Hmm. For G5 teams, this may have the unintended consequence of good players jumping ship when a coach gets called up to a P5 school.

Rule would allow a player to transfer and play immediately if a minimum GPA requirement is met. This would mean that whenever a player that wasn't highly recruited by P5 schools ends up excelling at a non P5 school, he will be recruited as if he were a free agent. This will hurt non P5 schools. Also, as a coach it means in the back of your mind you will want your star players to make grades high enough to play, but not high enough to transfer.

Not a fan of it because of the Pandora's Box it could open.

The current flows both ways. Yes there could be poaching from P5 schools but the more likely scenario is that 3-4 star player at a P5 school who finds himself stuck behind a couple of 4-5 stars for the first year. Kid gets discouraged and decides to transfer to a G5 school to actually get on the field.

Plus just from a free market standpoint I have a hard time with the 1 year sit out rule. Kids transfer schools all the time for non athletic reasons. If we want to treat these kids like students first then you have to give them the same flexibility
