No one is holding Toledo under 30 in the MAC but maybe NIU. I see us giving up some 40 spots but not to EMU.
Rutgers is improved but a 3-9 team probably. Kentucky is decent but a good offense can put points on them.
Charlotte is no better than Nevada.
Miami would have beaten EMU about 35 or 45 to 0. Kentucky and Duke are very comparable and Miami shmoked the Blue Devils. Transitive transitive lala land. Doesnt matter much. We concede the game to Toledo. Your team is obviously superior. Congrats on the win.
Alabama be warned.

at this point, i'm willing to concede the entire season. Toledo's just too spooky.

BTW, one of the more interesting thoughts from spring ball is how dominant our DL was vs. our OL.
The story was either our OL is terrible or our DL is something special. The latter is true.

Since Toledo<Kentucky, and IMO, Eastern>Kentucky, I will remain cautiously optimistic that we can hang with the Eagles on Saturday...
Regardless, Good Luck, and hope to see some EMU fans in attendance ...

Dear Friends,
There is almost no discussion of Eastern on the Toledo board. Is it too early in the week, they want to be cautious, Eastern is not worthy? Just seems funny for all of the bravado of UofToledoFans, on our board, that there is almost nothing on theirs.

RE: Game Week: Toledo
Ken, Folks don't know what to make of EMU. Is it last year's team? Better? Worse (doubt that)?
I looked at the Sagarin ratings. They use a methodology which weights last seasons performance + this seasons. As teams play more games, this year's games count more and last year's less.
Personally, I think EMU is somewhat underrated based on four games which were wins or very narrow last second losses. Ignoring Charlotte, for the moment, playing very tough vs. Rutgers, Ohio and Kentucky, two of which were on the road, is impressive to me.
Repeating a comment made a number of times, if EMU had a more favorable schedule (conference games better balanced in terms of difficulty) we'd probably have a solid record all season long. Now, we will probably struggle in October and do better in November, maybe qualifying for a bowl with a win vs. BGSU at home, last game of the season.

Yes, its been a miracle that we've been competitive the first four games considering the offensive line and lack of running attack, TE production, special teams mostly punting and penalties.

Not sure I really agree.
Ignoring special teams, there is offense and defense.
On offense we are effective passing and ineffective running the ball BUT we are very, very good on defense, hence, we are an 'average or above average' MAC team.
If the OL was better we'd be one of the top 3 teams in the MAC, easily.
What drives fans crazy, I think, is the lack of effective running game. Offensive problems are so easy to see and see in the stats (look at the rushing stats).
All of that said, there is still an old saying that defense wins championships....
Offense is more fun, but defense wins. Folks just seem to prefer winning 42 - 35 than to 16 - 13.

RE: Game Week: Toledo
As it stands today, if Keen/Creighton stand pat with the O, and we simply try to win with our D and being conservative, this is a 6-6 team......struggling into it's last game at BG to become bowl eligible. We'll be dogs to Toledo, WMU, NIU, and Miami, at least. Have to beat Army, Ball St., Central & BG. The scary part is our O and special teams have found ways to lose 2 games with a single horrendous play in each. Same thing could happen against any of the 4 teams we need to beat.
Great to some since EMU hasn't been to back-to-back bowl games forever. But very disappointing to those on this board who follow closely and now realize this should be at least an 8 win team. The ONLY thing that was really a question mark coming into the season was the OLine, which is still the case. They aren't horrible, they are what we thought they were.
At this point, going into our 5th game, this is squarely on the coaches. You are getting paid to game plan and scheme around you OLine deficiencies. Likewise, you know exactly what you have in your punter, so figure it out.
Our OLine is average enough to have at least an average offense. We have a 5th year Senior QB who is supposed to be one of the best in the league. That alone should give Keen & Creighton enough to work with to improve this thing. The punter is the punter. He punts fine early. Change the blocking or his release point as the game moves on and the punt block gets closer, or simply use Roback more.
Not trying to be a know-it-all, but we all see the exact same things. Very frustrating if we maintain the status quo and end up 6-6. This type of opportunity doesn't come along every year. We go back to QB square 1 next year. That could be a good thing, and a breathe of fresh air, but probabilities say a brand new young QB is likely to struggle. We need to strike while the iron is hot and start showing some improvement on O and special teams.
It starts this week with an upset in Toledo. My rant is done.

20 points per game on offense but only 31% for the season on 3rd down conversions which is troubling. We've faced a lot of long and third situations due to penalties or bad play calling in earlier downs. And lets not forget turnovers on the offensive side while our defense is creating turnovers and we were on the plus side earlier this season we're getting closer to break even now. We've struggled this year on offense in my opinion and yes the main reason is the lack of the running game to keep defenses honest.

RE: Game Week: Toledo
Guys, guys, guys.
One reason for the so-so offense is a tough schedule. Other than CHAR we haven't had a 'breather game' where we can score 30+ points.
Look for the 'numbers' to improve greatly in late Oct/Nov. as the schedule gets to be 'fair'.
This is a repeat of what we said SIX MONTHS ago: Weak OL and a BRUTAL schedule starting with Game #2 and continuing until late Oct.
Sometimes s*it happens. The MAC did us no favors scheduling us consecutively Ohio, TOL, WMU, NIU... (esp. as we already had Kentucky and Army in between). I have no idea why we aren't playing say WMU on a mid-week game instead of say BG. BG for national TV????? :(
When I look at the best MAC teams of 2017 I see TOL, WMU, NIU, Ohio...
