Texas State for Charlotte? ... Barbecue and Doughnuts!
It's the pits of the offseason, so why not discuss a little hypothetical realignment?
I was in Charlotte a few days ago to spend some time with family, and on the way back, just for the heck of it, I drove through Charlotte's campus. I have to admit I was surprised at how nice it was. It definitely lacks a sense of history since it clearly was built in relatively recent years on either wooded land or former farmland, but it looked nice. Anyway, I can't get over how stupid it is that App flies out to to Texas for conference games, as Charlotte does from the same airport, but they don't play each either.
Meanwhile, Texas State is pretty isolated in SBC, but is surrounded by G5 schools within just a few hours.
Would it be possible to have a simple trade of the two schools?
Charlotte would have App, Coastal, and the Georgia schools in one division. Troy would get to join USA in the western division (and help to balance out the divisions competitively). Texas State would get to be among the other Texas schools, and UAB would get to return to the east, where it used to be.
There are other threads for larger scale realignemnt, but how about a simple trade?

God No! If App wants to play them get your crackerjack AD to dial them up with an offer they can't refuse.

We already have a deal with UNCC. I think you are missing the point. In time the G5 will need to make more geographical sense. I think it's inevitable, unless our revenues dramatically increase.

Charlotte is the only reasonably easy travel destination for ODU fans. I live in the western part of the state so it's a little better for me but if you were coming from Norfolk:
Charlotte: 5+ hours
Huntington: 7+ hours
Murfreesboro: 10+ hours
Birmingham: 11 hours
Bowling Green, KY: 11+ hours

No I understand your point...to have nearby rivals that promote increased interest from fans and students. My point is we already have that to a great extent through our divisional setup and if we did what you propose then you create an island out of UTA. I mean are you only concerned with football here because I'm pretty sure App plays a whole lot more sports.
Now if we picked up Charlotte and So. Miss I could live with that.

How about we give you all four TX schools and in exchange you take both FL schools?

Charlotte: 5+ hours
Huntington: 7+ hours
Murfreesboro: 10+ hours
Birmingham: 11 hours
Bowling Green, KY: 11+ hours
And this is why ODU should be in a southeastern G5 league with those schools plus App, Ga. So., Ga. St., and probably the F_U's. But my point is that such a one-for-one trade would make the most sense for the most schools in both leagues, especially for the two involved in the trade. A larger scale realignment is for other threads.
Respect for at least responding with an explanation. ODU definitely would stand something to lose in this trade.

Tell ya what, how about Y'all just give us Charlotte and Southern Miss? That way the whole G5 is at 12 for football. C-USA will have 2 less mouths to feed and we get more regional.
