That said, I was reading about their class yesterday and they're in on some high level 3* kids. They're likely to increase their average recruit score soon - perhaps as early as today. It's already slightly higher than ours. All of which means the next coach they get is going to be playing with a full deck as it's likely, Mr Frost, is going to be too hot if a commodity to stay in Orlando much longer.

AAC recruiting is up across the board for sure tho. Right now UC, USF, and UCF are leading the way.

I know Fickell is used to having pretty much a whole class locked up as early as possible from where he came from. And I know recruiting has changed in the last few years. But from what I remember Tubs seemed to land usually a couple of decent surprises every year at the end right before or on signing day. Even Fickell seemed to do it last year with Ben Hutch, jarell white, and mike warren. I hope we aren’t just filling these last few spots just to fill. With that said I really trust fickell with recruiting but any ideas on this?

As poor of a game coach at this stage in his career, I have complete confidence in his recruiting. He leaves no stone unturned.

I am ok with this. Scott feels like a bust to me.

Bummer. Oats will be the last shoe to drop.

I said it earlier in this thread but I expect the last 5 to be like the TE from up in Northern Ohio....under the radar guys who are raw or projects to switch positions.

Lot of Ks in the late innings.

Do they still have the highest rated class in the AAC?

Yeah. UCF has an higher average rated class (15 recruits), but we currently have the highest rated class.

UCF is about the only school who could pass us with some decent drops going their way. USF has maxed out and I don't see Houston doing it unless they pick up another Ed Oliver type.

Just making sure. Certainly seems to be moving in the right direction despite "lots of K's in the late innings."

It's likely a lil early to know either which way on this.

I think the only person we're 100% holding a spot for is, Mr. Oats. Other than that, i'd say we're holding out for kids with high(er) ratings/ ceilings. I suspect we'll get a surprise, or 2, a la Ben Hutch. But we won't know about that until we approach either of the signing days.

RE: Football Class of 2018
There will be guys we will be in on who won't pop up on the radar until December/January. One of the reasons will likely be due to the fact that there are always coaching changes around this time and guys verbally committed elsewhere will change their commitment once the old staff leaves town.

Second, I do think there will be more movement than usual now that there is an early signing period in December. There will be recruits who will question their commitment to a particular school after the coach there tells them they don't want them to commit early. Recruits will ask themselves whether that particular staff is looking to recruit over them. Definitely will set up opportunity for this staff to swoop in on couple guys.

Third, don't be discouraged if this staff does pick up a diamond in the rough or two. That's a not a bad thing--- what is bad is when half of your class is made up of these type of guys (ala the last staff).

Looks like Old Miss is not thinking they will get Oats. One of their guys just Crystal balled Oats to Ohio State.

Maybe OSU finally realized that Gant isn't the player they thought he was...

Oats changed his picture on 247 in near synchronicity with this cb. He is OSU bound.

Isn't this where UC fans say something like he isn't that good or that we shouldn't take him when he gets tired of sitting and wants to transfer?

I'm beginning to wonder when the decommitments are going to start. Almost every one of our guys has better offers.

Considering we haven’t closed on anyone of significance in months I fully expect it

My fear as well. It's a long time until December or February.

He's always had an offer. Are you saying there's a new development, and that he it is now rumored he's a take for OSU?

Sidenote, Ole Miss was never happening. If/ when he gets allowed to commit to OSU that's where he's going. This has always been the case. For that to happen wouldn't be a miss/ K by the staff. It's been his dream school since Day 1. A miss would be if he goes to like UK. We're in the game because of location, and his mother likes UC (she went there). Also, CLF has known him for a while from his time at OSU

If Oats did get word that he can commit to OSU (no idea where this has been reported) then I'm sure we move down our list to another "recruit of insignificance" in Bolden. Im betting he pulls the trigger this time around.

My opinion is that it is not commit able yet. If it was I think he would have committed over the weekend. I thought it was funny that an Old Miss guy would just pick him to OSU and not look at the big picture. OSU has 3 LB already I don't think they take a 4th unless it is February and they have all their other spots filled.

I don't know if this is relevant anymore or not but:

Torrance Gibson, former Ohio State Buckeye, back with JUCO team -- this time at receiver: Report

If the coaches think he has his act together, I'd still welcome him with open arms even if he isn't the answer at QB.

I be t this was his issue - the coaches wanted him to become a WR and he needed time to accept reality. Regardless, if he works toward his degree (and receives it) and wants to be part of the team, I would take him.
