His wife is from Harrisonburg and works for the university as well so I think there is more than just his salary to be concerned with for them. They raised their children in Harrisonburg. All of their friends are there. I think some of you forget these folks are people like you and me. Money is not the sole motivation for waking up every day. Quality of life is important too and Harrisonburg lends itself to a good quality of life.

My post was just highlighting one reason Mr. King acts the way he does. I don't begrudge anyone for making the best money they can. I don't begrudge anyone for living in a Harrisonburg.

I do take exception to self-important people who choose to look down on others with disdain. Inflated egos & everything that accompany them are obnoxious.

You're spot on. I went and heard Whit Babcock (VT AD) (JMU Grad) speak last night, it was a whole other world of professionalism and leadership.

I don't like this though. I prefer us the underdog and Coach Houston using that to stoke the coals. I guess this year it will be more of a "don't let them take what you've earned" kind of thing.

Steele claims on his cover he is the most accurate 19 years in a row. Now every magazine seems to toot their own horn, so perhaps we need to take all of them with a grain of salt.
He did point out that his projection of their ppg last year did end up only being a difference of 0.6. That's pretty accurate.

So if he thinks they'll be all pass and no run, plus allow 220+ yards run and pass each pretty evenly.... ugh oh. We could exploit what he calls a suspect defense. I hope we do.

If our defense from frisco and the playoffs show up, look out. It could be a fun game.

Wow. I didn't know that. He was the best AD ECU ever had. Definitely better that what we have now.

I'm guessing this is a subtle dig at JMU...

Well you guessed wrong. Not everything is about JMU. These links tell of our disgust with our AD every since he came to ECU. A quick google search will show more.

S/N Just did a google search on Compher. Did not realize he was a JMU grad. Doesn't change anything. He is still a sorry AD.

Hey, ours comes from Bridgewater College where he studied accounting. He worked as a public accountant for four years prior to being hired as an internal auditor at VA Tech. He loves a good bottle of wine. I'm not sure he knows what a phone is used for. It appears he's a bit tired and is simply hanging out until retirement. He's got a good gig and knows not to upset the boss.

There were some gaffes with hosting a playoff game..yeah...but what other big sins are there for CK? Style points? All things considered - gotta look at the job he and JMU have done on LIMITED budgets... shrinking state revenues, modest tuition increases, a paltry endowment...i'm starting to think he's done one hell of a job balancing it all out.

As much as we may criticize administrators, coaches, players, etc. I think most folks are venting that said person isn't performing up to certain standards or expectations, vs having a personal grudge. We do sometimes cross the line and it is unfortunate. But how nice a person is or how good their intentions are has very little to do with measuring performance and results.

Alger and Bourne absolutely have their strengths and everything they do may be (in their minds) the best for JMU, but I personally feel they are not the right leadership to take JMU to its full potential. My loyalty and passion are for JMU and while I may tolerate an under-performing bagger at the grocery store, I don't have much tolerance for it when it comes to my alma mater.

My quick little snap shot was Jeffy. I have never looked CK's resume.

By the way, your post didn't go over my head.

I don't mean to put down JB, because he's seemingly professional with me, though he will never talk specifics either in one-on-one or in front of an audience. The thing that stands out to me in watching Babcock versus JB is energy and enthusiasm for the job. People should not be in the exact same position with the exact same responsibilities for that long of a period unless they clearly demonstrate a desire to continue pushing. JB's body language says a lot about where he is with his job. As much energy and lust for what he was doing as our president, Uncle Ron was clearly slipping as his time was nearing it's end and everyone knew it was time to move on.

There is a reason Babcock is the AD at an ACC school, and why JB is an AD at a CAA school. The cream always rises to the top.

JB is a good AD who has had a good career and advanced JMU football. On the other side, his tenure has presided over a horrible period in men's JMU Bball. On our non-revenue side, JB has overseen a tremendous growth in both facilities and programs....while also dealing with the necessary cut of programs.

Finally, never forget that JB is/was hamstrung in our FBS talks. First by Linwood, then by timing, and finally by Alger.

I understand why you have that opinion of Charlie. He can be a tough customer. I also feel he is probably an introvert. Introverts are often misunderstood.

Charlie has to make a lot of tough decisions and those decisions can impact people's lives. It is pretty lonely at the top. Even an outgoing, back slapping, fun loving guy like Dr. Carrier had his detractors.

I have seen the father, friend and husband side of Charlie. He is a cancer survivor and was a good friend to a gentleman here in Richmond while that man was undergoing treatment for the same cancer Charlie had. I see Charlie as being very loyal to JMU, his family and friends. While not a people person, he is very enjoyable to speak to and can be quite open once he gets to know and trust you.

If you ever have the chance to spend time one on one with Charlie away from the office, you will come away impressed. I think your opinion of him would change as well.

Back to Pirate talk. Found these two posts on their boards. The conversation is about our streamers upon scoring.

"I think I hate them. I didn't really care before, but now that we are within a month....F*** JMU!!!"

and:

"Don't worry they should be out of them by halftime then you can just enjoy the 2nd half of the game."

Does anyone know of any other way to view the game other than ESPN3? Being outside the country, I cannot view the game via ESPN3.

Having been faced with the same situation many times overseas, I found that as game day draws closer there will be some sites using Virtual IP's who can get you the game. Will try to help you if needed as we get closer to Sep. 2nd.
