SEC Week Two
Man, some real snoozers this week but there are a handful of decent games

Easter Kentucky @ UK
UT Martin @ Ole Miss
Fresno State @ Alabama
Indiana State @ Tennessee
Alabama A&M @ Vandy
Nicholls @ TAMU
Chattanooga @ LSU
Northern Colorado @ Florida

All should be blowouts IMO 03-zzz

TCU @ Arkansas - Don't really have a feel for this one but I'll give the edge to Arkansas 24-21
Auburn @ Clemson - Clemson too much and at home, 31-21
South Carolina @ Missouri - I have a bad feeling about SC in a shootout, I think 38-35 Missouri
Georgia @ Notre Dame - Notre Dame wins big, 34-17
Miss State @ La Tech - Another SEC @ G5 matchup. I have Miss State though, 45-20

I agree about the snoozers.

But,
T.C.U. @ Arkansas: Does the Hog D-Line get stop the T.C.U. run and does the Hog secondary stop the pass? If the D-Line controls the running game, and they have that potential, will the secondary be strong enough to force punts? If they are Arkansas wins. The Hog's offense will be fine.

Auburn @ Clemson: The game was close last year and Clemson had a better QB then. This year's Auburn D may be top 5. The question is how does Auburn's Offense play against the Clemson defense? The short passing game is crucial to Auburn this week. Stidham won't have time to throw deep. And we'll need to pass efficiently to be able to run the ball. While I give Clemson the slight edge here since they are at home, I don't see them being as strong as last year and I see our offense being better than last years. This game will be close.

South Carolina @ Missouri: The Gamecocks have a defense. Missouri doesn't. Contain Mizzou's receivers and you win.

Georgia @ Notre Dame: How good was Temple? How good was Ap State? I'm not sold on the Irish. Georgia has one of its best defensive units in years. South Bend is an alien environment. If Georgia's rookie QB doesn't turn the ball over Georgia wins. If he does they don't.

Miss State vs La Tech: Size wins. Mississippi State

I'm going pure homer this week with all sec teams winning Nonconf. Nicholls in the second half scares my confidence in Aggy.

South Carolina over Mizzou: Mizzou defense too holy right now, but if Mizzou is gonna be a dark horse in the East, they need to win. Going SC.

Hogs over frogs

Dawgs over another crappy Irish team

SEC Week Two
SCAR over Mizzou
Dawgs over Irish
Plainsmen over the defending champs

What I do know is that the number of injured QB's and other offensive personnel in the first week is proving that those early season cupcake games have some merit. Tuning up the defense is easier than getting the offensive side of the ball squared away.

The money and notoriety of these intersectional matchups is meaningless if your entire season goes up in smoke like it has with FSU, A&M and potentially UGA. I'll be interested to see if there is any P5 pushback to making such games maybe WK 3 of WK 4 affairs.

Just another reason we need a Champs only playoff.

If playing quality competition outside your conference is going to hurt you then no one is going to do it. So far, the committee hasn't rewarded anyone who lost one of these games other than perhaps OSU in 2014.

I think these marquee opening games will continue for the sake of the money, but that dynamic would come to the forefront and cause schools to play even more of these games if losses didn't hurt your chances of making the playoffs.

And the only thing holding up a champs only format is being stuck in a P5. Somebody's got to go!

Kentucky over EKU
Ole Miss over UT Martin
Alabama over Fresno State
Tennessee over Indiana State
Vandy over Alabama A&M
TAMU over Nicholls
LSU over Chattanooga
Florida over Northern Colorado

Arkansas over TCU...close game as a whole, but the Razorbacks pull away late.

This Auburn/Clemson game is tough. I think it could go either way and I'm tempted to give CU the edge since they are at home, but you know what? They've got to go to Louisville the following week and I have to wonder if they overlook AU a little bit. Coming off a championship season, the drive to repeat will not quite be there. It's only human nature to become a little complacent after reaching your goals and after facing a team you beat the previous season. Maybe you start to take a few things for granted. Maybe your new QB isn't quite as polished. Maybe the other team is a little hungrier. My head says Clemson, but my gut says Auburn by 7.

I think South Carolina takes down Mizzou and it's probably a scoring fest.

Georgia will struggle for the 1st quarter because this team hasn't been in such an environment before...the mystique of South Bend and all that. After they settle down though, they run all over a Notre Dame team that isn't going to have the same caliber of athletes and isn't going to do anything special offensively. I'm not saying it will be a blowout, but I think UGA wins convincingly.

Miss. State wins at La Tech, but it could be somewhat close.

I want Auburn to win very badly. I certainly think they are capable.

Kelly Bryant is the real wild card here. If he is ready to play at a high level then I like Clemson. But if he gets jittery and makes some mistakes then Auburn very well may win.

RE: SEC Week Two
JR, this week has had my stomach in knots for months. Two elite defenses set to clash. Auburn's running game is worrisome even with Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, and Austin Bryant on the DL. Pressure on Stidham will be key. If Clemson gets a consistent pass rush, I like our chances. I also think Bryant's running ability is the other X-factor. If he can loosen things up by making plays with his feet, it will make a huge difference in Clemson moving the ball. Nobody is going to mistake his passing with that of Watson's, but I do think he is a better runner than Watson. I think the margin of victory will be 10 or less. I honestly haven't a clue who the winner will be. Pure tossup.

Also keep my marital harmony in your prayers as my lovely bride is a fourth generation Auburn graduate 03-rotfl

Agree 100%. Big test for Bryant. It was only Kent State, but he certainly looked the part last week. Auburn's defense is obviously an entirely different animal. One consistent theme throughout spring and fall practice is that the coaches said that Bryant's decision making was great and helped separate him from the younger guys. We'll see!

I'm not a big NFL fan so I was missing college football last night. I assume they didn't have a game because they didn't want to compete with opening night.

I'll probably watch the OK State game tonight unless it turns into a bloodbath.

OSU is pretty much running away with it.

Purdue is only up 10-7 with 9 to go in the 2nd quarter. This one could be interesting.

I agree about the snoozers.

The real marital rub there is that Dabo is a Bammer! As to Bryant running, I wouldn't advise it. The LB's and DB's hit hard. I agree it is a toss up and I think the contest difference will be whether Bryant or Stidham has the better game. I like our RB's but I like your WR's. I don't know about your kicker but our' is usually money. That might factor in as well.

Can we call it the JR/Kap Bowl?

Anyway, Lindy's is picking Auburn to upset Clemson:

You’ll be hard-pressed to find many teams around the country with the combined offensive and defensive line talent that Auburn and Clemson possess — which is always critical to a championship run — but this game more than likely will come down to quarterback play, being able to run/stop the run, turnovers and the kicking game (sounds cliché right?). Both teams are breaking in new starting quarterbacks. Clemson rolled out dynamic dual-threat Kelly Bryant in its 56-3 win over Kent State a week ago and Auburn unveiled Jarrett Stidham in a 41-7 win over Georgia Southern. Bryant, an electrifying runner, has never played in a game of this magnitude, nor has he seen a defense like he’s about to see. Stidham, on the other hand, has been in a similar environment. He started at Kansas State and against a highly-ranked Oklahoma team before a season-ending ankle injury cost him his true freshman season at Baylor. Stidham looked rusty in his first start for the (Lee County) Tigers, but he settled in as the game progressed. Auburn’s offensive line had some protection breakdowns last week against Georgia Southern and if that happens this weekend Stidham will pay for it. But the return of bruising tailback Kam Pettway — aka “Bubba” — should ease the pressure off AU’s new QB. Pettway’s presence could also open up opportunities in the passing attack if he can churn out big chunks of yardage on the ground. This should be a great game, but I think Auburn has the edge at quarterback, running back and kicker, which will sway the outcome to the visitors liking.
The Lowe Down: Auburn 26, Clemson 23

Louisville and North Carolina have a good game going on ESPN...currently 10-7 Louisville.

Meanwhile in Lexington, Kentucky is trailing Eastern Kentucky...

RE: SEC Week Two
In other news, Michigan is holding a slim lead on Cincinnati at home...17-14.

If Cincinnati wins this game, how bad does Florida look?
