RE: 2017 Baseball Recruiting
Saw a tweet that said Roy Phillips (I believe a 6-2 RHP from Scranton, PA) has committed to Rice. He would be a senior if it's the same guy (the tweet came from the East Coast Sandhogs).

RE: 2017 Baseball Recruiting
Anyone know if we are showing recruits renderings of the Reckling upgrades like we supposedly did with the Patterson facility?
I saw Vandy is opening a $12 million dollar facility in the spring...

RE: 2017 Baseball Recruiting
Van Hook posted his recruit signing tweet this morning (animation of the war eagle in flight), but no mention yet of who that commit may be. Hopefully, a grad or JUCO transfer. (UT has signed a couple of those over the past week.)

I was going to ask if Clay's now recruiting for Auburn ... but when I checked the tweet in question, the animation is of an attacking/landing owl -- duh!! -- not an eagle.
Whew!

I don't know if this is whom Van Hook is referring to, but Dalton Wood (6-5 pitcher from Second Baptist) committed to Rice. He's another 2018 commit though. That class is shaping up nicely but we could still use help for the 2017 class.

The 2017 incoming class is quality, but limitted in numbers. We could really use a couple quality JUCO's (OF, 1B, 3B) who are good enough to start immediately.

You say they're quality but it's not like they are that highly regarded in the recruiting rankings or amongst scouts apparently since only 1 was drafted. I'm not sure where you get these opinions every year that our recruiting classes are so good when they've clearly been 6th or 7th best in the state.

When did I ever say last year's class was quality prior to their arrival? And the prior year's class had both DiCaprio and Proctor as borderline Top 200, but little else. The 2015 incoming class, however, WAS highly rated with 4 Top 200 prospects in Salinas, Gray, Brewer and Chandler, along with Myers, Otto, Grayson Lewis and Josh Pettitte.

RE: 2017 Baseball Recruiting
You repeatedly said Canterino and Garcia had elite stuff. To be fair you did mention control for Garcia which obviously turned out to be a huge issue. But here's an early season quote.
"Both Canterino and Garcia remind me of Duplantier his Freshman year-- obviously nasty and elite stuff, and can be dominant at times, but lack consistent command of their pitches."
I think we need more pitchers. We only have two signees thus far and we lost our two best pitchers from a staff which had over a 5.00 ERA last season.

I wish you'd be accurate with your quotes as i NEVER compared Garcia with Dup, and I'll be you on that one. The quote on Canterino was also not early in the year (when he didn't have control issues), but early in the second half of the season.
And, again, I never hyped Canterino or Silber or anyone else this past season (Garcia wasn't even on anyone's radar) during the recruitment process or before they arrived on campus. My previous comment was responding to Cr11Owl, who claimed I hyped up the recruiting classes each year. He wasn't talking about my comments during the season. And, BTW, I stand by my comments regarding Canterino-- I think he's going to be a stud for us the next two seasons. Let's not forget that he had not thrown in over 9 months (due to a Senior year arm injury) when he began Spring intrasquads.

February 22nd, 2017 (my birthday by the way). Unless I have the ability to edit your threads, you've lost your bet.
You said Walt has hyped "recruiting", i.e. players who have committed or signed with Rice, but have not yet gone through their first fall ball at Rice yet. His comment was hyping freshman, who had already gone through fall ball and spring ball, rather than "recruits". So you would need to find a Walt quote from before August 2016 to make your point regarding him hyping the 2016 recruiting class. It may be a fine point, but there is a difference between hyping recruits and hyping freshmen.
