Pavletich never came close to the hype/potential. Harris film shaky at best. Better to open 2 more spots and try to find 2 legit guys who can play.
Continued struggles to land legit MAC OL talent are concerning.

Dear Friends,
Who is Walter Harris III? He does not appear on the spring game roster. Was he a defensive or offensive player?

Did he ever show up to camp???
He was a JUCO OL whom some questioned his abilities by looking at his tape.

Dear steve,
Since he wasn't on the spring football game roster, I would assume that he was a no show. Thanks for letting me know what his position was, and from where he was coming.

Ken, he was supposed to be a late signed. Not around for spring. Was on the roster briefly last month I think.

Sal Velasquez gone as well......the Juco LB.
He and Pavletich were both medical 'retirements' I believe.

Nothing a staff can do about that, sad for both of them. Probably had some type of physical or maybe they just didn't want to risk injury.

Hm maybe. Harris probably showed up to camp either not in shape or saw there was more talent ahead of him than he realized. Back to Riverside CC where he will be recruited by another school. OR a clearinghouse issue came up at the last minute and needs to be taken care. Or he may have failed a test. All speculation on my part. We already discussed about Pavletich "retiring" for medical reasons. Hard to forecast that. I would agree that staff failed to land the one or two impact JUCO for the OL that we had hoped for. Not likely to get an impact OL this late in the game it will next year. Hopefully Harris III experience won't give Dakota Ramsey second thoughts on his verbal to EMU. Those of us who have watched his tape believe he can play at this level. Even Harris III was looked at by Grubb, what we have on the roster are Grubb recruits. I more willing to see if Meadows is a better recruiter and coach. We'll find out.
PS the open scholies for 2018 continue to climb. Losing these guys means true frosh will get a chance to play now and not redshirt depending on position.

At this level, it's scary to think a true freshman might play on the OL. If that happens, my Confidence in a back to back bowl season occurring just took a hit. Let's see where we are at after 3 games....go EMU!!

A Medical Retirement on the other hand, is more commonly known as a Medical Exemption, Medical Disqualification or Medical Non-Counter. Which was the situation XXXX found himself in after a brutal shoulder injury pushed him away from football. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll refer to a Medical Retirement as a Medical Exemption in this article.
A Medical Exemption is less common than a Medical Redshirt. This option allows those who suffer severe injuries and can no longer participate in collegiate athletics an opportunity to still have their education paid for. This allows the schools athletic director the option to continue paying for an injured athletes scholarship or providing them with financial aid. This is a huge protection plan for athletes who get injured. They can still receive the same amount of financial aid, despite suffering a incapacitating injury. A Medical Exemption is also beneficial for college programs, as they do not count towards their total scholarship limit. In XXX case, it allowed him to continue to pursue his education while Oregon was free to sign another student-athlete in his place.

The really scary part is that a true freshman would show up and immediately be better than all the guys we've recruited and tried to develop over the last 3-4 years. Nielsen a good example of just that, last year.
Similar to Nielsen, we may have gotten lucky with another foreign born player in Sidy Sow. Apparently he is the best OT on the roster.

That is a good and bad thing about sports: Unpredictability.
That is why we play the game and we play the season to see what will happen.
The Tigers played 4 games in Baltimore. Some were good or excellent and one was dreadful.

Who will follow foreign recruiting for us? Seems we are more excited about those prospects like Nielsen, Sidy, Valasti, etc. then our home grown recruits.

His 'highlights' are hilarious.........easily looks a 100lbs bigger than the competition.
Really tough to evaluate these guys. But hey, we may have struck lightning twice with Nielsen and Sow. Let's see how they do when the season starts.
They both obviously have the size and athleticism, just may take some time to perfect the techniques and nuances of the game at this much higher level.
Fingers crossed.
