the Gruden hire and come in as UT's top recruiter.
