RE: Campbell
Campbell was a -18 when he was in the game. And, after watching the game, I know why. They ran their stuff way better without the ball sticking. And, Burke MORE than made up for his departure late in the game. Taylor did a good job on him. This was a good win. The Camels will win 20 games...book it.

When you consider UNCW lost the best coach in the CAA, four starters and every incoming recruit, it makes the win seem even greater.

RE: Campbell
This was a fun win to watch. We of course need to protect the perimeter a lot better, and it was a bit disappointing after the way Davidson shot the 3 ball that we didn't get out quicker to defend the 3, especially in the 2nd half. Granted, our guards were trying to help out on the boards and thus were hedging towards the hoop a bit, but this is definitely the area that needs to be our # 1 focus.

When our 2nd unit gains more experience and confidence, we're going to be deadly. Estime's confidence in particular grew over the course of the game, which was nice to see.

I echo Hoops' concern about keeping too many starters off the court at the same time. My suggestion would be to put Richmond at the 3 to start games and have Jaylen get heavy minutes off the bench, where he'd "lead" the 2nd unit. Just a thought.

Jaylen will likely stay a starter on this team-he's been good and his defense is improving. Richmond is more of a 2G/combo, but has potential to defend well. Taylor has really good potential as a defender. This team has some talent.

Clemmons is a scorer for sure but they did seem to share the ball better without him on the court . I would much rather play them without him playing, the kid is really hard to stay in front of and he seems to understand when to go to the basket and kick or finish. I like him a lot but he is not a one man show there by any means. Its a good win against a solid team.

Agree on Fornes. Seems like the most complete wing we have on both ends of the court.

Good points. Maybe Taylor could lead the 2nd unit instead, since he's a combo guard.

Either way, I think the big keys to this entire season will be getting Estime and Kalina developed. If both of those guys can contribute big minutes that gives us a ton of flexibility.

The question is when do we get them in? I know Elmore was hurt but i don't remember Kalina playing a ton Saturday. I don't imagine we blow many people out.

Kalina missed Saturday night's game for showing up late to a team meeting.

Taylor has been killing it so he needs to keep starting right now. He was a monster the other day on both ends. Richmond will get his minutes. It's not who starts, but who finishes.

Don't think we will see a "first" and "second" unit. More likely starters will play 70% of the game and reserves about 30%. The key is to assure we have at least 3 starters on the court at all times if possible, and in dire circumstances 2.

No reason to hold any of our best players on the bench to lead the second team. We're not deep enough to do that. Throw the best we have together at the same time, then sub them out to keep their legs fresh but no more. Our rotation will likely be even tighter than last year. Elmore could make a huge difference if he could return with his size. After knee surgery, who knows?

That was my point as well during the original statement. There was a time during that bad stretch where Campbell went from 7 down to 8 up where we had Fornes, CaCock, Talley and Taylor all on the bench. Simply put, that CAN'T happen

RE: Campbell
I'm sorry, but we have a lot of new faces on this team. The only way to see what combinations can work is to try them. That needs to be done now when the season is young and well before conference play. I'm sure McGrath is taking notes. It may be his first HC job, but he does have a pedigree. I have some of the same concerns, but I will give him time to work it out.
Plus, expectations should not be as high as last year. This team is a work in progress. And I am hoping for positive improvement as the season goes. Just don't know if we will get to where some seem to think we should be. This may be more of a rebuilding, not a reloading year.

Most likely we will not get Elmore back til mid January. May be more worthwhile to redshirt him, depending on how the season is going.

Fair point, especially if he would be less than 100% at that time.

I want him to play. There's a lot of ball from mid January on and we could have a shot with 1 more big.

I think it really depends how far along he is. If he's not close to 100% at that point, why chance re-injury?

I tend to agree with you. I only want Elmore back if he is 100%. Would like to see him play for us for 3 more years. Sure would hate to have him come back too soon and reinjure himself. I could picture him Jeantal and Cacok on the floor at the same time. They will be nasty!
