Right before the half
Much has been made of the three runs that were called on our last possession before the half vs BC that resulted in a quick punt. Check out the third run. It begins at the 38:15 mark of this recording (sorry about the poor resolution):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeF-lgm_LPQ

When Tears went in motion it brought his defender into the box. Wimann then had two guys to block and could only get one while the other made the tackle. Look how well the rest of that play was blocked. If not for the extra defender Jones is still running. It makes you wonder what was going on there schematically.

RE: Right before the half
Blake's bad return put them in a tough spot. When you catch the ball at the 5, running sideways is a bad decision.

If Graham had the option on any of those run plays, he would had been successful. No one really keyed in him.

Another in a series of baffling decisions by Carey in having Blake in this spot.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't try to go for it and put another score on the board."
If we scored in the last two minutes and then scored on the kickoff right after the half the game would be over.
Coaches need to take advantage of having those two possessions in a row.

It was good to see they were options, made me feel a bit better. Still think you need to have so something more creative on the 3rd down with 5-6 to go.

Also don't love the kneel down after they score. I get it...but feel you have to take your shots against a team like that.

I've never been a big believer in Blake. I can't list anything he's really good at. I am/was hoping he'd improve this year, but as of now I have him as the second weakest starter on the team behind QB.

Agree. He is the most heavy footed receiver I can remember. Just not good footwork and inefficient

Maybe Carey will make him our designated jet sweeper.

Not sure how you can judge Blake as a WR by that game? Most of the throws his way weren't within 10 feet of him...

I had already judged from his play the previous seasons. I realize it's one game and he had limited opportunities, but he doesn't appear to ever get any separation. He looks of average athleticism. And when you have those limititations, you'd better have great hands and win position battles. i dont see that either. Maybe he will have a great game next week and dispel all that. But I'm still waiting for that Blake moment.

I'm probably a small portion (very small) that thinks they have a chance at 8 or 9 wins this year IF the defense stays healthy. I think the O-Line and run game will have its way with the MAC this year even with mediocre QB play. If the QBs hit the short ones and let the WR make some plays (Weasley, Beebe) they will get some good yards for the passing game as well.

That's awesome. You're #1 wr is "fine". I suppose our QB is "dandy". Here's the liked by most: Beebe, Huff,Wimann, Scharping, Shively, Steckler, Hawn, Brown, Corcoran, smith,Pugh, Johnson, Jones, Leroy, smalls, Williams, some Lurry.

The disliked: Graham, some Lurry. I added Blake. Yeah...so much hatred.

It's a bad loss. Fingers get pointed. Blake is average at best.

The #1 WR according to who? Beebe, assuming health, will be the most productive WR. I'm not even arguing Blake is anything more than average, but there's nothing wrong with being a solid, average WR. Canada and Deucee were slurped by this place for years for being average.

We have many hawk harrelsons. It's ok to be honest about things. Blake has limitations, I'd rather hear the truth than "fanboys" that can't provide an accurate or honest evaluation.

Blake was the second leading wr in yards last year. He has as many catches in his last 12 games as Beebe has in his last 22. It stands to reason he's your #1. But I agree that Beebe will lead to team in receptions this year. Especially if Graham returns to being starter. There's plenty of Love for this team. I called 7-5 and said I can't wait for this squad to get into conference play. Our weaknesses will look far better than they did Friday. But all teams have weak spots and we've been hammering our QB position. That spots tied to the WRs doing a good job as well. And I see Blake as sub par as a supposed #1. If he was a 3 like Brescacin or he was last year, then it's no concern. Btw-i loved Duecee. Thought he was underrated and under appreciated.

RE: Right before the half
I think the biggest problem right before the half is that the defense let BC score a TD in only about a minute with no timeouts. That was way too easy. The rest of the game I thought the defense did pretty well so I'm not sure what happened there.

But of course that problem was rooted in the conservative play calling when NIU had the ball. At some point hopefully NIU coaching will realize offense is important
