Buddy Stephens could give a sh*t less about the players. I wonder how many come back to visit him ?

The running back who ended up at West Georgia ran his mouth about as much as the head coach.

The DC seemed like a pretty good dude, along with the DL coach.

He reminds me of the coach from the movie Varsity Blues where the coach is more concerned in winning his next district tile/state championship than he is in the well being of his players.

I just started watching this show last night and jumped to season 2.....

how in the world did the kid (DL) that was originally playing at Louisville make the grades to play for FAU? If this kid can get a passing grade in college something is wrong.

There is one kid talking to a an FCS recruiter (Southeastern Louisiana I think). The recruiter says "What can we do to get you to come to us?" The kid says on camera "I want my number." The recruiter says "no problem what else?" The kid says "I can't say because there are cameras." The recruiter flat out said "I know what you're talking about and we follow all NCAA regulations and will not comply with that request by any means." I was floored.

It's a pretty intense and really interesting docu-series.

Wow. I plan on watching now. Didn't realize it was that real.

RE: OT: Netflix's Last Chance U
I found it interesting that the players are no longer getting P5 offers. Looks like the series revealed the truth that there might be 1 or 2 a year that will actually pan out at their school. The finale showed this with UAB calling Wagner asking for advice on handling DJ Law and Ronald Ollie not having a place to play this year after having a great year at Nicholls, including a strong game against UGA. Add in that everybody but the DL coach bailed and it looks like the jig is up at Scooba Tech.

What options does Ollie have now ? D2 or NAIA ?

I don't understand. If the Ollie kid had a great year, why does he need another place to play?

He left on his own, I think.

Said he wasn't happy at Nicholls. Kinda acted like he thinks he "deserves" to be at a P5 school.

I think that has more to do with their academic struggles (or character flaws) than their athletic ability.

Many people would be surprised how many players that are very similar to him are playing college football.

It still amazes me that those so many guys don't understand that academics (whether they want to learn or not) play a major role in who (or who doesn't) recruit them.

DJ Law and Isaiah Wright are talented enough to play on just about any team in the country.

Also, you will notice that many of those guys come from situations with family hardships (Law and Wright's fathers spent much time in jail as their children were growing up) or tragedies (Ollie's parents both were killed when he was 5). Nobody likes to talk about it, but the falling apart of families is one of our society's biggest problems.

I understand fully what type of family some of these kids are born and then raise in. That's why I don't get upset like some fans when these kids screw up off the field. When a kid is raised in that type of setting they don't all of a sudden become angels just because they are on a college campus.

For some removing them from it is all that's needed. For others it takes a coach to show that kid how they need to act. That might take 6 months or a year or a couple. For some they will never change.

But fans who for the most part live normal and feel safe everytime they walk out the door. No worries at all because their parents will do most things for them. Those fans have never seen some of the places these kids live and have to live in. Weakness is something they never show. Weakness is dangerous.

It takes time for kids living 18 years like that to find a way to live out of it. That is why outside of felonies I don't get too upset for kids making mistakes.

Not even if it's the "other teams" players. Pet peeve of mine is when fans call rival players "thugs" for mistakes and just a kid who made a mistake when its one on their team.

Agreed. And this is why coaches have the chance to play such a huge role in the lives of so many young people, and why sports truly is sometimes the only 'way out' for kids living in some really bad circumstances (that they did not create for themselves).

Pretty accurate assessment IMO. I think it is a true testament to a coach when players from a rough background come in to a program and become successful in the classroom and in life. It shows that the staff cared for that kid for more than what he brought to the field.

I think EMCC is currently the #2 team in the nation and after winning 59-0 last night, they have outscored their opponents 104-10 in their last 2 games. It appears that they called off the dogs in the 2nd half of both of those games. EMCC is once again one of the best juco teams in the nation.

The current #3 team in the nation, Holmes Community College, will be at East MS CC next Thursday for what should be a great matchup.

RE: OT: Netflix's Last Chance U
Season 3 is released tomorrow (Friday July 20) on Netflix. It's no longer East Mississippi CC though as the featured school is Independence (Kansas) CC. The irony is that the original Last Chance U (EMCC) ended up winning the JuCo championship this past season.

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...ew-netflix

**bits and pieces excerpts from the article**
Netflix’s Last Chance U is back for Season 3 on July 20, when the hit show chronicling the lives of JUCO football players will begin a new era. Instead of East Mississippi Community College, where the first two seasons were set, this year’s school is Independence Community College in Kansas.

When the school hired Jason Brown as the head football coach, things changed. He told the cameras that when he got to Indy in 2015, there were no coaches’ offices and no weight room — both had to be built from scratch. There is no brand-new stadium, pristine practice fields, or multiple uniform combinations like at EMCC.

Hell, in episode one, we see a cow interrupt practice.
