He seems like a great get for us. It will be interesting to hear what his deal is. One possibility is that KSU wanted to greyshirt him and he declined but I'm just guessing here.

Seems like a really weird situation...especially since his twitter photo is still him in a KSU jersey and everything else posted there is KSU related

If he was the only walk on who was awarded a scholarship then I have a tad bit more to add to this...

Right afterwards Coach was talking to someone else and he said that
he put the player on scholarship because the players family was in attendance at the practice and figured that it would be best to do it then.

Many/most of the teammates came over and were cheering/congratulating him.

After a few min the player came over (with tears of joy) and gave coach a big hug.

It is great when a walk-on puts in the effort and gets rewarded for his hard work with a scholarship! Congrats to Jack Heflin

I liked the rest - maybe a good sign the whole team and coaches are coming together!

Was 245 pounds as a HS senior, 274 as a true freshman last year, and is 298 now. Certainly putting the work in.

No one in particular, I just want to have a better idea of our roster/depth chart come 9/1

RE: 2017 Roster is up
I don't believe they ever release a list. If someone is a greyshirt they would not arrive on campus until spring semester, so we would not know until then. If a freshman is not listed on the Depth Chart, that would give reason to believe the player is being targeted as being redshirted. Just my opinion.

I honestly do not see more than a few 2017 kids not redshirt maybe on or two on the line and that's probably it in my opinion

On offense Jordan Nettles will play, Isaac Hawn and Cole Tucker are maybe's.

On defense Matt Lorbeck will probably play and Weston Kramer and a freshman linebacker are maybe's.

I just saw where North Dakota State might redshirt their entire freshman class for the second year in a row. Every coach's dream, a team full of fifth year seniors.

what about huff jones and mister do you think nettles will get enough carries to justify not redshirting him ??

and tucker is our 7th or 8th wr I hope he redshirts because if he plays it means we have 2 or 3 guys injured

I honestly think this entire class could redshirt and that we be a great thing if we can have that happen !! But like I said I think a couple lineman we be forced into action in my opinion

RE: 2017 Roster is up
I would have to think that several (as usual), will be wait and sees as to how the vets perform. This years class has some guys who came in with strength numbers (squat, dead lift etc.) that were comparable to experienced guys. Kramer and Lorbeck are two that stand out in that category and they have a shot at playing. Strength's not the end all be all but at the positions those two play it is darn important.

That's a good question regarding Nettles. Do you burn a redshirt for 25 carries for the year?

Pretty much this. They're either on the first two deep, or they're going to be redshirted, barring injuries. TLL in 2011 was a rare exception to this, as they got desperate looking for a kick returner amid a slow start.

RE: 2017 Roster is up
I would much prefer to redshirt Nettles and avoid wasting a year as happened with Chad Spann but this article makes it sound like he's playing.

They seems pretty lukewarm on Mister and Harbison, which is unfortunate as ideally they would get the reserve carries and the kids could sit.

The two deep is always on the last page of the weekly press release for the game, which comes out on Tuesday or Wednesday of game week.
