This is a replay of the targeting call in which they ejected the WKU player

Gross....

The targeting calls will kill the game if the NCAA isn't careful. If we're seeing at least one ejection for targeting in almost every game, THREE YEARS+ after the rule was implemented, the problem is the rule.

Yep, that was BS clearly and I called it as such at the time. He basically leaned against him as he was falling. I would argue there was no launching even though he was falling forward. Clearly no intent to even hit JMar. He pulled up and should have been good, but because his helmet grazed our quarterback it's suddenly targeting and he has to be ejected. Complete crap.

I think this has been bantered before but they need two versions of the penalty. One when it is obviously not malicious or blatant and one when it is. The egregious version gets the suspension and the other just the penalty. This would make so much more sense.

I thought I saw a headline yesterday that said it was was a NCAA rule that can't be appealed. Might have been WBKO

I just hope we start seeing improvement that results in wins. Before the season started some of us said new first time coach...some games will be loss by just mistakes from that. Last Saturday was one of those (UAB for Brohm) but damn it still hurts and makes us angry even when you expect it.

In the long run the east is still in play as of now and going into the season I think all of us would take that and be OK with it. I personally don't think it will happen but still there for the taking.

I missed seeing the call I was looking at where the pass was going and even missed the replay...at that point I was too mad to even care. I knew the game was loss. But damn that replay should get the replay official a few games off. That was just a awful call.

You are correct. Derik Overstreet is suspended for the first half against Ball State.

I don't think any fan with common sense would call that anything but a bad call. Even with Red and Blue glasses on.

I expected us to have a setback this season, not because of the new coach but more so that we lost a ton of talent. Brohm can really coach, but the talent he brought in might not be as good as what Taggert or Petrino brought in. Sanford is bringing in some solid talent and Im confident things will get better

Isn't that the same hit that got Bradford ejected in the bowl? Spoke with an official at the bowl game and he gave the same explanation as the commentator did Saturday night. If you lead with the crown of your helmet on a defenseless player you will be ejected per the rule. It doesn't look like a punishable hit, but by the letter of the law it is targeting. I'd have been ejected several times over with these rules when I played, but it's the way the game is called now. I don't think the kid should miss three quarters of football for the hit, but I don't make the rules.

From the replay linked in this thread I dont see leading with the crown. If anything it was the facemask and then the side of the helmet. If you take your head and draw a mark around what you think would be the crown...its in clear view.

I can see the on the field call but unless the TV replay showed something else. Even going by the strictest letter of the law...this review was a mistake.

That's the problem with this rule each person sees it different and there is no standard to go by. I've seen punt returner, many many many, take shots way worse (with the helmet) than this as they were catching the ball.

The replays showing different angles on the broadcast and stopped when contact is made on the broadcast showed the top of his helmet being the first thing to make contact. Not agreeing with the call, but you can't do that in today's game.

Your punt returner analogy is apples to oranges. A ball carrier is not defenseless like an outstretched receiver or QB who has thrown a ball. Still can't hit in the head, but the rules differ.

I do agree that the rules need tweaking. There shouldn't be this much uncertainty trying to understand this rule. Too many ifs, ands, and buts with no regard for common sense.

how is this thread still kicking? oh, i know - the two teams that have the two most obnoxious fan bases filled with the highest level of undeserving hubris in the league, played each other.

Hubris?!? Did you read this thread? There is a lot of negativity and severe lack of confidence by the fan bases of the teams that played, coupled with interjections of how beatable and overrated they are by other fan bases.

Wooooh, you sure are taking a crack at that "most obnoxious" title aren't you? They are having a discussion on a discussion board, dude. The current discussion is just about the current state of calling a target, and has little to do with either team outside of what started the discussion.

we couldn't get to your QB at all and your HC decided to shut your passing game down and try to pound the ball down our throats. sent Baker back into the game and got him injured again is mind blowing.
skip called a bad game but your HC outdid him.
I thought we had a good offensive game plan. But, I certainly didn't understand throwing the ball deep when it was intercepted. We were at mid field or so, and I thought we should get in a 2 back set and run the damn ball, burn the clock, and methodically undulate our way to the goal. I read something this morning where Skip had told Smith to focus on getting 5 yards per play and it sounded like our QB made the decision to throw deep on that play. I didn't think he would have that latitude. Of course, I may have not understood what Skip said. Anyway, the defense did a helluva job getting the ball right back and the offense did what they had to do. Man, what a game. I expected both teams to be improved since the first 2 games. I don't know that they were but it was a good game. It will be interesting to see how the coaches grade our team's performance. We were fortunate to win, but hung in the whole game and overcame adversity. Next week will tell us a lot.

Without looking it up, I would think that was the lowest scoring game, by quite a margin, between WKU and Tech.

In the modern era, certainly. FWIW though, La Tech defeated WKU 7-6 in 1940.

Did you see his knee injury two seasons ago? Doubt anyone could come back from that.....To his credit he got his degree which for that young man is awesome coming from his background...Will help him big time in the real world...Doubt he plays any more football though, out of shape due to the nature of the injury and doubt that knee ever allows him to play football again....Sad but happy he at least has a degree...

I never saw the injury but knew it was bad. I just assumed he had recovered since he was (I thought) back on the team and ready to play this year.

Apologies. I barely have time to keep up with my own team, let alone others'.

No big deal man, just don't expect him to see him on the field...Would be nice though to see on senior day maybe he gets a ceremonial carry or something...
