As for Memphis, he is way too hung up on rating stars. Tubby doesn't have to have high star guys like Calipari requires to be successful. Memphis could well be an addition by subtraction roster, though it is going to take a year or two to get better. But there are already some nice pieces, stars be damned.
Houston I simply still don't know enough about to make my own analysis.
I do agree with his indication that Tulsa could be the darkhorse this year.
WSU, Cincy, UCF, he made the easy calls. UConn should be pushing to the top again.
Since I have limited knowledge of USF, and Tulane this was at least somewhat helpful information. But I'm not sure there is any heat under Lebo's seat is there? Should be, of course, but from the musings I've read from ECU fans here doesn't seem like he has much to be concerned about from their current admn.

While this article didn't allude to Memphis's potential in the future, because they are only returning two contributors from last year's squad and are not bringing in any "consensus Top 100" talent with this year's recruits, I think it's fair to be harsh about their chances this year.

Is there a team in the Top 8 you could realistically see them jumping in the standings this year?

We brought in the #1 class in the AAC this year. The 7 or 8 of our new players are pretty much rated like most typical AAC starters. We have a long athletic team that's going to play tight defense. We have a favorable conference schedule lined up with playing the bottom three each twice.

It wouldn't surprise me if we end up 9-9, or 8-10 and come in 5th or 6th.

I don't think Norlander gave Jacob Evans enough love. The leading scorer doesn't even get a mention

mr i don't expect houston anywhere near the top 5, here's a snap shot of the team

Dude doesn't know what he is saying

Are they 03-zzz03-zzz03-zzz on Houston? 03-lmfao

It's a lazy write up. I am not concerned if he is sleeping on Houston. Not my team

We need to establish who our scorers are early. Preferably 3 out of the 4 from Jeremiah Martin, Kareem Brewton, Raynere Thornton, and Keyvon Davenport. Jamal Johnson and David Nickleberry can be X factors but I will hold off on expecting crazy things from freshmen

In the last ten years; Tubby has won one NCAA Tourney game, experienced two losing seasons, and won no more than 23 games in any one season. His past performance repeated at Memphis will not suffice. He will have to improve.

You forgot to mention it was it was at Texas Tech and Minnesota which are two tough places to win anything. He won 20+ games 5 of the 6 seasons at Minnesota which is in the big ten with lots of good basketball programs. I think Memphis is the best b-ball school and situation he has been in since Kentucky. Just give him a chance. I honestly wish he would have cleaned house last season as the rebuild would be farther along.

Good point, but playing in the Big 10 and Big 12 has benefits such as media exposure and the availability of conference games to prop up SOS, RPI, and other metrics used by the Selection Committee.

Regardless, he has an opportunity to improve upon his past performance and he must do it at Memphis. Losing records and failure to usually enter and sometimes win games in the NCAA Tourney (the acid test of performance) is unacceptable at Memphis.

It is the #1 class in the AAC based solely on volume and not quality. I'm sure some solid newcomers will emerge this year for Memphis and that they will hopefully be competing for NCAA bids again as soon as possible.

However, the truth remains that the teams Memphis is competing with for the "5th or 6th" spot are more experienced, deeper, and have equal or greater recruits to what Memphis will bring in this year.

With regards to a more favorable conference schedule, I don't expect you to be favorites to win any conference road games aside from USF (ECU and Tulane are toss-ups for me) and I think you will be lucky to win half of your conference home games.

7-11 is my best case scenario.

Your talent last season >>> Your cohesiveness this season

Why do you think that? Do you know how the 247 class calculator works?

247 only takes the top 4 into consideration for the rankings.

Top 4: 47.57 - #1 on it's own
Bottom 4: 39.15 - #7 on it's own

We play the majority of last season without a true center....

Unless you have inside access to our team this offseason than you don't really know what you are talking about. I will save this post for when the season roles around. I don't expect outsiders to really know anything anyway

I just realized that any of our starting 5 could unsurprisingly go off for 20+ against any competition and got really excited.

Thats a terrible Hype video.

Did nothing to evoke any kind of emotion. This is a good hype video IMO https://vimeo.com/192155378

Anyway, I never once said they wouldn't finish any where near the top 5. I think I might have put them at 6th or something. I think UCF, SMU, UC and WSU are better and that its very close between Temple, UCONN and Houston. The national media agrees with me.

We'll do a lot better than 10 wins this year.
10 is certainly not an expectation nor should it be.

with ECUs terrible OOC schedule I fully expect us to be close to if not above .500 at the end of the season This may be the worst schedule lebo has ever put together in his 8 years at ECU and it will completely fool the casual basketball fan from ECU although our RPI will be 200+ once again.

IMO Lebo will be extended after this season or after the 2018-2019 season because we do have some nice pieces and athletes that can steal a few games throughout the AAC conference slate and people will see that as "progress"

I personally think Memphis will be up and down all season. That they will have some games where they look like they can hang with anyone and then some games where they lose or almost lose to ECU or something.

Anytime you bring in 8 new guys your going to have some chemistry issues. Im not writing off Memphis yet but I do think its fair to expect a rough season just based on all the talent they lost and how much new talent is generally from program guys who will be good in a few years and not right away. They don't have a 4 or 5 star player to kind of anchor the class and be the leading scorer from jump.

I'll be hesitant about any team bringing in 7 or 8 new guys unless its UK or Duke.

I don't think Norlander gave Jacob Evans enough love. The leading scorer doesn't even get a mention

mr i don't expect houston anywhere near the top 5, here's a snap shot of the team

The national media agrees with me.

i thinks its the opposite on the videos...
that video showed nothing about why that specific cincy team was good just that you had history .. you could have made something like that for every UH basketball team since the 90's using phi slama film and it wouldnt have hyped up anything

the one for houston clearly pointed out why this specific team should be good and why you should be hyped for this years team and players and what they are capable off...also hype video are not supposed to be emotional...

(your kinda homerish, so imagine if it was flipped...rob gray with phi slama footage saying its our time vs a video of gary clark, jacob evans, Cumberland, Washington and broome just destroying their opponents and your coach saying this is the best team he's had in years...what would be more hyping)

and you definitely insinuated that houston wouldnt be anywhere near the top 5 ..you listed your top 5 and said houston doesnt have the talent to compete with those 5..you had us 6th *then* ..and that didnt even include temple which you have since said in a different thread probably has a better chance to finish higher than houston ...

I agree with another Memphis fan that while this team will probably end up with 18 wins...we as fans will enjoy this team more...they seem like 'Tubby guys' who will buy in and play solid team ball...last years team was a group of talented individuals who refused to come together and realize their greater potential...I guess that's what happens when KJ and Dedric are mad daddy didn't get his way.

RE: CBS Sports AAC Offseason Power Rankings
If any Memphis fan can explain how they will be fare better than either UConn, Houston, Temple, or SMU this season, please be my guest.

Because so far, all I'm really getting so far is "STOP DOUBTING OUR RECRUITING CLASS, WE'LL BE FINE, THIS LEAGUE IS A CAKE WALK, WE HAVE A CENTER FROM EGYPT WHO WILL BE THE NEXT ENES KANTER, WE'RE IMMUNE TO BAD SEASONS, WE'RE BIG BAD MEMPHIS."

I'm not buying UCF in the top group (nor is the national media). Actually the national media only has the top group as WSU and UC with 3-7 interchangeable.
