Yes 3-5 Montana and 2-6 MSU really set the standard

No one begged NoDak to come to the Big Sky ? And EVERYONE was happy to see them go

RPI really just gives folks on message boards something to beat their chests about. The reality is all these low RPI one bid conferences aren't much different when it all boils down.

Stu is right in that BSC members need home games, and going 20 games guarantees everyone 10 home games. In the BSC's case, I think that easily trumps the RPI concerns. As a MBB Hornet season ticket holder, I would be fine with this as it guarantees that the programs worth seeing will always be on the slate (even though they have been on the schedule anyways because they need to get in front of CA recruits).

Last season the Big Sky had nine schools with an RPI of over 200. The school with the top RPI is leaving the conference after this season and you think it is a good idea to play a 20 game schedule? I just can't see that the opportunity to have ten league home games in this conference being something anyone wants to see.

RPI is too important to go to 20 games. No one in college basketball is doing it and then add 11 conference tournament games that do nothing for the RPI and you earn a #15 seed and a quick exit from the NCAA tournament. Just makes no sense.

How is this thread still going? The answer to the OP was established many posts ago: no one is going to replace them, any time soon. And Stu seems to have a source saying 20 game conf schedule, which works exactly with 11 members.

Everything else is just you guys breathing life into NoDak's latest and greatest realignment narrative, which serves only to confound people who don't know any better and stumble on the trail of his banter. He's a good poster, unless you get him started and breath life into him on one of his ill-formed theories involving UND, FBS, and other universities west of the Mississippi.

I implore you all ... give it/him/all of us a rest for a while, on that stuff.

So?

Weber or other top Big Sky bball programs that win the tourney essentially have that path anyway. They make it to March Madness, have their mid-day Thurs or Friday first round game, get their 15 seconds, and that's that. That's life in the low-majors.

RE: Who replaces North Dakota in BIG SKY in 2019?
If you could willy-nilly pick up existing conferences, smash them on the ground into pieces like a pane of glass, and then reassemble the pieces as you saw fit ..... then sure, some of what he says does make some sense. A conference that was formed in the 1960's between Gonzaga, EW, Idaho, Idaho St, Boise, Utah St, Montana/State, Wyoming, and the Dakotas, might have worked out very well. Though unfortunate that no major schools in Bismarck, Dickinson/Williston, Pierre, Rapid City, or Billings ...

But you can't. It isn't a thing. So his ideas are basically meaningless.

Why would the Idahos and Montanas join the Summit? Brand. State flagships are almost always sexier than most other schools. The idea has been simmering for generations of Montana and NoDak U presidents, but this board rejects it as ludicrous. When it happens, all the sudden they will think it a brilliant move.

The rest of the Big Sky, excepting Weber St, isn't academically or athletically worthy of the Montanas, Idaho, and EWU, and all their Presidents and fans know it.

1). No. Montana Presidents aren't and haven't pined for Dakotas

2). NAU is the athletic and academic equal or better of any public Slummitt or Big Sky school.

You are having conversations in your mind that don't exist. Must have frozen your brain up there

NAU should have pined for NMSU, and became permanent partners with them would have been a good strategic move. But instead NAU doesn't have any natural ally but SUU. GCU would be one, but NAU rejects them.

The Montanas know better than to look on NAU as a partner, but more as a leech.

Why would we pine for a school 8 hours away when there is one half of that? NMSU had/has no interest in FCS football.

Yes, NAU is such a leech - funds 25% more scholarships in all sports than the Montana schools, is actually good at other sports, continually finishes ahead of them (usually winning) the All-Sports Trophy, and has the only team National Championship in Big Sky history - and in one that 95% of DI schools compete in, not a niche sport like Hockey.

Plus more individual national championships than EWU, Montana and Montana State combined.

Yeah, leeches.

But go back to moving your goal posts, and your fantasies about when happened in your basement with non-existent people when you were a kid.

Yes and no - it is not an all-Division championship. Crucial difference

How are you getting that 25% figure? I see you have swimming and diving.

That comes from the last year comparable numbers were available - when the NCAA handed out bonus scholarship money based on scholarships awarded.

https://www.gannett-cdn.com/usatoday/edi...school.pdf

EWU - 145
Montana - 156
MSU - 166
NAU - 188

So not quite 25% for the Montana schools.

This comes from NAU offering more scholarships in all sports, not just football/basketball.

Montana in that year offered the 3rd fewest in the Big Sky, EWU the second fewest.

UND, Sac State and NAU offered the most.

Well, it might be prudent to only consider Big Sky sponsored sports ... and then just the sports that all the teams sponsor. Several, including NAU, don't sponsor softball and men's golf.

Montana St doesn't even friggin' sponsor women's soccer. Girls in Montana are too busy with ranching and rodeo, I guess.

Even if you took out the maximum schollies for Swimming (14) NAU still is higher than all others besides Sac and UND, and a similar math would like yield NAU leading the Big Sky is sports the Big Sky sponsors.

Given the altitude and location of world class ski resorts by Bozeman I think the fact they offer NCAA ski teams is more appropriate then playing soccer in the snow. And yes more HS girls in montana ski then play soccer and yes more fans go to the rodeo's then soccer matches as well.

Just another reason that MSU is not a fit in a flatlander conference in the midwest

What mens sport would you add if we added womens soccer? Besides I like the fact that we still have skiing.

Skiing is varsity for both genders at MSU, no need to add a men's sport to balance out women's soccer. So, it could simply just be like the other 10 schools and sponsor women's soccer at the varsity level, as Montana, Idaho, Idaho St, etc. do.

Montana St is unique among Big Sky schools because they have more Men enrolled than women 54% male - so they can't offer women's soccer without adding more men's sports.

Oh hogwash. No one is going to bring a title IX lawsuit against MSU because it has women's soccer, like the rest of the Big Sky schools.

That's just their excuse to be cheap.
