It's been fun, but we better call a truce. The proverbial agree to disagree. Attalla doesn't like our little debate going on.

We recently lost a 2019 to MTSU and a 2018 to Xavier.And a 2018 to Oregon.
Not all losses are bad. Got to swing.
I suspect we will be shopping the mid year and end of year transfer market. And the Juco big men market for 2018.
Verbal C shows NO outstanding offers left for 2018. Although I'm nearly certain that is incorrect. They show 1 open spot and it could easily be 2-3. (Hopefully no more than 3)

Edit. we do show interest in 1 juco guy for 2018. Butler 6-8,230.Pensacola. Weak stats last year. 15+11 in 3 games this year. But the team is 0-4.

Chukwuebuka 'Jude' Akabueze

I watched his YouTube as a junior in high school highlights. He is a big guy, although I noticed he runs up and down the middle of the court about 99% of the time. He isn't exactly the fastest runner on his team because everyone else was blowing right past him. Just sayin'. He has a lot of room for improvement.

This is recruiting heaven by comparison.

I was around for the Davis recruiting crap, believe me.
But, I was thinking about something last night. How much better would William Lee be if he played for Davis ?
Compare where Cameron Moore was to what he became.
Its not exactly an apples to apples comparison, I know.
Moore wouldn't have become half the player he became if he was allowed to play outside & jack up 3s all the time.
And say what you want about Davis, I've said it too. But his teams defended.

A f'n men. Don't understand the Davis hate. Some think Haase was better because he won one f'n tourney game

We've had as four stars: Vaden,Sharpe,Toney,Mayfield,Kinnard, Ellis, Brown, Lee, and maybe Bassett.

On paper the 2007 team is the best I've seen on and off the court followed by 2009 or 2010. This team is a legit fifth or sixth behind the sweet sixteen team another Anderson team but that's past ten years. So maybe this team is third being under ten years. Mr Ponder was right on the decline since Davis. I would take the 13 best Davis recruits against the best 13 from Haase or Eshan anyday. I mean he has been dancing more than UAB as of late.

Also how well are we playing since we've lost Hak, for those who thought he was great. Offense seems more fluid with better shooting. Also better in transition. Maybe even better defensively.

I also think we add Boyce into the 10 man rotation easily and not play one of the freshmen bigs. Would love to see who we get for the 13th scholarship (big, big guard, or shooter).

Oh yeah also Ken Cooper and George Drake.

Don't think we have an open scholarship, unless we take McCoy's. At this point he could possibly keep it and redshirt and finish with Darling leaving two for 2020 (a great shooting backcourt). That leaves us jumping on 2019, hopefully we don't pull that crap Haase tried in 2014 fab freshman thing and just get good players on any level.

But if we did recruit 2018 I would look at Huntsville,Ala. Prep freshman Anthony Mason Jr. He only has a FIU offer but 6'10 220 could be what we need in the future or a 6'6 guard like Isaac Chatman from Cordova,Ala.

When guys his size fall to our level, there are reasons. Still, he is the kind of guy that could be very good in a couple of years.
I never expected Coke to be as good as he was fairly soon. Most guys can develop over 2-4 years.
And you can't teach 6-9.

I would wager that McCoy was not promised a 2-3 year scholarship. It seems more like, we had it and it wasn't going to be used so we offered it for a year with the possibility but not guarantee of it continuing. His juco stats just don't say D-1 scholarship.
As mentioned, we have 4 guys that could graduate early and might find greener grass elsewhere. All 4 are not leaving. 1-2 might.
I was going by what verbal commits said as for open scholarships. I did not count.
I believe the number is 13 and redshirts count.

I would be displeased if we took Smallwood off scholarship. He has done everything he can for the program and doesn't deserve that kind of an exit.

I agree especially his senior year. Don't really like taking McCoy's.

RE: Boyce Signing Ceremony at 12 noon today
Regardless of the player or the sport played, an athletic (or scholastic) scholarship is always for only one year. It is renewed annually if the student athlete has pleased the coaches by his school work and team play. There must always be attrition over time in full scholarship sports in order to sign a full slate each year. Usually these are by transfers, quitting the team (and sometimes the school) or by mutual agreement to continue as a "walk on".

Most FB programs sign at least 25 per year which means 125 every 5 years (5 years to play 4) so at least 40 must be eliminated over that span to stay at 85 which is the maximum every fall.

Happens frequently. It just does not get the media attention. Its usually explained in advance that it was not permanent.
No D-1 Program that wants to be competitive can afford to keep 2 guys on scholarship who have little chance of helping on the court.

It can be a win-win. Who wants to ride the pine for 4 straight years?
UAB has historically sent guys packing who did not contribute much to the program. Often it is indeed a mutual decision. Recruiting mistakes happen. You have far less room for error if 2/13ths of your scholarships are charity cases.
