RE: Carey Hot Seat?
What is an overachieving season for him? I guess for Carey that would be not getting blown out in a bowl game, if we happen to make one.

But an extension for a 7-9 win season. No, Carey isn't going to get hired away.

RE: Carey Hot Seat?
I am still willing to give Carey the benefit of the doubt. Who in the MAC has not had a bad year in the last decade? Were it not for a few close losses and a surprisingly tough OOC schedule (Wyoming? Western IL?) , the Huskies could have snuck in to a bowl game last year. I am not trying to go all Hillary here and just whine and make excuses for last year. I am just saying that just a little improvement could take the '17 Huskies to Detroit again.

A year from now, if we are talking about how the Huskies still have not been to a bowl game since '15, then I might be ready to grab a pitch fork.

I think the '16 season may have been hacked by the Russians.

Exactly. Yelling is fine as long as you don't spend your career doing it.

It does seem like he mostly yells, I don't see much of anything else.

I don't know that he yells ALL the time. I am sure he pats players on the back at times. Of course. But I do know that I have seen him yell in a player's face at times for what amounts to the player's physical inability. And that is not helpful. Jim Valvano taught me, sometimes you just say nothing, or pat the kid on the back and simply appreciate his effort. If the other guy is just better, faster, stronger, and your kid is busting his a$$ to compete, but he gets beaten-- thank the kid for his effort. appreciate him. And ask him to keep at it. You yelling at him is just completely unhelpful. Has Coach Carey done that (unhelpful yelling)? Hmmm, I think I may have seen that.

I agree. His recruiting has been great. Maybe it's the Lynch factor, but you don't want to lose coaches while you're finding good talent. If we find that Lynch is a great recruiter and coach than we can transition to Lynch by paying him Fleck money.

RE: Carey Hot Seat?
extensions at the MAC level are not about stopping coaches from getting hired away--MAC schools don't have THAT kind of P5 money (see how that worked in row the boat land)...it is about RECRUITING...if you cannot tell a kid you will be there when he graduates, you lose considerable leverage....competing schools love to use the fact that a coach only has a year or two left on his contract against that coach/school....nothing worse for a program than a lame duck coach...nobody wants to come into uncertainty.

Western Illinois is a tough one, does you believe? Leather in that neck. Very tough, strappin' leather. Don't schedule them Neck leathers. Very scary. Look out!

Make them Huskies great again, Mr. I loves Hillary - no I doesn't. Never whine, don't complain Mr. Leatherneck is very scary.

Lots of close losses them Huskies certainly did have. Of course, they never had a close victory. Skiddley diddly do. Evens out, Sir Huskie Jon, doesn't you think? Sometimes you barely wins, sometimes you barely loses. Dem apples taste a bit like football, doesn't you know?

Huskie Stadium football will be like watching gladiators at the Coliseum this year. Losing coach gets the axe.

Good one. Instead of shaking hands at the end the coaches get out the clubs.

7 wins and he's safe. 6 is dicey. 5 or less he's gone.

Yes, he came to NIU via Florida Tech

His father, Mike, coached at NIU for a long time.

Was it Dan or a brother that played for a couple of years at NIU before injuries took their toll.

That was his brother Kevin. He also played at Sycamore H.S

Kevin also was an Asst Coach at Florida Tech for one year.

RE: Carey Hot Seat?
I was calling for Carey to be fired A LOT last season. The downward trend under his leadership is real. I think it might be a good thing there's some pressure on him now... hopefully he will coach with some urgency and the team will respond better.

Idk, we'll see. Lets BEAT BOSTON COLLEGE!
