How is this helping raise money for football and bringing revenue in? It's free so just not sure. Why not sell tickets And use it to sell tickets to game next day. I hope they use the spotlight to promote the heck out of the program and future games in big time way. My fear is lots of Sam fans who care less about UAB football just get free tickets and we do t get revenue or new supporters. Oh well, I'm sure they know what they are doing. i am very excited and it Will be a great show and great way to start to an awesome weekend!

I had the same thought. Having the concert immediately after the game in Legion Field would boost attendance even more, make us money, and expose people to our product.

But I could also see the argument that we should have a strong crowd regardless and we don't need the narrative out there that the only reason we had a big crowd was because Sam Hunt was performing.

It could go either way.

And maybe Sam Hunt had sm say in the matter.

Sam is the biggest name associated with UAB right now at the height of his career and in the middle of a tour. Doubtful that anyone Approached him with the idea of a free concert. The free part came from his end probably.

Having Hunt perform at or after a game gives the detractors a chance to say attendance was because of him rather than football. The attendance needs to be the result of the game not who performed at it to be legitimate.

Or the reason for a Friday night concert could just be the fact that he has a concert scheduled in Lexington, KY on that Saturday.

As I recall, the attendance at the Reuben Studdard game was about 40,000 and caught the city completely by surprise. No police traffic control was supplied and traffic piled up at the Arkadelphia exit for miles. That UAB lost that game lost a great promotional opportunity.

There's a saying in my line of work: "What you win them with is what you keep them with."

You can't build a following of people who love the football team by putting on concerts every week.

This is a good season kickoff event (might even be a good annual thing to do with different artists) that can be used to garner attention locally for the program. I'd have ticket sales set up, I'd have Sam rallying the folks, urging them to attend, maybe even give away some luxury suite tickets, and other merch.

Definitely should have lots of people set up to sell tickets, both single game (Sept 2) and season tickets. Maybe have something set up to take donations also. Cash Jar and ability to take credit cards. People were great about throwing $2-5 in a jar at the 1st sons of uab game.. multiply that by % the number attending the concert and could generate a fair amount. (People might not want to spend for a ticket or a shirt but a few dollars is easy)

I'm fairly certain the last time he performed at UAB was at half-time of a UAB Men's Basketball game...don't recall him being sacked during it.
