Lincoln HWY update
I went to the Family Fun event last weekend and just wanted to post an update on the various Lincoln HWY changes since last year.

KFC closed last spring because DeKalb wouldn't allow them to put up a sign with the Colonel's big ole head. It is now a Sonic which just opened last Friday.

Just next door the Popeye's is now open.

There is a grass lot in between these two joints that is the correct size for a 3rd building but I wonder if the grass area is required for water runoff by the city.

The Meth motel across the street seemed to be abandoned so my hope is that gets demolished soon. Anything will be better then that still standing.

The small food building next to Happy Wok is what looks like to be a burrito place. If I were to just judge a place on its street sign it looks really good.

Down town there are 2 projects that were known about last spring and have shown progress...

First the Hotel/Apartment complex that does not yet have building approval due to the lack of the parking spots. All the surrounding homes/buildings have been demolished except for the Ice Cream shop. This was supposed to be gone already but since the City has not given approval to build I figure the land lord decided its better collecting rent from the business than nothing.

I wish that the developer would just build the hotel/banquet hall (hold off on the apartment complex) since that would easily get approved by the city and that is something that would help down town Dekalb and NIU.

Everything above is on the Google map satellite view if you are curious.

The next project is at the old Ottos location and the units on either sides. The 3-4 lower level unit complex (there were apartments upstairs) has been demolished and it seemed like a foundation or footings were being worked on now.

Also just found this..."The Daily Chronicle reports that Pappas wants to build a second such building by remodeling or demolishing properties at 124 N. Second St, and 203, 209, 223 and 229 E. Lincoln Highway." This is the Golf shop and the immediate 3 units next to it.

The golf place (Hurricane and Diamond Tour Golf) are relocating so that won't be an issue

Thank God. COGS02-13-banana
For all my years in Dekalb (10+) I could never figure out why a business, only open by appointment could thrive and was allowed to thrive in such a foot traffic heavy area. Move that out to Peace Road or off Lincoln Hwy.

Great to hear things are moving forward downtown.

Bowlrrito. I remember it because the name probably says it all. Think Chipotle's bowls.
