I believe that was an 8 o clock game. A little easier to get to the game on time and didnt have the wreck on Hampton.

You know they have really toned down the rheotoric on the sellout streak. People still arent happy, lol. Now they are being accused of hiding a non sellout.

Those corporate guys sometimes have a tough time giving away Friday night tixs after a 4 game losing streak. I know my group we had a few go unused. Some kids playing HS football. I thought the crowd filled in better and by the end of the 1st qrt, was pretty good, very loud and engaged. The traffic was the worst I even seen 1-1/2 hour to go what takes usually takes 15 minutes. I know one couple who didn't make it and turned around. That caused a lot of the late arrivals, in the after work crowd.
We came in the back way through Park Place and had no issues at all.

I've been curious on this for the past several weeks. I'll be interested how they play this out.

They ought to just drop it, but my husband made mention that it may be making the corporate donors who are buying up the extra tickets happy.

I just wish the corporate donors had a better sense for what is and isn't important to the program

RE: Sellout streak
Maybe, just maybe there is a reason why we make it a point in working for (and yes, in announcing) sellouts at each home game. Let's put two and two together here. We want a 'new' stadium which arguably has a few thousand more seats. Perhaps we are trying to educate the powers that be that such an investment is needed and worthy of support. Just my two cents worth. Give our athletics department and Administration some credit. Yes, it has taken longer than any of us would like but we have to stay the course. We'll get there, trust me!

How does it harm anyone?

It doesn't harm anyone, but when ODU constantly boasts about a sellout and then you see a ton of shiny aluminum in the glaring sun on TV or in person, you're going to get a big ol' eyeroll from me. Just saying.

Sellout streak
This is my personal opinion and I fully expect you all to blast me for it. If the best thing we have to sell to recruits or donors is a sellout streak that really means nothing, we have a long way to go. Time to get creative ODU.

I've come to believe the Sellout streak hurts ODAF. You have to have seats to sell to bring in new money...Growth. I get the boasting about the sellout, but it is hard to sell something, when you say it's sold-out. I talked this point till I am blue in the face.

RE: Sellout streak
Talk to the coaches (you know the folks that do the recruiting) and they will tell you what I and others keep posting on various threads. It is not a secret ask them. The only real bright shiny bauble they have that can be exclusively ours is - the "Sellout Streak". I don't doubt it may hurt us in other ways but those on the inside consider it essential until we have the new stadium on board and frankly my hunch is they will want to keep it going even then. In reality our facilities across the board are inferior to VT, UVA, Liberty and even JMU. In addition the other G-5 programs we are battling for players in surrounding states have a longer and generally more storied football history, bigger stadiums, etc. Add in the present slump and it becomes even more important than it was last year with 10 wins and a bowl.

I agree completely. I can't understand how a bunch of presumably smart people don't get it. Maybe they just don't care. I know at least one one of them sees the sellout streak and its promotion similarly to the way we see it.

The counter is if there are seats available, how many of us would still donate? It would be tough decision. The only reason I would consider is just to help team.

There are no more sellouts at the Ted, but I still donate and get season tickets. Maybe I'm in a small camp, but I imagine I'd do the same for football.

Me too. Plus, we don't have enough donors now. The fanbase needs to grow, and we need more new faces in the stadium to make that happen.

RE: Sellout streak
Calling it a “sell out” is a joke! Any recruit that comes to a game can see that this highly touted “sell out” is BS as the seats are still empty! I don’t see how this helps recruiting at all. Are we to assume these kids would rather play in a “sold out” game in a largely empty stadium and a low energy crowd than to play in front of a loud high energy crowd in a game that isn’t “sold out”?? Makes no sense to me, but just my opinion.

these are the types of things that make it look like our admin are stuck in a small time mindset. it appears that we don't completely have a handle on what it takes to become a successful g5 program. i hope that we get there in time
