I'm just glad he is in the NFL and that your OC didnt give it to him everytime you played NIU.

Well, don't rest too easy because Swanson was never that far behind Hunt. Not far at all.

I don't mean that as a flame, or even a boast, it's just a fact. Our running game didn't really drop off when Swanson went in.

Absolutely and it looks like staff recruited that position well for several years ahead. OL will be the only telling and every time we fannish see doom in that department, they get better.

What caught me most off guard about Hunt's performance, regardless future defenses now know to plan for him, he still showed that acceleration against the superior NFL talent. They were tackling behind hi. He had those instincts we noticed of seeing the developing lanes ahead and which direction to go even though the chase was behind him.

And he's 22 freakin years old. How many NFL rookies, seriously, are only 22 years old?

Well best to him. Elliot had those amazing first performances too, then settled into normal. No higher expectations for any Toledo rookies but KC DOES have some distracting talent at other positions, Hunt is part of that diversity. If their QB (and coach) continue to call the long ball and they can recover from the defensive injuries, they may have a run.

Swanson doesnt have near the ability of Hunt to make people miss and run through tackles, Hunt's stiff arm is one of the best I have ever seen. Swanson is a very nice college player, but he his more than a few step behind Hunt, in my opinion. Hunt also has the ability get stronger as the game goes on... his biggest challenge will staying heathly because he fights so hard for every yard.

In the biggest win over the past few years, Hunt was suspended for the Arkansas game. Swanson did his thing and we got the upset.

RE: Kareem Hunt
It looked to me like Swanson has come into this season in the best shape of his career to this point. He got caught from behind on a couple of long runs 2 years ago as he started to lose his stride, but the DB's have an advantage as they generally have 20 fewer yards to run toward the end zone - which is essentially where the tackles were made. Hunt had a so-so junior year when he appeared to bulk up a bit (plus he had the hamstring issues) and Swanson stepped right in.

Toledo always has a very good to great playmaker on the team. It just seemed like in the last 5-6 years, in important situations against NIU, they don't go to the playmakers. NIU couldn't stop Hunt or Page. If Swanson is close to Hunt, that doesn't bode well for the MAC East.

Year over year we've had excellent backs at the college level. Hunt obviously has something special as he's gone further than any in this era. But, from what I've seen on the field...at the college level...Swanson was just about as successful. Hopefully the OL will give the RB's a some big holes this year.

Personally, I got tired of seeing the kid, glad he moved on 03-wink so I could see Swanson, Thomspson and anyone new that came along.

He struggled like crazy in the first half and was something like 10 carries for nine yards at one point. Made one long, drive sustaining run late that helped seal it for KC.

Helps to have one of the world's fastest men on the team. A team keys on Hunt, the other guy kills them. Sooner or later, Hunt's instincts are going to find a hall. His long run this time, that was line work. And Reid knows how to use them. Right people in the right place at the right time.

Mostly I've been surprise his durability has been equal to the task. Wasn't sure he was strong enough but maybe that's me blowing up what the pros are.

His first half struggles were linework, too, to some extent. Until Houston lost Watt and the linebacker they were blowing up the KC line. Plus the TOP favored KC by a ridiculous margin. That was a tired defense at the end but Hunt always seems fresh late in games.

I'm too lazy to look but I feel as if every recent Toledo RB has gone to the NFL. Hunt, Fluellen, Parmele, Taylor?

As far as feature backs you may be right. Taylor had some success, the others, before Hunt, much less but still made it. We've def had some good ones.

RE: Kareem Hunt
Hunt now ties Adrian Peterson as the most games (5) of 100 yards or more from scrimmage to start a career.

He got beaten up pretty bad in the 1st half as he seemed to get hit by 1 or 2 players immediately after taking the hand off on most of the plays, he does seem to stay so strong in the 2nd. After last week's game it was reported that Kareem had more rushing yards in the 2nd halves than any other RB had total. I don't think that changed last night, as I think he only had about 10 yards in the 1st half.

They also said he had 25 yards in the first half, but 26 yards after contact. Seems like Houston did a good job of reviewing film to know the Cheif's running game tendencies.

And yes, I did watch some of the NFL game - but only because I wanted to see Hunt play - and because I happened across the game while channel surfing...

One notable running back that did not play in the NFL was Adonis Thomas. I loved watching him run. Thompkins reminds me of him.
