And another one....

Say what you want but Pope is bringing them in. That's 6 in the last week between 2018 and 2019 classes.

To the guy who wanted another 2017 recruit....you do realize that the 2017 recruits are freshmen this year, right? Not getting any more recruits for this year. We had a great group already. The next class is 2018. There's about 10 in that group. With the addition of Martin, we have 5 in the 2019 group. Things are going surprisingly well considering the uncertainty of the OG and his contract.

Yes I realize what 2017 recruits mean. And like Walt was talking about, I was hoping we could get another JUCO pitcher - not a freshman. I still don't feel great about our pitching prospects for 2018 although I guess things will be better if Salinas was back.

??? Funny, I have the exact opposite perspective on next season. I think our pitching will be a strength, but worry about offense beyond DiCaprio, Proctor, Dunlap, Cruz and Chandler.

RE: 2017 Baseball Recruiting
Our team ERA was 5.10 last year and we lose our only two pitchers (with significant innings) whose ERA was under 4.00. I'm not as worried about the offense - Gneiting will get more PT in 2018 and he'll do fine. And then I think 1 or 2 of the freshmen besides Cruz (maybe Aviles and Cox?) will be immediate contributors.

+1. We lost our best pitchers from a team of poor pitching.

Our pitching was awful last year with a significantly number of innings going to guys getting their first real taste of D1 ball (Canterino, Moss, Jefferies, Garcia, Silber, Jefferies, Esquivel). I expect all of those guys to show improvement in 2018. Also, Garrett Gayle has impressed this Summer as a closer in the California League, with his heater regularly clocking in the 94 - 96 range. More importantly, Salinas and Parthasarathy are expected to be back and fully healthy, along with Pettite.

Which was missing 3 pitchers for all or most of the 2017 season upon which the team was counting.

And with all due respect, Dane was my favorite player on last year's squad, but aside from his first two starts and final couple appearances, Dane was nowhere near our second best pitcher. Canterino and Esquivel were better, though Zach's numbers nose-dived at the end after he hit the wall the final month of the season.

Gotta give him the proper pub/info too. Quinton Martin of Sweeey, a 5-11 OF/RHP (class of 2019).

Goes by Q Martin which is probably good so he won't be confused with us old-timers with Quinn Martin - a long-dead TV producer who had a ton of TV shows in the 1960's and 1970's (Barnaby Jones, Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco).

And Sweeny only has 2 Es.

I think Aviles can be an immediate contributor offensively, BUT where exactly is he going to play with DiCaprio at catcher and Dunlap our everyday DH (which he should be from the get-go)? I think he's too short to play 1B, no?

Another day, another 2019 commit.

Timothy Williamson, a LHP from Tomball Memorial.

+1000. He's really finding his groove. Now let's see him turnaround the pitching staff in 2018.

Williamson was listed at 6'3", 210 lbs as a Sophomore. Also plays 1B for Tomball Memorial.

The 2018/19 pitching classes look really intriguing. Wood, Content, Salgado, and Burgess (2018) and Kiddy, Martin, & Williamson (2019).

Some highly regarded arms in that group.

Love Wlliamson's size. Given another 2 years before he hits campus, he'll likely be something like 6'5" 225-230 lbs. Could be our first power pitching southpaw since Cingrani and CSC.

My son played baseball at Tomball Memorial in its 1st 3 years in existence, but Williamson would have been a 7th grader when Tomball Jr. graduated. I'll have to go to some of the Memorial games next spring to get a 1st hand look. Memorial put another lefty on a D1 roster (Sam Houston State Univ.) last year. Dominic Robinson's freshman season at Sam work out pretty well.
