RE: ODU @ MTSU
We have given up 300 yards rushing against their #4, #5, and #6 RBs. Pathetic.

I listened in to parts of ECU's postgame call-in show. Their fans kinda think of themselves as SEC-esque, and I'll say this, some of those calls would have been at home on Finebaum's show.
ECU, for those unaware/uninterested, finished a 3-9 season that started with a 34-14 home loss to JMU and ended today with a 70-13 loss to Memphis and had precious little go right in between. Their signature win was either at home against four-win Cincinnati or on the road against three-win UConn. That's 6-18 in their past two seasons.
And that's a program that I think most of us can agree is one we'd like to see ODU become more like in the years ahead.
In other words: **** happens; you either flush it and spray the bathroom with Febreeze or leave it in the toilet like it's a work of art and let it permeate your whole house.
I wouldn't mind being like ECU as far as their stadium and fan support goes. But that's about it as far as I'm concerned.

That's plenty, isn't it? I mean, if you have the stadium and the fan support, the dice are loaded in your favor for recruiting, which leads to success on the field if you don't hire a remedial potted plant for a head coach.

No worries...Giles will come in with his box scores about how we weren't that bad today. Get ready to have your day brightened.

I agree with a lot of what you say here, but where ECU is 6-18 ODU is 15-10 over two years. Not fantastic, and certainly a disappointing year after the pre-season hype, but to me one 5-7 season doesn't rate wholesale firing of coaches. There are PLENTY of teams that would look at that record with envy. Charotte. UNC. K-State.
With that said, short leashes. Fundamental changes in the way fundamentals are taught. And if, after that, the results on the field are similar, then...let's see how thick our billfolds are and who we can entice.
But not this season.

RE: ODU @ MTSU
I can't help but think our 10-3 record last year is the aberration. Soft schedule with an experienced QB. Most of this seasons problems were evident last year and maybe even the year before. Seems to me the fundamental problem is our schemes and philosophy. Wilder is just as responsible as Nagy for the soft zone D. We've played it for several years now and it doesn't look like Nagy has it in him to change and become more aggressive. Similarly, what makes anyone think Scott will abandon his most dependable play? The guaranteed 3yard loss screen? Todays color guy pointed out every single deficiency we've all seen for 2-3 years now.
Our team was not terribly out talented today. We were completely and utterly out coached and I don't see that changing next year unless we have new coaches.

RE: ODU @ MTSU
All I'll have to remember this off season is visions of other teams playing man to man D and 6-7 defenders blitzing our QB play after play combined with our total inability to get a 1st down on third and short. These are not talent issues. They are the result of far to predictable play calling and a passive D.

This....plus a decent set of WR's and a soft CUSA schedule.

This is right in line with what I have been telling my wife while have been watching recent ODU football games. We just aren't aggressive on either side of the ball and that is all about coaching.

Just hard to be aggressive with a Freshman QB, a slow OL, and DB's that are slow and small.

I can appreciate 757 calling me out on that, not my best moment, but I'm not sure I get your point.

Please don't be so literal. 7-5 would have been the exception just as easily. Point stands we do not have adequate coaching.

I mean sure... but perspective is also considering the league that we play in. We have had some incredibly embarrassing losses. Today was just another one to add to the list. FBS my ass.

Yeah no sugar coating it. Played like **** today. Next season, if there are npncoaching changes, is hot seat central.
