2017 MLB Awards finalists revealed
Don't really think any major surprises...

Rookie Of the year-
AL- Judge, Benintendi, Mancini
NL- Bellinger, Bell, DeJong

Manager of the year-
AL- Francona, Hinch, Molitor
NL- Black, Lovullo, Roberts

Cy Young-
AL- Kluber, Sale, Severino
NL- Kershaw, Scherzer, Strasburg

MVP-
AL- Altuve, Judge, Ramirez
NL- Goldschmidt, Stanton, Votto

Only real interesting one was in the NL MVP to see who was knocked out. The Colorado guys knocked out.

Think it's
Judge, Bellinger for ROY
Molitor, ??? for MOY- I'll say Lovullo
Kluber,Kershaw for Cy Young
Judge, Stanton for MVP

Yeah, a little homerish, but Goldy was consistent and actually played in meaningful games. The ball is juiced, and the Marlins weren't a factor.

Goldy fell apart though in September. I just don't see Goldy winning it.

I think especially given the 2 Colorado guys didn't make it that the voters didn't care about team performance as much. You have not only Stanton but Votto in top 3.

Anybody have Judge’s home road splits? They are just as bad or worse than Arenado’s or Blackman’s yet they ignore the short right field porch for him and hammer any Rockie.

Not really though...
Judge:
home .312/.440/.725 1.165
away .256/.404/.531 .935

Arenado
home .336/.392/.644 1.036
away .283/.355/.531 .886

Blackmon
home .391/.466/.773 1.239
away .276/.337/.447 .784

So Judge was better than Arenado both home and away and Blackmon had the extreme stats that kill guys from Colorado.

RE: 2017 MLB Awards finalists revealed
Cy Young awards finally come on Wednesday. The NL one will be really interesting to watch. I know we talked about the AL race and the presumed innings gap with Sale/Kluber(it really was amazing how close Kluber got to Sale in the innings race)... Well in the NL- Scherzer had a good 25 more innings than Kershaw and Strasburg both. How much extra credit does that give him in the voting? Did it impact things at all?

RE: 2017 MLB Awards finalists revealed
good blog on Sale...
http://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red-sox/...-next-year

and what the Red Sox have to figure out
March/April 2.74
May 2.48
June 2.74
July 2.76
August 3.44
September/Oct. 3.84
his ERA's since 2012 per month

Also-
Since he became a full-time starter for the Chicago White Sox in 2012, Sale has posted a 2.70 ERA, held opponents to a .206 average and given up 0.78 homers per nine innings in 99 starts before the All-Star break. In 81 second-half starts, his ERA has risen to 3.41, opponents have batted .244 against him, and he has allowed 1.15 homers per nine innings.

I'd be curious to know any other guys that are as extreme like this.

Amazing to think like they said back after July 26, he was much more likely to win the MVP than he was lose the Cy Young.

Well he definitely would be the easy pick for the Cy Young if Kluber didn't go total supernova

Not that it matters, but I thought Bud Black would receive more votes - certainly more than Roberts who pretty much doomed his candidacy with that late August to late September shitshow.

If you look at it over time, the TT Tracker has been remarkably accurate. If anything, it underestimated Scherzer's domination of the vote this year, but that's a nit. I was happy to see Jansen finish 5th (which TT wasn't close on because of his strong emphasis on IP).

you would think so. saw this incredible factoid:
Max Scherzer has 2,149 strikeouts and a 1.119 WHIP in his career. Below is a list of pitchers who best him in both categories.

Pedro Martinez*
Juan Marichal*
Sandy Koufax*
Walter Johnson*
Eddie Plank*
Christy Mathewson*
Rube Waddell*

Nice group. To be fair, I think Scherzer was probably already in. If he was to fall apart next season and not be able to make it back, MAYBE there'd be an argument against him. There aren't many 2 time CY winners not in the HOF (and at least one of them will probably be voted in eventually), but there is only one with more than 2 who isn't in.

Yeah if he fell apart and was never the same, he might not get elected. But at this point all he really needs to do is decline gracefully and he'll be fine.
