(Perhaps I had one too many and posted in the wrong thread...but you get the gist...and there are way too many random summer threads with similar titles). 03-razz

They just might own the place. Part of the old money cotton carnival crowd. The Boll Weevils are mischief makers who dress in those costumes, drink a ton of beer and drive around the city in a green fire truck wreaking havoc during Carnival... and it's all legal.

There is not a single thing better about Houston than Dallas. Not one.

I love Dallas but this is simply not true. The Trinity "river" in Dallas has more dead bodies than fish. DISD is agruably the worst school district in the nation. HISD is miles ahead of DISD. Go to a Dallas City Hall meeting and tell me how well the city is governed. As I'm posting this it's likely the city of Dallas is demolishing ANOTHER historical building. New is not always better but Dallas doesn't get that. Houston does. Houston's downtown is years ahead of downtown Dallas. For all the improvements, downtown Dallas is still a ghost town after 5pm, and very dangerous. Downtown Houston has much more nightlife and people. Much safer.

Have you been to Dallas in 10 years? Apparently not. Urban dallas is miles ahead of Houston. Not close. And HISD and DISD are both junk. Dallas is running circles around Houston.

I'm sitting at a desk in downtown Dallas as I type this, and I live just NE of downtown. So, I'm fairly familiar with Dallas, and Houston. Please tell me how Dallas is running circles around Houston??

Well in every way imaginable. Its better looking, has better urban neighborhoods (too many to list) downtown is rocking, better mass transit and easier traffic, great young persons city and is hip fashionable and a great entrepreneur town. Dallas suburbs suck but all suburbs suck. Houston is just ok - has great BBQ, average mexican food, humidity and no zoning. The market tells the story - Dallas added 120k jobs last year. Houston added 10k

I like most of the southern cities - all have great character. NOLA is the best place to spend a weekend in the country if you know where to go. Memphis fun and authentic, Nashville is great also - and Atlanta is fun also. Orlando is pretty dull when i was there - Tampa more fun. Miami is fun for a weekend.

When was the last time you've been to downtown Houston?

Downtown Dallas is only booming if you include the Uptown Market with it. Downtown Dallas' office market is underpeforming still, especially when compared to Houston and Austin.

Driving or flying? Yeah traffic is some of the worst on the planet. Centennial Park is nice base though. Walking distance to CNN, World of Coke, Aquarium and CFB HOF. And a short Uber or Lyft ride to cool neigjborhoods.

Driving. We're staying at Holiday Inn Express by the GSU campus. Should make us almost walking distance to CNN and world of coke.

We were able to get Sat for 95 bucks at the hotel. I wish they would announce the game time so I'll know if I need to get Fri night as well (if it's a noon game)

I'm hoping it's an evening game (7pm). Get up early Sat morning, drive the 5 hours to ATL and check in a little after noon. Watch the game Sat evening, and crash after that. Check out Sun by 11 and go hit up CNN and Coke (may only get to do one) before driving home.

that's the plan at least.

If it's anything but a 7 pm start they are doing it all wrong. You definitely picked q good base of operations. Lots to do and a great springboard to other areas nearby.

Sorry - i grossly underestimated. it was 14,000 jobs in Houston. About a zillion in Dallas. The market doesn't lie. Demand to be in Dallas is like 10X greater. If you want great salt water fishing you don't stay in texas anyway - you head to Cabo.
