Early storyline for the EIU game
The starting QB for Eastern is former NIU commit, Mitch Kimble. Kimble committed to the Huskies, then bailed for Syracuse when Dave Doeren left for NC State.

Kimble led EIU to a 22-20 comeback win over Indiana State yesterday, throwing a 15 yd TD pass with three seconds left to play.

If we lose to EIU will our AD finally fire Rod?

Not unless you want to send him a check for the buyout money

RE: Early storyline for the EIU game
Our defense is good enough to beat the teams like EIU this year and the running game will be able to get yards against a smaller school defense. We will win this one.

Translation:

He didn't want to play for Roderick. Good choice on his part.

Hope we draw better than that for an instate opponent. Last night's crowd was terrible for bringing in a big name opponent. I am sure Frazier is frustrated after listening to what so many said they wanted, making it happen and then drawing a small crowd even with all of the special promotions.

I guess playing so late on a Friday night did not help but I still felt there should have been 20,000 for a game like BC.

Second that. The Western Illinois game cost the team a bowl game last year so I do not see NIU losing two straight at home to an FCS school. Probably will need this one to get to six wins this year.

I thought before the season NIU would finish end this season somewhere between 5 - 7 to 7 - 5 and after going to the game last night I didn't see anything to change my perception of that. There are a lot of good things going on across the roster but without elite production from the QB position it will be really tough to win the MAC.

If it had been on a Saturday afternoon, there'd be over 20,000 there.

FCS wins really dont count for Bowl Games this year. So yeah, we needed that win at home for a home opener and Frazier set up the game. Not playing on Saturday was stupid. We need recruits to come to games, they can watch us on tv some other time.

Early storyline for the EIU game
I think the late game may have helped the local economy. If people showed up early and didn't tailgate (like us), ya gotta do something (like eating and shopping, as we did). Plus, the hotels seemed pretty full. And that means breakfast out this morning.

Is that a new change? I thought you can still count one FCS win toward eligibility.

Yes you can count one but that school has to have used 90% of their 63 scholarships in the last two years for it to count. I was told EIU didnt meet that.

Pretty sure BC said they would only come if it was on a Friday so it would be on tv. I believe SF said this not long ago. I actually didn't mind it on a Friday and was able to get 5 more people to come because they had their Saturday's full

Oh wow. If that is the case then I agree six wins is going to be an uphill climb. Although the way bowls have been coming up short on teams I am sure they could get a waiver to count the game if not enough teams become eligible.

Out of curiosity, what was your prognostication before NIU played Western?

4 years ago we had a chance to really move up a tier and now it is back to competing in the MAC.
So angry at the demise.

We had more unknowns on defense and had no idea what we were going to get. Now I would say this is the deepest we've been on defense in a long time. A semi decent defense in that game last year and it's a different outcome imo.

Early storyline for the EIU game
At first, I was disappointed. Next Saturday will be the last game I attend this year. Now, I'm sort of relieved. Season tickets were such a great investment this year!
