RE: FAU hosting US Naval Academy
Navy is just trying (justifiably) to run out the clock.

Navy has a plug and play system, second or third string qb doesnt matter. They're still going to be good and they are going to rout a weak team like FAU even at home.
I think both FAU and FIU are going to really struggle this year. Thats to be expected under first year coaches

RE: FAU hosting US Naval Academy
Navy and Army's option offenses would roll over most of us. You have to have a strong defense playing disciplined to contain them. Their defenses are average at best, but if you have to outscore them, it can be just enough to beat you. They play within their limitations, very smart.

This was my CUSA homer pick of the week and it was not close. At least the crowd looked pretty decent and FAU has a nice venue otherwise it was ugly.

I'm pretty sure wku record against them is really good. (Army and navy). Coaches just need to teach discipline and the option isn't hard to beat. Everyone has their responsibility and if any doesn't do it that's when problems occur.

RE: FAU hosting US Naval Academy
It would have been much closer if we hadn't shot ourselves in the foot with mistakes that come from inexperience or being on different page, which could be expected from a unit that has not been together long. 47 yards lost on three different errant snaps? WRs running different routes than the routes QBs are expecting (at least three times that I saw, there were more, I am sure). Navy's defense is quite average. When FAU did have the right ideas, we burned them for long yardage. Out of 326 yards we gained, 158 came on two long TD passing plays

Navy should not have. They are not going to be very good this year. FAU had all summer to prepare.

Yea, Navy will win 9-10 games and doesn't matter how prepare time you have until you see it.
The only team to really stop NAVY last year ran triple option as well Army, Air Force, Tulane. ND see it's every year and works on it in the spring and they didn't force Navy to punt once last year.

Just curious how do you know that? Navy is totally different, It is not like they have 3 star athletes or recruit rankings to go off. It doesnt matter who graduates because none are NFL quality.
It is a system program with mediocre athletes that are discipline. They could easily get nine wins especially with the AAC schedule

lol, They could easily start off 5-0 with their home schedule and Tulsa (look really bad vs OSU)
Tulane, Cincy, @Tulsa, Air Force

Well, there was this Staubach fellow, he did pretty good.and a few other others from the academies who made it to the pros( Henning, for example), and probably some others who could have - I am thinking of Heisman winners like Dawkins, Bellino, Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside.
so a few. Certainly not to the extent as at OSU (any of them) or USC (either of them).

Before Keenan Reynolds last year, they had not had a draft pick since 1998. But yet they still routinely win 8 or 9 games.

I wouldn't waste a draft pick on a guy who can't come to camp for 5 years either. Staubach was a 10th rounder. A late round gamble. Chad Hennings, AFA, came to came after he completed his service and earned a starting position.
My point is, drafted or not, the academies do have some talent who could make NFL teams if given a chance. Not a lot, but some.

Defense is awful. Im skeptical of QB though despite FAU not knowing how to tackle. I have them losig to Tulsa, ND, Houston, Memphis. 50/50 vs Cincy/UCF

How is that different than any Navy team that won 9 or 10 games? If you haven't notice not much defense on any AAC or CUSA team. They did win 42-17 at away FBS stadium. That is pretty convincing.
The QB that rushed for 235 yards? He's going to do well in a triple option system. Like most of Navy's QBs.
You might want to think that "max bet" through some more

RE: FAU hosting US Naval Academy
I thought FAU defended the option not half bad in the 1st half and just wore down in the 2nd half. I have seen teams get gashed way worse. The only teams last year that slowed Navy down were other teams that ran the triple option Air force, Army, Tulane.
I am not judging FAU for a few weeks because of the roster turnover 37 players on the roster now were not here in the spring.
I did see some sparks of talent on the roster we have not seen at FAU in awhile last night so I have hope.
