Will USM ever leave CUSA?
All the old CUSA members left but Southern Miss stayed. And I don't think the conference really benefits them, do you guys see USM leaving anytime soon?

Someone needs to want them, so it really isn't up to them.

Leave to go where? The AAC isn't a better conference. C-USA could have 11 teams with winning records by the end of the season.

It is not about schools having good athletic programs, it is about TV sets, airports, and “potential”...Why else would anyone want South Florida, Central Florida, Tulane, and Charlotte in their league?

Well, maybe when they start beating the newbies for conference championships someone will want them but until then they will need to settle for backhanded compliments from trolls.

No.

This conference is improving. Southern Miss is a good program, and they are competitive in C-USA West. Personally, I think C-USA West is the most interesting division in the entire G5. It is very likely that 5 of the 7 western division teams will finish bowl eligible. Aside from a P5 invitation, I see no good reason why Southern Miss would want to leave.

RE: Will USM ever leave CUSA?
Let me speak as a USM fan instead of other programs speaking for us.

You give us a way out, an offer to the AAC or anywhere not the Sun Belt, and we’ll leave immediately. Our fans are frustrated. We don’t like CUSA and we’re sick of startups passing us by. After the last round of losses, our fan support has dropped dramatically, both butts in the seats and money being given. The moment we get out of here and show that we’re making moves to improve ourselves, a lot of that money will come back.

We would love to join the AAC. Is it some promised land? By no means, but it is a conference filled with teams we have history with that our fans recognize and enjoyed playing. If we were offered a spot, we’d take it automatically.

From a football perspective, this is absolutely absurd even for the biggest CUSA fan. It’s mid-November and they have 3 ranked teams (UCF, USF & Memphis), all of which will end up with 10 win regular season records and any of would win our conference hands down. After that, then they have 3 other teams (Houston, Navy & SMU) that would likely win CUSA this season.

Here is a case study. If a CUSA team runs the table, where do they play their bowl? If you have to worry about another conference having an undefeated team or even a 1-2 loss team......then you have your answer.

Just as absurd in basketball. Any of programs would go to the AAC if offered. I don't see them expanding anytime soon so an offer would likely mean they were raided which would change the landscape. The only downside I'd see is having to move to thier message board. Those guys ain't right.

I disagree completely. UCF's biggest non-conference win was over a Maryland team that is going to finish 4-8. USF's biggest non-conference win was over an Illinois team that is going to finish 2-10 and UM's biggest win is over a UCLA team that could finish 4-8. It is just the way things fell this year. Our conference is top to bottom much better this year. We should take note of what the AAC is doing and schedule lower tier non-conference teams.

USM and every other school in C-USA would leave in a heartbeat to join the AAC and at least one C-USA school would leave in a NY minute to join the MWC. But invites are hard to come by.

At least one USM poster has suggest a new conference composed of USM and nearby schools including McNeese State, so the frustration level for USM fans must be very high.

I guess wherever UCF would play their bowl at the end of the season. UCF has the same worries. They have teams with 2 losses ranked ahead of them and could possibly have teams with 3 losses ranked ahead of them on Monday.

Me thinks CUSA and the Sunbelt should both disband and a new conference of the best markets and best teams of both conferences should form

That issue was entirely created by Southern Miss. If upstarts are passing you by, then Southern Miss isn't doing what they need to do to improve in the current college football landscape. A change in G5 conferences won't fix that.

C-USA is a great conference for Southern Miss. And I think C-USA West is a perfect G5 division for USM. Southern Miss, like the rest of us, just needs to step up their game.

There is nothing USM can do. Our media market is what it is. It certainly doesn't matter how good your team plays on the field. Maryland and Rutgers both got Big 10 invites.

By choice and not by choice....there's your answer

Now you have to look at the reasons behind those two answers and you will see nothing has changed. So to answer your last question of anytime soon.

Those schools did not want to be in a conference with S. Miss even if S. Miss wanted them. When something change you can bet the farm there's not a conference member not in the AAC today...

that wont be trying for the open spot

Other than a history of playing in a conference with those schools....nothing has changed in a better way for S. Miss. And that history was not important to stop all of those schools from running away and not wanting to be in the same conference.

So the real answer to anytime soon...it will depend on a merge of two conferences splitting off....

not anytime soon
