RE: What's the future use of Birmingham's Legion Field?
Legion Field is very suitable for the needs of the two participating teams (assuming the lack of hot water for showers has been addressed). It has a modern good quality playing surface, good lighting for TV and night games and suitable locker rooms.
99% of its complaints are for fan amenities like bathrooms, concessions, parking staff and lack of hand rails for the steps (OK that last one was for people with limited mobility like me). We hope any new facility will answer these complaints.
If a new smaller capacity stadium is built, Legion Field may continue to be the venue of choice for the Classic and the B'ham Bowl game so it may have to be maintained for them. We won't know until a choice must be made.

The city is run by idiots (yeah, I know, I know) if it spends from $100k to $800k a year to maintain LF for one game after the BJCC stadium opens. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Future use of Legion Field? I imagine the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force are always looking for new practice targets. I wouldn't mind seeing a JDAM dropped on that place...

IF (note caps) the Classic and B'ham Bowl want to continue to use Legion Field, the city would be less than smart to send them elsewhere to play. Since both games have had very good attendance, the City may simply be thinking they are spending money to make more money.
The City now has a new Mayor and several new City Council persons so predicting their future decisions on a new venue (or any other issue) is difficult at best. BOTH the MPF and BJCC Stadium remain possibilities until a binding decision is made.

Set for the Post Apocalyptic world movie, Zombie Bowl 2027. 80,000 zombies are tricked into thinking their favorite team is playing their cross state rival. Once they are all in the stadium, Boom !

They got 4 years to pass the deal hope the investors move in, and move action. Would ' t leave it to them (the Mayor and guest) they have proved they'll just sit their and talk about it with no action. (Hate to call them no action Jackson). Have much more faith in the investors of the City then the officials of the city of Birmingham.

No one but the City Council can spend city money on anything. Obviously they listen and pay attention to city business leaders, the BJCC and UAB, but under the law the final decision remains theirs. The Mayor can ask, conjole, beg, threaten or plead, but he cannot spend a dime of city money on his own.
In the election of 1962, the voters chose to replace the City Commission form with the "weak mayor - strong council" form of city government and that is what we have today. The city has elected some strong in personality individuals as Mayor, but never legally gave them more power.

IF Atlanta was in Alabama operating under the 19th century style Constitution of 1901 [designed primarily to set up a state government under the 1896 "separate but equal" ("segregation forever") Plessy Case Decision], which gave all power to the state legislature, it is likely it too would be like B'ham. Atlanta has the advantage of being in GA and being the state capitol as well. If memory serves, GA also wrote a new more modern state Constitution in the last 50 years.

Thanks for your knowledge, So their keeping the keep. Wasn't aware the law keeps away private investors in a free society. Guess that's the great thing about Alabama.

WIAT: A Backseat Conversation with Mayor-elect Randall Woodfin
http://wiat.com/2017/11/15/a-backseat-co...l-woodfin/
The incoming mayor says he is working to make transparency a big part of his administration. He says he wants to move on some of the city’s missed opportunities.
“If you use the stadium or the dame[sic] as an example, I’ve made it so clear, this will not be something that we talk about for four years,” Woodfin said. “We will do it or we will move on and talk about something else.”

Tad Snider, the director of the BJCC, is a featured speaker at a Birmingham commercial real estate luncheon on Friday. Maybe he'll let out some more details.

You know that's great, they show the lessor side of the city that's always important for improvement reasons, but they should show the greater side of the city as well to show . I''ve been to the city of Birmingham and theirs so much to be proud of as well. Within these parts and the upper side. I've been to the supposedly worst sides of Birmingham and the Best sides of Birmingham and have never seen anything like that Before.
