That was another "meh" 3rd place finish for Cubit's Broncos which had too much talent for such mediocrity.
The 2006 choke-job loss (that still pizzes me off) to CMU was in October, giving the division championship to CMU. If only Cubit had played a QB other than his son that season, maybe he wouldn't have lost twice to Brian Kelly (the International Bowl vs. Cincinnati was a disaster).
Technically correct is the best kind of correct. If WMU beats ball state in 2008, they would have been playing in the MACC. Also, you're technically incorrect about the 2006 CMU game, that was in november and was for MAC West championship. We lost and it sucked, but it was a team that was "in contention in november".

You are right. I humbly concede and bow to you...
The 2006 game was on November 10. I was there and it was a forgettable performance, but I can never forget the cold, cold rain. Awful.
Bottom-line, however, is Cubit never won a championship, never earned a birth in the MAC Championship Game and was owned by CMU.
The 0-5 streak against CMU was simply inexcusable and disgusting. We had too much talent for that.
Pleased WMU currently is the defending MAC Champion with a conference winning streak going back to November 2015, and a three game winning streak against the Chippewas.
You play for championships and to beat your rival.

Since this thread has been highjacked, and I've been part of it, I support Coach Esposito and do not think he should be fired.
Sorry this has been bumped considering the title.
Shut down Akron, Coach!

Oh you, forgot about about the "flush". Getting late, are you again?
Curious about the "Chicago" Man... Shouldn't you be more the "Phoenix" man?
Actually, pretty sure Charm is at least "related to" ChicagoMan and DB. He claimed on the EMU board that his "son goes to Army", which I am quite confident is wrong. Then when someone asks him about parking for this weeks game at West Point, he attaches an online link, rather than providing a thoughtful answer.

Broncos83, why do persist trying to deflect like this?

I don’t think Esposito is to blame.
We’ve had a ton of injuries. That has hurt us exponentially more IMO.
My concern has never been with the defense (still isn’t despite all the injuries) but rather our offensive schemes, play calling, and mental mistakes (penalties, dropped passes, etc.)

The thing is brother, whether people on this board like me or hate me, they all know I am who I am, and I doubt you could convince anyone that I have double identities, as I respond, some would say, ad nauseum to those who wish to discuss the subjects I am engaged in. No fake ID's required.
Probably time for you to fade our Charm. Your routine is as bad as DB's.

Penalties are a valid concern. That, more than any other factor, is controllable.

Wasn't a big fan of the hire of Daoust and Esposito, as was evident Saturday, soft vanilla coverage and no pass rush.

The game plan was to stop the run. They did. And they won.

Akron top two WR's are 5'9 full stretch maybe that brings some confidence. Tall WR's sure are a weapon. BG's towers two years ago ran past and over us.

Win is a win... but we lost one of the best DC in the nation last year. Coach Pinkham was a huge loss.

So great that Peej didn't want him.
Yes, he's only giving up 33 ppg at UMess with a weak schedule. What a loss
Gave up 58 to an offensively challenged OU. Wow, Pinkham's shut down D!

Pinkham's great defense could not stop Ohio the entire 2nd half in the MACC last year. Thank god for Spillane's INT on the final drive!

I won't go so far as to call Pinkham one of the best DC's in the country, but I will say that he was great for these players in his system and time to develop it.
To call out his stats in a snapshot of one half of a football game against the 2nd best team in the MACC (we gave up a total of 3 pts in the 4th quarter in that game, btw...hardly "couldn't stop") or his teams avg. pts. allowed after six games in his tenure at Dumpster Fire U is low hanging fruit, at best.
I guess we could just as easily say that Tom Brady is a schitt QB cuz' he threw that pick that one time.
Give it time.
I do agree that some of the bonehead penalties and missed assignments are an issue, but I would never begrudge a kid trying to make a play against a receiver 6" taller when he gets a PI every now and then.
