"ISU and Northern will play in the 2019 season opener. It has not been decided if that game will take place on a Thursday or Saturday, according to Lyons."

Why would we schedule this game on a Thursday evening/night?

I guess because that's one of our football nights. It'll probably get moved to a Tuesday or Wednesday night.

I'm sick of playing in state FCS teams. I want a home opener vs Illinois or Northwestern.

It may be an opener, but it won't be at home.

If it's labor day weekend it may make more sense to do it on Thursday.

And yeah, a home game vs NW or Illinois isn't happening

Didn't some here say we would have had much better attendance for BC (I recall over 20 K) if it was on Saturday during the Labor day weekend? I would be surprised if we had better attendance on a Thursday night versus Saturday afternoon with an in-state opponent (FCS or not). Maybe I am wrong, but it is pretty consistent here (and I agree) that Saturday games draw better than weeknights.

RE: Illinois State @ NIU Football
"NIU Head Coach Brock Spack opens the season against his former team"...I can see the headline now...

I'm good with playing the instate FCS programs, I actually like it. Play one every year! I have a brother who went to SIU, and friends who went to the others in state FCS schools, it's great fun to contact them and get stupid on texts and calls about the game. Doesn't mean I don't want us to play U or I or NW, but I think the instate FCS teams are fun to play, and they may draw a bit better than playing an Elon or Cal Poly.

It also keeps the $s in state, not that Illinois needs cash or anything like that....

Our fanbase will complain no matter what day of the week (even if it's a Saturday I'm convinced we wouldn't fill Huskie Stadium and that'd be sad in itself). Let's be honest, a Thursday night game before Labor Day weekend would likely fair better than Friday or Saturday.

Things may have changed since you all were at NIU... but Thursday nights* are the new Friday/Saturday.

*When it's not the middle of November sub-zero weather.

I wouldn't expect any FBS fanbase in IL or the country to fill their stadium for honest to god Illinois State

I thought the last ISU game had a great atmosphere. I don't mind playing them from time to time. It's one of the few FCS teams I'd say that about. And look on the bright side...they can try to get back at us for stealing their playbook last time. 03-lmfao

Image of Northern's dreamy QB swooping in on the ISU QB's hotass sister in pursuit of the playbook back in early 2000. Funny hair back then.

Some seasons an FCS just does seem right. Next season is a season where it will be welcomed! The other three games are absolute bears

It's nice to get noticed when playing the big boys but 4 FBS does not make sense. Take the win (hopefully) build on it. Not a big deal in the realm of things from attendance standpoint to strength of schedule.

No reason not to play a state directional school at home every year. Unless NIU is "afraid" and only "have nothing to gain, something to lose" like the B10 schools in IL we love to complain about. 05-stirthepot

Completely agree, play one of the FCS from Illinois every year, makes too much sense. The other three can be difficult games.

RE: Illinois State @ NIU Football
The 2003 Thursday night win over Maryland was the most electric atmosphere I've seen at Huskie Stadium. The place was full and tons of students attended. Many go home on Labor Day weekend, but that Thursday night game kept them on campus. This game will not be a sellout, yet it should be a terrific atmosphere.

Sure, it would be great to play nothing but P5 teams, but most believe it's too risky to play the Huskies in DeKalb. Enjoy the 2019 and quit complaining. Oh wait, that's what this board is all about.
