Odd to see since your QB situation is still up for grabs.

I agree there is a BIG ? for us at QB. We have some starters that are returning on both sides of the ball that will give ODU, maybe one of the more experienced and certainly the best skilled players ODU has put on the field in their short FBS tenure. However at the QB position we will sink or swim with what I feel will ultimately be the maturity, growth and leadership of our NEW, and yet to play one down for the Monarch's JC transfer Jordan Hoy. WE do have a stable of good QB that our currently on the roster. Blake LaRussa, who played a limited role last year as Washington's backup. A new Red Shirt Freshman #9 Drayton Arnold who had an impressive coming out party for our spring game. In fact Bleacher Report list Arnold as one of the 10 most impressive Quarterbacks Turning Heads in 2017 College Football Spring Games. Link http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2704783 (The redshirt freshman played for both sides in the scrimmage, hitting his target 21 times in 28 tries for 245 yards and five scores. Arnold is competing with Blake LaRussa, who finished 8-of-9 for 140 yards and one touchdown. In all likelihood, this battle won't be resolved until the latter stages of fall camp),

But, IMO our new JC transfer Jordan Hoy out of Fullerton JC appears to have the skills (passing on the run, an ability to scramble and pick up yards, and he even seems to have a knack to WIN for every team he has played for in the past.

A few of his HS highlights it clearly appears he is very effective, in fact was outstanding in this one game in his Senior year... Highlights.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t1dfpjNPtU

He also had a very strong Freshman season at Fullerton. Hoy is 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Rockwall, Texas. While at Fullerton JC the one year he completed 246 of 391 passes for 3,434 yards and a school-record 37 touchdowns against just six interceptions last fall. He also rushed for 712 yards and nine touchdowns and led the team in passing and rushing. He was named the 2016 Southern California junior college offensive player of the year. Hoy will have 3 years of eligibility left. It will be interesting to see what happens when they all start to compete and duke it out on the practice field. I feel that we have a few good options but this will not be settled till the end of the Aug practices, right before the start of the 2017 season.

I also know that HS stats, JC stats only give us hope, but we know that we still have a big ? for the starting QB. I am very cautious when looking at the unproven with Hoy. But even with that said, I feel very good because of his JC stats and the fact that he was a leader and effective as a productive STARTER for that program.

His HS highlights are very impressive..... and this is worth looking at to see his ability to stay on his feet and allude the on coming defenders. I also like the fact that he is very protective of the ball and made good decisions with very few interceptions.

More highlights from his HS Sr. year.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2hp2dykol4

Love the play Hoy makes at 2:02 in this tape where he starts a TD run and an opposing player "Little #3" looks to tackle him down...Hoy strong arms him and SCORE...LOL.

Like someone else said, the more I look at a few of his earlier tapes from HS, I really like his ability to scramble and stay on his feet. I'm really Looking forward to watching him play for Old Dominion.

I assume this Orlando guy is basing his assessment on our defensive line and our running game, both of which should be fairly good this year. Secondary is improving but still needs some polish. QB is largely unknown. Special Teams will probably be streaky, but hopefully with more consistency on XPs and field goals. Punts might be good too. I have a feeling we might pad the record with wins over down-year teams again

I'd be surprised if he has researched to that detail. For the non powers, he is probably just looking at schedule/results from last year and upcoming schedule.

Whoo Hoo!

I believe one more to go..... 64 selected 66 remain to be ranked.

O.T., they say that memory is the first thing to go, but math must be a close second.

Cal was the 65th team picked. (I actually used my fingers and toes and the few remaining hairs on my head to count.)

We are in the top 65. We will more than likely be tomorrow's selection, but I'll take it.

We're poised to have a better team than last season, will likely receive preseason Top 25 votes, and we're at #68. But UCF, who went 6-7 and lost a lot of key players, is rated higher.

Hmm.

Lost a lot of key DEFENSIVE players... On a team known (previously) for defensive depth.

And yet, taking year two under an offensive system led by the OC that took Oregon to it's highest peak. An offensive system that loses... Well nobody really.

We'll be fine.

RE: Orlando Sentinel Countdown
Our QB situation isn't a big unknown. If you listened to Harry Minium and Ron Whitcomb during the Spring practices, you know who they think will be on the top of that depth chart. Harry was calling Jordan Hoy the heir apparent and Whitcomb just had a big grin on his face.

I'm sure Matt had a chat with either Harry or one of the W's. It's the only reason I think ODU hasn't been ranked yet. I think ODU will ascend a few more spots. Like I said in a previous post, I'm going for the ride. This is great for ODU.

Let's hope we see one more CUSA member before we see the Big Blue.

Didn't Ark St crush you guys 40 - 7 and you lost to a 5-7 Geo. Southern team. You started off fine but those two loses hurt a lot, especially considering Ark State lost to an FCS team. There are just two preseason Top 25 polls for 2017 that rank any G5 program(s). Sporting News.... has USF at #22 & the AP has them #19. The Bleacher Report has Boise State at #24. After looking at 4 or 5 preseason polls I see NO TROY, Sorry. However the OS rankings means absolutely nothing at this stage of the game. Relax, this is great to pass the time in the off season, but....

The AP and Coaches polls will be releasing their preseason rankings before the season starts. Neither have been released for 2017. I don't care about Bleacher Report, Athlon, or Sporting News polls... those aren't publicly recognized polls. And if you'll look back, I said we would have Top 25 votes, not a Top 25 ranking.

Besides, your AP Poll link is last year's final rankings, not preseason 2017 rankings.

They also took Clemson down to the wire. Beat an App State team that handled ODU 80 to 7 in their two match-ups and beat USM while Mullins was still playing. The result of the Arkansas State team was largely a result of the nature of the App State game.

ODU should not be ranked higher than a Troy team that has virtually all of their production returning.

AGGIE, MY PICKS

1. Which conference will be the first to have all teams selected? MAC
I agree I think the MAC will have both Miami (Ohio),PICKED # 69 & Toledo before any other G5 conference is filled in.
ONLY ONE TO GO

2. Which conference will be the last to have all teams selected? ACC ...AAC ?
Yep....I agree AAC, I thing USF and Houston will be the last TWO (2) selected from the five conferences I think NAVY will need to have a good replacement for their QB they lost to have a great year..

3. Which team will be next to be selected? UCF
Maybe Tulsa PICKED #67 , they need a QB just like ODU. It might be us.... IMO I think UCF will be really good this year. Last year they only lost to Temple by a point and almost beat Houston They had a fantastic recruiting class for 2017, the #1 class in the AAC. They picked up one of the top freshman running backs in the country with another RB that was a 4 star. The also snagged a local QB from Norview Darriel Mack out of Norfolk. He had an outstanding Sr. year. He may red shirt. The 2017 class had 20 3 stars and a 4 star gave them a monster recruiting class.. BINGO

4 Which team will be last to be selected? Navy
USF AAC - They are returning almost every one from last years team that went 10 -3. Their only defeat in the AAC was to Temple. They also were very competitive against Florida St..

5. What will be the G5 order of the average ranks after all are selected?
AAC, C-USA, Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt
Perfect.... AAC, C-USA, Mountain West, MAC..................SBC.

6. Does anybody care? Not really.
LOL, Care maybe not, but enjoy the off season chatter...YES. Thanks for all the work AGGIE..

I Of the remaining G5 Schools, I think @Wyoming, *Toledo or #Old Dominion may be up in the next few picks. I hope it is Wyoming. The MWC will be intriguing for the final order. San Diego State had a unbelievable 2016 going 11-3 ending the year with a win over Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl and RANKED # 25 in the final poll. They lose a lot of starters from last years team but keep their QB and a strong group from their defensive unit. Than if you look or compare Boise State, the MWC may finish ahead of CUSA slightly, all will certainly depend on the pick first of ODU and Wyoming. Than next SDSU against LA Tech and finally the placement of WKU compared to Boise. After a closer review, I do think the MWC will edge out ahead of CUSA. We will see in just a few weeks.

*Toledo
will need to replenish a strong offensive squad from last year. They return their QB but have lost some very key players from a team that did a lot of scoring (averaged about 40 points per game). They played App state really strong last year in the Camellia Bowl losing 31 -28. (Logan Woodside, Toledo's QB is OUTSTANDING
Woodside headlined Toledo’s explosive offense last season and torching opposing defenses for 4,129 yards and 45 scores. He tossed at least two touchdowns in every game and finished fourth nationally by completing 69.1 percent of his throws). He would be the reason for them to be picked higher, if Matt feels this offsets their other loses.

@ Wyoming will be stealer on defense maybe one of the best in the country, especially at the G5 ranks. However, they will be in need of some offensive weapons as they only return 6 players on the offensive side of the ball not including their QB.

# ODU, first off ODU will need to replace a QB that knew how to move the chains. The defense will be good but will need to replace some key loses from last year. ODU did rank in the top 25 in many defense categories #4 in turn over margin, # 15 fumble recoveries and in the top 50 for overall defense last year. The big question mark will remain the QB position. The new JC transfer Jordan Hoy out of Fullerton JC was outstanding in HS... Highlights.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t1dfpjNPtU He also had a very strong Freshman season at Fullerton. A 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Rockwall, Texas, Hoy completed 246 of 391 passes for 3,434 yards and a school-record 37 touchdowns against just six interceptions last fall. He also rushed for 712 yards and nine touchdowns and led the team in passing and rushing. He was named the 2016 Southern California junior college offensive player of the year. Will have 3 years of eligibility left.

Or minus a half?

Anyhow we have moved from lower half to top half. Moving out of the realm of tallest midget to those of average height.
